  1. Having played both games, you're right. ok, what the hell IS an RPG?
  2. Well, isn't it a staple of the RPG genre? Taking your character through a story while progressively making him more powerful. Using your new skills to overcome new obstacles and uncovering more of the game. Hmm now that I think again, Legend of Zelda does have these aspects to the game. I've always wanted to try table top RPGs, but that kinda thing isn't popular in Korea.
  3. I've played this game. What was it... Oh, right. Metal Gear Solid 2. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What? All I heard was big breasted drow chicks.
  4. Zelda really isn't an RPG or trying to be one anymore than Metroid or Metal Gear. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> hm, yeah now that I think about it. It isn't. There really is no leveling up or increasing your stats.
  5. Star Wars : Knights of the Old Republic 2 : Weapons of Mass Destruction Star Wars : Knights of the Old Republic 2 : The Axis of Evil Star Wars : Knights of the Old Republic 2 : Nuclear They sound cool right? I hate politics.
  6. Kyle Katarn says something like, "Remember powers are not inherently good or evil. Its how you use them." in Jedi Academy. It might be true, but powers that enable you to turn your opponent into a smoldering mass of carbon...or whatever your biology is based off of, probably entails some kind of dark satisfaction..which, I think, would lead to the darkside. Maybe the jedi can use these abilities but refrain from doing so. The most powerful and cheesiest lightside power of all time? Force Absorb...it basically protects you against all force powers and replenishes your own. It comes down to lightsaber skill after that.
  7. 1. GTA in my book is fun. There are a lot of things to do. I have GTA3 for PC and every now and again I load it up and go on a rampage, making little challenges for myself like seeing how long I can escape arrest(or death) from the cops in one of those clunky vans....all the while killing innocent passerbys. Not as fun as KotOR! 2. Fable I've been wanting to play ever since I heard of it. Growing up and becoming a hero with tales of your exploits spreading throughout the lands! Cool. The final product based on just reviews from numerous sites doesn't seem to live up to the hype, but I might pick it up one of these days. I'll have to buy me an Xbox or more likely an XBox2 though...not really on my high priority list. 3. Ahh..the Legend of Zelda. I used to love those japanese style RPGs. Games like Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger and Link to the Past still give me warm feelings. I think Baldur's Gate and Torment and Fallout kinda spoiled me though. The overall atmosphere and storyline of those games just blew me away. I've tried to the recent FF games but I dunno, something about them just doesn't do it for me anymore....sigh. Someone recommend something good! 4 and 5. Halo....There was a time when I used to chuckle gleefully as I blew up enemies into little chunks of meat. I still enjoy the odd FPS now and again. I like RPGs better now though. Halo for PC was a cool game, though I don't know why people are so hyper about it. 6. Metroid!!! I didn't understand this game at first. The first Metroid I mean. I was used to jumping from platform to platform whilst snacking on mushrooms. Obviously my intellect at the time couldn't comprehend shooting open doors, finding new pathways and exploring, something I quickly remedied and have enjoyed ever since! I love the Metroid series(Mostly because Samus is hot..even in the suit). I'm thinking of picking up a GCN when I move to the States this Oct. Prices are down right? 7. I didn't really understand Metal Gear 1 the first time I played to as well. I wanted to kill the enemies not avoid them! Needless to say I gave up on Metal Gear until I picked up Metal Gear Solid in College. I blew away the semester playing that game and trying to pass all the VR missions. Actually I corrupted all my close friends too. First it was Starcraft in B-net then it was seeing who could get the best times on the VR missions. Haven't played MGS2 but I'm looking forward too...even though the story is supposedly really weird and you don't play as Snake. GRRR... MGS 3 looks cool though. 8. Resident Evil..bleh, I never really liked it. I rented RE:2 from a friend once because the cutscenes looked crazy ass scary. The game was boring for me though. Some people like it though.....I can't believe this is before KotOR. 9. I loved Half Life! Looking forward to HL2.....but not as much as KotOR 10. Ahh...in my opinion one of the finest games ever. This should be at number one!
  8. Those similarities are startling. I haven't played NWN since they only have Korean versions here in Korea...and something about D&D and the Korean language really don't mix well. Just like Kungfu movies dubbed in English are pretty weird...funny but weird. I'll probably pick up a copy when I get to the States this October. WOO! Did Maugrim have an annoying laugh too?
  9. HEHE the love talk WAS excrutiatingly painful to hear. Anakin : Whenever I'm with you I can't breathe! (or something to that effect) Padme : If you follow your thoughts to their logical conclusion you will find they lead us to a place we cannot go! (yeeeah....you've been a diplomat too long if you start talking like this) Padme : I truly deeply love you(I thought Savage Garden would start singing Truly Madly Deeply in the background and actually cringed) But hey, I still love the movies, especially the lightsaber battles! Somtimes I make lightsaber humming and buzzing noises in the subways and people start to move away from me.(I Live in Korea)
  10. Tut Tut Nur Ab. You need not be so abrasive in your opinions. People just have different ways on looking at the SW world. Personally I think the all the confusion stems from the discrepancies from the movies and EU. You never really see Vader or Palpy unleash massive force storms or destroy entire suns in the movies, it would probably act as an overkill if moviegoers actually did witness such titanic events on the silverscreen. Novels and comics are different because they let you use your imagination more and as such the destruction of suns and the the awesome force storms are so much more acceptable. Plus comics and novels have room for more elaboration and plots and twists and turns and inklings into the potential powers of both Jedi and Sith. Its all good for me. Personally I think Lucas underplayed the abilites of the Jedi in the prequels. Especially the massive battle on Geonosis. I mean the Jedi who fought there didn't fight like the Jedi I imagined. Jedi are linked through the force right? Then the should have acted as a whole instead of each individual Jedi hacking away at battle droids. Here's how I imagined it : After Mace Windu avoids the flamethrow attack by Jango Fett and drops down onto the Arena Floor all the while masterfully deflecting any blaster bolts aimed at him, he quickly gestures to the other Jedi, calling to them and rallying them through the Force. The other Jedi, instead of brandishing their lightsabers and separating to fight individual targets(which is suicidal if flanked, which they were, not to mention highly inefficient), rally towards Master Windu centering on him in the arena. The Jedi rush through the initial wave of battle droids towards Master Windu quickening their paces through the force, striking down droids as they pass and covering each other's flanks and rear. Such is their speed that most of the droid's fire end up hitting other droids deployed to their left and right. The Jedi's precision, speed and mastery of the force makes the audience squirm in their seats and we are treated to a great overview shot of the Jedi emerging and rushing to the center of the arena, lightsaber and force trails from speed enhancements leaving a faint illuminating path behind them. The shot pans down from above and centers once again on Master Windu joined by Obi Wan and Anakin, as the other Jedi take flanking positions near them not letting a single blaster bolt through, their flanks secured by other Jedi working in perfect cohesion through the Force. Master Windu looks over to Master Kenobi and says, "This is where our lightsaber formations come into play." Obi-Wan smiles as he sees Master Windu's formation within his mind. We see all the other Jedi nodding their heads as they slowly and purposefully give ground to the droid army. We can see a light blue glow surround the Jedi striketeam as they continue to concentrate on the Force, their individual powers strenghtened as the force amplifies through them. More and more battle droids surround the Jedi, their relentless salvo seemingly driving the Jedi back. The Trade Federation Viceroy looks on in triumph, but Dooku seems ill at ease. All of the sudden the center of the Jedi formation explodes in a bright blue light and Jedi stream out in many directions. From above we can see that the formation resembles a five pointed star, the Jedi using Force speed to cut a swath through the battle droid formations, pivot and travel back towards the center where Master Windu has formed the heart of the formation, a simple circle, at once providing flanking cover for returning jedi and as well obscuring the movements within the center where the Jedi regroup and charge back out at slighty different angles all the while keeping the formation intact. The droids are in disarray, they cannot move with the precision of the Jedi and more droids are destroyed by their own crossfire than by the end of a lightsaber. Soon nothing is left but smoldering droid parts as the Jedi slowly revolve their masterful formation. The Trade Federation Viceroy looks on in disbelief, and Dooku has a grudging respect in his eyes. The battle is soon over and the Jedi quickly take defensive positions around Master Windu, not even looking tired, for the force flows through them. Dooku addresses Windu, "Very Impressive old friend. I believed that ultimate strength lies within the individual, but today you have proven me wrong." To which Windu answers, "You're wrong about a great many things friend." Dooku quickly departs from the scene muttering, 'Impressive, but futile against an entire army!" The Jedi quickly rush outside in pursuit where they encounter the endless waves of droids. The Jedi muster a defense quickly forming into a half moon formation ideal for defense. ObiWan yells, "We can't win against an entire army!" Anakin answers and he looks to the sky, "Wrong again Master! Look!" And then Yoda lands with the clone army and the movie pretty much plays out the same. Sorry for the off topic and long post... I've been discontent with that part in the movie ever since I saw it. Now I have it off me chest. Happy waiting!
  11. here are some good Rpgs for the PC Anachronox Divine Divinity Beyond Divinity Yes, they're pretty old(except for maybe Beyond Divinity), but great games nevertheless.
  12. Umm.. as soon as you turn off your saber, there will nothing holding back the other lightsber pointed at your head, neck ,torso
  13. What Darque said Its only a for 2 months, I don't really see what the big deal is. Don't get me wrong, I'm a little dissapointed too, but its nothing really to cry about. Just take a deep breath, forget about Revan and Sion and KoTOR2 for awhile, and pretty soon it'll be here. Why don't we all play Torment again! Awesome game however, whenever you play it.
  14. Of course Jedi Master Splinter was actually a human until the that fateful day he was caught in a devastating force storm along with a rat and 4 turtles
  15. I wonder why they didn't put Force Pull in. Its fun to yank the weapons from the enemy's feeble grasp...or would that make the game too easy? Since I heard KoTOR 2 will have unarmed combat, I'm looking forward to powers such as force punch, force kick, force palm attack..who knows
  16. yes, Galen I was referring to that stance. In the hands of an accomplished user, a very effective and deadly stance.
  17. Revan's style is a stance difficult to master. When I was learning Korean style sword fighting, one of my teachers showed me that style. It has several advantages over the traditional two handed grip with the sword held in front of you. In the traditional stance there are two main attacks, the first is the over head slash/diagonal overhead slash where you bring your sword up and down at your opponent's head or shoulder. This in itself is difficult since if your opponent is holding his sword out in front of him you risk impaling yourself, so most of the time you begin with a fast and sharp hit against your opponent's sword then quickly do the vertical slash. The other main attack is knocking the opponent's sword aside then quickly lunging with a stab. Also a very risky move. Its difficult to do a horizontal slash or upwards diagonal slash from the traditional position because because you have to bring your arms out to your side which leaves huge openings for your opponent. The style Revan used however is different. Picture the stance in your head. From that position, it is difficult for the opponent to knock your sword away from you. Since it is close to your body. It is difficult for the opponent to predict your next move. Imagine your opponent steps in with a quick overhead vertical or diagonal slash. From Revan's position he can either stab quickly multiple times at the throat of the opponent(People who have played Mitsuguri on Soul Caliber 2 and 3 can picture it) or he can bring his lightsaber down then upwards into a upwards vertical/diagonal slash which is difficult to avoid. Even if your opponent is super-fast with the overhead slash, you are in a better position to block. Lets say your opponent attacks with a stab, since Revan's position leaves some room for the opponent to move in. He can quickly sidestep and deliver a devastating downwards vertical slash from the flank, or better yet sidestep and deliver a upwards slash cutting of the opponent's hand. Revan's position, by not having the lightsaber in front of him, taunts and tempts the opponent to move in and attack. If the opponent move in with a horizontal slash or diagonal upwards slash, Revan can simply block by bringing his lightsaber down and up in his own vertical upwards slash. Vertical upward slashes block both horizontal attacks and vertical upwards slashes and given the right amount of force and twists of your wrists, can knock your opponents blade away giving you a chance to attack. Revan's stance offers smooth transitions into stabs, vertical downward and upward slashes. It also seemingly leaves maneavering room for your opponent in front of you, enticing them to move forward and attack. The drawback is that you must be incredibly fast and precise with your movements. Its a stance that leaves no real room for errors. More so with a lightsaber.
  18. Interesting Ideas all. My personal take is that the Masked Sith Guy won't be any of the characters from KoTOR 1 that have multiple fates depending on how you played the game. Thats why I don't think The MSG is Bastila or Dustil...(Why Dustil?) It would be too much work for the developers to implement the conflicting storylines and we all know making games have budgets and deadlines. The MSG is most likely a new character with his own personal story. It would be more interesting that way. He is most likely related to Atris in someway. You know how promo wallpapers have characters that people speculate a lot on?Then after we play the game and take another look at it we go, "Ahh thats who they are!" For example Baldur's Gate 2 expansion pack wallpaper had the main villain on it. Yet, before the game was released everyone was speculating on who she was. Maybe Imoen? I think the wallpapers tell us more than we know, we just have't played the game so we can't be sure.
  19. I agree with not every enemy getting scaled. It was getting pretty ridiculous in Throne of Bhaal, where every henchmen you went up against had awesome weaponry. The level cap for the original BG2 was 17 or 18, and Bioware went overboard with the expansion pack when they set the limit to 40. (I still love Bioware though. I get wet dreams everytime I think of them......wait, what?!) The problem with achieving too high a level is that even if the enemies scale with you, the game becomes too easy. Not to mention it'll get cheesy with every dark apprentice you come across wielding Force Storm and Kill. In ToB with my party at level 35-40 almost every battle was easy, too easy, even the last one. What we need are smarter enemies, though I don't know how viable that'll be in a RPG. In ToB David Gaider later released a small add-on called Ascension which considerably made the game more challenging without resorting to cheesy tactics. Since KoTOR utilizes a 3D engine, enemies should use the terrain to their advantage, or like BlackBishop suggested, small contingents of troops might be led by a captain giving them orders. Or how about dark side lightsaber users moving in sword formations? They would recieve bonuses to attack, defense and force powers while in the formation, but a crafty character might be able to detect a weak link and appropriately exploit it leaving the enemy in disarray and confusion.
  20. While I do hope that Obsidian is making an original character rather than rely on the comics, this theory is interesting. I don't think however that King Ommin is Darth Sion. King Ommin was more like Palpatine in his endeavors, secretive, manipulative and shadowy. Sion feels more like an active character. He is held together by pure darkside hatred. I think that he would relentlessly hunt down his enemies taking them down using all his anger and hate. We do know that our character from KoTOR 2 will have several encounters with him. He is probably given the task of hunting you down, or has his own agenda for seeing you permanently dead. Besides the King Ommin storyline is basically over and I doubt the Devs at Obsidian would resurrect him for KoTOR 2 However if there is a relationship with the comics and Sion, I think a character that appears briefly anf then dies just as quickly will be a better candidate for Sion. His name is Warb Null, an armored darkside user that was like the hand of King Ommin. He was in charge of assaulting Jedi Master Arca and his apprentices Ulic, Cay and Tott Doneeta when they were trying to remove the remains of Freedon Nadd and Queen Amanoa. He suceeded in taking the sarcophgi from Arca. He then was beheaded by Ulic Qel-Droma in their second encounter. This is a character with absolutely no back story, armored from head to toe so that his appearance is a mystery and also sustained major physical abuse at the hands of a Jedi. Any takers? Attached is a pic of him
  21. I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I would like more battle animations especially a different set of animations when a single character is facing off against multiple opponents. There should be more dodging and defensive manuevers when one of your characters is in a lightsaber duel with three dark jedi. Right now its basically just your character interacting with the enemy targeted while the other baddies just stand there making their attack animations. This would be especially cool for the guardian class, since they work most closely with the lightsaber. I guess for this to work, the programmers would have to allow your character to target a group of enemies rather than a single opponent. Imagine your Jedi Guardian feinting in one direction then simultaneously dodging and kicking a high horizontal lightsaber slash from a second enemy then quickly striking the third enemy when he/she moves in to hit you in the seemingly defenseless opening you left while feinting. I've been reading too many Chinese martial arts novels. Hmm I suppose problems might arise when you want to use flurry or Power attack or Critical strike I guess it could work like this : You choose flurry as a combat action : You quickly make a series of lightning fast attacks at all your opponents driving them back You choose power attack as a combat action : You concentrate on defeating one enemy with powerful strikes while heavily hitting away the blows from others. You choose critical strike as a combat option : You dodge and dance in a masterful rapier style of attack, using thrusting attacks to hit the vital organs of the enemy. Yah...it would take way too much time to implement I suppose, especially when the animations would have to differ from single, dual and dual-bladed lightsabers One can wish though. I imagine all those attacks in my head while I play anyway.
  22. Good idea. I'm not really familiar with D20 Star Wars, but being able to choose how the force uniquely reacts to your character would be fun. Consulars would could extra force points Sentinals....err.....they could get bonuses to force powers that reveal or affect the state of the enmey Guardians would get bonuses to force powers that enchance physical characteristics.
  23. I'm didn't like the whole cortosis thing. I can understand it from a game play perspective but it still seems a little forced. Isn't cortosis supposed to be extremely rare and therefore incredibly expensive? Every sword that you pick up has a cortosis weave. Cortosis armor...they did that in Jedi Knight 2 didn't they? I don't think cortosis makes you impervious to lightsaber damage. It just repels the energy from the lightsaber more effectively, but I remember that it can eventually be cut through with a lightsaber(I think from a EU SW novel where Luke and Mara Jade have to cut through some rocks with cortosis deposits)
  24. Male, of course. Probably because I'm male meself. Revan...just doesn't have a female ring to it. Almost all past conquerers, war leaders and tyrants were, as someone else mentioned, male. The vast majority of women who did come into supreme power, like the empresses of the various Chinese Dynasties did so through catching the eye of the supreme guy then systematically and secretly killing off all the competition. I think the latter is much more scarier though.
