Sounds more like your average inferiority nutcase. Can't face life, dreams of the proverbial 15 minutes of fame (and a lifetime of infamy). Picked the easy way out to vent his impotent rage against everybody except himself. Coward through and through. I would have written him off in the same way if not for the manifest. He claims to be a part of an organization, he draws up clear political goals for that organization, he goes at length to justify his ideology. If it indeed expresses his views, he sees himself a part of a struggle in which he is neither the centerpiece nor the most important factor. In fact, he sees himself more or less as an expendable soldier. Or we could just read between the lines:

Incorrect. Self employed upper middle class and extremely educated. the 32 year old man with no formal education beyond high school, lives with his mother (didn't move out til he were 30... and then moved back home) and had a business go bankrupt is... what? perhaps your definitions is different than ours. you not need formal education to be educated, but access to a search engine or a book o' quotations is no substitute for traditional university rigour. so far we see no evidence that the slaughterer o' norwegian children is educated. as for being self-employed... well, am guessing that may be technical correct... on some level. is "amateur bomb maker" a profession? nevertheless, we will concede that it is too early to dismiss the izod bedecked momma's boy as insane. is far too convenient to label a person insane just 'cause they does something violent and stoopid... and pen a rambling manifesto. for the time being, Gromnir is gonna stick with Pathetic and Monstrous as our labels dujour. HA! Good Fun! ps damn. we forgot to include Cowardly. purposefully target children? yeah, that is cowardice. Pathetic. Monstrous. Cowardly. Here's the manifest so you can judge his educational level, or lack of it for yourself. His knowledge of the topics at hand does not seem to be based on quotations, but on lengthy research and I recognize many of the books on political theory he mentions. In that set of topics, I can say he has a good grasp of the material, regardless of the conclusions he draws from it. http://www.kevinislaughter.com/wp-content/...ndependence.pdf Cowardly? I'm not so sure. He did ask, and expect the death penalty for himself. This could be hypocrisy since he's not going to get it in Norway, but it does not suggest he picked the targets for lack of "harder" ones but because what he did would cause the maximum amount of pain. As someone who sees himself a "martyr", and has in advance "given up his life" he really could have struck anywhere and at anyone - therefore his choice of targets speaks to intent, not courage.

As you can guess I'm hooked on "gamer" mice. This is usually a term that all by itself adds 30$ to the price of your mouse for a shiny led and a bit more plastic. They're only really relevant (to a degree) in competitive FPS, and even there a dedicated player will pwn your Razer equipped ass 20:0 with a 5$ mouse, without breaking a sweat. However for us who like our bling bling, without further ado: Razer Diamondback 3G 50$ (at the time of purchase) I've had this mouse for more than a year now. I won't go into technical specs as these can be found anywhere. The mouse is ambidexterous with a really low profile - which means its suited for a claw/fingertip grip. Which also means that if you have large hands, and like to palm your mice, its pretty damn uncomfortable. The side buttons are integrated in a sort of see saw switch made of rubber. Its unwieldy and easy to press inadvertly. Being ambidexterous, the symmetrical buttons on the other side are all but impossible to use for the right hand user and vice versa. Therefore the mouse really has two semi-good buttons apart from the usual three+scroll. The white, see-through rubber through which the led shines has a tendency to flake and obviously doesn't respond well to sweaty hands. The sensor is very responsive and precise and the software works without a hitch. Visually the mouse looks very nice. The mouse comes with a 2 year guarantee which is strange given that logitech mice usually come with 3 and cost 30-100% less. Verdict: average product, especially compared to the: Logitech MX518 28$ at the time of purchase This is one of my two new mice. It costs less than the diamondback but uses the exact same sensor. Its only suited for right hand users, very comfortable (featuring the characteristic curves of MX mice) and best used with a palm grip. Its heavy enough not to move inadvertently when clicking but light enough to glide well on a good surface. It has buttons in front and behind the scroll wheel for switching between the dpi settings 400/800/1600, two side/thumb back-forward (in browser) buttons and one small one below the scroll.. for something. This mouse is preffered by Serbian lan cafes where it takes a ton of abuse from rabid CS, WOW, DotA players. That says a lot. Its cheap for what it offers, and comes with a 3 year guarantee. Its software has a horrible reputation but thankfully the buttons work properly by default and it doesn't need to be installed. Using it for CS I've noticed a remarkable increase of accuracy that I attribute to increased control the grip gives me (ergonomics). Verdict: best gaming mouse in its class, for the price (but only for right handed users) Razer Orochi 90$ at time of purchase Yeah, I was stupid enough to buy another razer mouse. This thing, advertised as a mobile gaming mouse is a fraud on all counts. It has two modes of work: Bluetooth and Wired Bluetooth sets its DPI max to 2000. On paper that sounds good but two things drag it down, one horribly so. The mouse has an auto sleep function that kicks in at about 2 SECONDS of inactivity. As you move it out of sleep it jerks the pointer as it reastablishes the connection. This is a complete ****up for FPS games, where you do not what your pointer flying around the screen as you're aiming for somebody's 2 pixel sized head. Also: the mouse uses 2 standard batteries to operate in bluetooth mode which make it too heavy for precise movements. Wired mode works fine. The mouse is precise and responsive like any gamer quality wired mouse. The 4000 DPI max is interesting but usable only if in game settings allow you to fine tune sensitivity, as it makes the mouse too sensitive. The ergonomics are ambidextrous which has the same problems as the Diamondback, on top of which the mouse is very small. Only if you have the hands of a 5 year old will this mouse be comfortable for hours of gaming. Its reduced size make it easy to inadvertently move the mouse as you're clicking the buttons. The quality of the plastic does not leave the impression of a high end product. The software must be downloaded from the website and is fine. Verdict: overall this is a waste of money. Its not a gaming mouse by any stretch, except in wired mode which makes it equal to many cheaper mice in functionality.

Berivik (if that's the way his name is spelled) is the result of multiculturalist dogma that doesn't allow an inch for the expression of other ideas and concerns and ignores the fact that there are many people who do not agree with it. They feel disenfranchised and alienated which, inevitably results in choosing methods outside of traditional politics to make their views known. Upon skimming through the manifest I can say for certain that the man was in no way insane, given the meticulous level of planning, education etc. the document shows. What he was is, is very, very angry - to the point of perceiving the entire political structure of Norway as traitorous and from there its just a short step to justifying to himself what he did. This is not a "lone psycho" thing, this is a classic act of pre-planned politically motivated terrorism. He is the first, but only a fool would think that this is the end of it.

I wasn't.. I sense you're being protective.

Yet you would not disagree that the problem is expanding, instead of at least - stagnating? How would decriminalization help, to at least push the issue into acceptable bounds? @Gorgon: The hard drugs and soft drugs categorization is arbitrary and dubious, as categorizations often are. You can be heavily addicted to marijuana and likewise, use cocaine once in a blue moon. The potential to heavy addiction is inherent in all drugs, although psychedelics are commonly considered to not be truly addictive due to the intensity of the experience.
-
I know what you are getting at, but drugs are criminalized here, so has that really addressed the overall problem? Again, I'm very much against drugs, including pot. But pot is something you can grow in your backyard, so criminalizing it is simply ineffective. So what's your solution? Having them in every 24/7 shop next to regular cigarettes? Or freebie promo packages passed along with your daily bread in the supermarket? I'm not saying its likely to happen, but if it becomes legal it could well be on its way to becoming a legal business and you can bet that corporate sharks will find a way to profit of it in the worst way imaginable. I see how that might profit a few individuals, but how the overall good is served I honestly don't. After all cigarettes are pure addictive poison, and for a long while their marketing and propaganda was such that practically everyone smoked. @Shryke I agree with everything you said, and drugs are certainly a part of the problem, not the only problem. Yet I still fail to see what good legalization will be for the "ordinary" citizen. A compromise is only good if both sides get something, but I see only the users profiting from this.
-
Did that, in your opinion address the overall problem or was it just a solution that worked for her (and others like her)?

You sound like a brainwashed kid to me. In fact, you sound like me when I was 14. I was wrong of course, and Gorgon is far and away correct. And what Gorgon is referring to is akin to a Bill of Rights. I'm 24 and you sound like a person trying to justify and spread a habit most people question with good reason. Especially in regards to psychedelics in which you withheld information while uncritically praising their supposed qualities. That is propaganda for juveniles. Unfortunately for you I had a particular interest in that type of drug so I extensively read up on the subject on everything from DMT to Mescaline. The only conclusion a fair and sane person can deduce upon reading reports is that because of completely unforeseen consequences that entire group of drugs can give rise to, they should not be used or recommended to other people.

Apparently I'm the only one who reads Gene Wolfe because one of my favorite bookstores has most of his stuff on discount. Bought "Strange Travelers", short story collection.

Educating her in tech-goodness would be like..hm, her trying to educate me in wool-types and knitting styles. It's possible, not really interesting to my point of view, and would take a long time, with the bare minimum sticking in the mind... I mean, the last time she got a laptop.. she walked along the countertop at the store looking at them.. and going "oh, the graphs on this are prettier then the graphs on that one, will this do what I want it to?" So what were you saying your sister looked like?
-
Hearing you talk Gorgon it turns out their individual rights to shoot up, snort or otherwise imbibe whatever drugs they want and make life hell for everyone else, directly (their families, friends, bystanders) or indirectly (drug related and funded crime, disease, accidents etc.) somehow deserve to be protected and expanded yet ordinary people who just want that out of their streets should somehow shut up and suck it up. That's not how it works. If we let every minority do what the hell it liked, we might as well legalize serial killers, terrorists, paedophilia lovers etc. Cos they're doing it in their leisure time and all. Your rights extend only as far as the borders of mine, and what the majority wants is exactly the guiding principle of democracy.
-
I support an all around crackdown on drugs starting with deconstruction of drug propaganda in today's culture of hedonism down to harsh punishments for participants in drug trade. The latter will be completely ineffective without the former.

You should stop picking girls behind the Home Depot. Touche Very rarely. And never more than two glasses of whatever is being drunk. Considering the way people usually drink alcohol - with getting drunk in mind, the better answer to your question would be "no". @Wals Well then, we can just shoot a few and work camps for the rest, how about that? I suggest the celebrities be shot first. @Malcador There's no such thing as innocence you know, only varying degrees of guilt
-
Look its mostly a matter of public perception. When it was viewed as a fringe thing that only hopeless people did, that was more or less exactly as it was. Now, through the music and film industries and a lot of propaganda its become a semi-acceptable thing. There are always people who will try drugs, and the trick is not to expect a total end to drug use - but to move it back into something that is viewed negatively and judged harshly so that the total number of users drops back into acceptable statistics. If it becomes okay to be high on pot all the time, tomorrow they'll ask the same for cocaine and after that heroin and god knows what else. On a personal note I'm tired of dating girls only to have them drop that "I think getting high/pot/cocaine is really cool" at the second date. ****ing retards.
-
Annoying, isn't it? Its because they know its wrong and unacceptable but if more people accept it they can feel better about themselves. My solution: junkies in work camps, dealers and anyone in league with them on the gallows. You shoot enough people and you can push drugs from a semi-mainstream thing to a fringe thing, where it ought to be. @Krezack You're also not telling him that psychedelics can trigger a latent psychosis and permanently damage a certain number of predisposed but previously healthy individuals and that its effects are unpredictable and heavily dependent on external factors and can be a several hour long psychological nightmare for the user - which may also leave permanent scars. If you're going to do junkie agit-prop you're going to have to do better than that.

You're more frustrated than usual.

There you go seeing conspiracies again. Strictly speaking, when I say the economy is "sinking" I'm talking about the lower quality of life for the general population. The rich tend to stay that way. The average Joe in the US doesn't live as well as he should considering how wealthy the country is. I could go at length about the changes in the US economy since the "new deal" and up until the shift to "Reganism" (and Mrs. Thatchers political program) and how I think it presents a gradual shift from a relatively healthy society into a corrupt oligarchy. The end result was practically the elimination of state from the economy through the process of privatization - giving everything into the hands of a select few extremely rich individuals/corporations and cracking down on anything welfare oriented under the guise of "cutting costs" resulted in the rise of extreme inequality and crippling the state's ability to perform its functions. The ultimate profits of this process went into the pockets of the elite, and this is still an ongoing process. But the point is that political decisions made it so, not the "invisible hand of the market".

On a related note, the real threat IMO that comes from the Jihadists and the religious fundamentalism that's sweeping the muslim world is spiritual and ideological. With day to day attacks on Christianity by fanatically secular governments (like the recent banning of the crucifixion in Italian schools) a major hole is being dug in the "hearts and minds" of people and Islam and other ideologies are poised to fill it. If there is indeed a war, you'll lose it from the inside or not at all.
-
Moral relativism doesn't really apply to this case, we are fighting Jihadists. These men believe with all of their hatred that we are the enemy, they go to superhuman lengths to cause harm, all because of their extremists views. There is no reconcile here, we are may or may not be the good guys. But we sure are the sane ones. Yeah, the bearded men an ocean away whose best weapons are dirty AK's are really a threat to the cut lawns of US suburbia, surrounded by several million US troops. What are they going to do, swim the ocean and hip shoot you to death? Please. Far be it from me to deny the US the rights to pursue its own interests, but it just so happens it sees its interests more or less everywhere these days. Even regular americans are taking a toll having to finance and get killed in interventions that only furthers a select few in the US itself, while the US economy inexplicably sinks even though its still the richest country in the world. Its their voice, which I'm pretty sure would have vetoed every intervention in the last two decades that needs to be heard and have a say in what their elite is doing.
