Can we go around without holding guns.
Azure79 replied to ninjitsubob's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Will there be hand to hand using guns like Equilibrium? That would be cool. -
Favorite RTS and why do you like it
Azure79 replied to tubgoatstugboats's topic in Computer and Console
Most definitely Starcraft. Mostly because I still play a few games when now and again, and its still fun. I never invested myself in ladder play, but playing 3v3 games with friends and random people over Bnet was incredibly fun, especially when drunk/high. -
I've always liked those areas where things aren't always as they seem. Of course you can usually see it coming a mile away, but I like the spooky malicious atmosphere. Looking forward to Haven.

I agree, the game looks fun to play, the the aesthetic reminds me of KoTOR a little bit. I think it'll be fun to pair up with people and do missions. It'll be interesting to see what happens when you make decisions other people don't like and vice-versa.

Looks cool. Hope it comes in light, medium and heavy variants.

Monk looks cool. I never liked playing the Assassin, because in higher difficulty levels, I seemed to die faster than I could get off meaningful combos. I'm sure there were cookie cutter builds out there that made playing a melee Assassin viable, but I never really looked. One button clicking pulling off more complicated moves sounds good to me.

I don't understand why you think its horrible. You can quickly move from enemy to enemy by using the left analog stick. It is pretty intuitive and the system picks up really well which enemies you are trying to hit. I think its much better than a lock on system. You can counterattack at a moments notice whether you're throwing a punch, kick or kneeling down to finish a downed opponent. This ensures that the combat stays fluid and you can link attack and defense accordingly. The transition animations when counterattacking or moving from enemy to enemy are great and really makes Batman seem like the expert fighter that he is. Its basically one button attack, another button counterattack system, simple, but I think it works really well. Are you disappointed because there isn't a specialized moveset using different button combinations like Ninja Gaiden/DMC/God of War? I love me some Ninja Gaiden and God of War, but giving Batman a set of exaggerated moves would have detracted from the more realistic and gritty atmosphere of the game I think.

Very fun. Sometimes while I'm playing the demo I'll have Batman stand still and just viciously counterattack and goon stupid enough to throw a punch or kick. It seems like something Batman would do. I hope you can 'disappear' from boss characters as well. I think it would be really fun to run circles around combat oriented bosses like Bane and Killer Croc, getting the jump on them from the shadows.

There is a widescreen mod for the game, though I haven't tried it out. Just google 'KOTOR widescreen' and you should be able to find it. There is one for K1 and K2.

Yeah, the demo is awesome. Everything seems to be spot on from controls, atmosphere, music, voice acting. I think this will be a 1st day buy for me. I've heard some people say that the combat is too easy, but hopefully that will be just for the grunts and other bosses and tougher goons will provide more of a challenge. But still this game makes you feel like Batman that's for sure.

My favorite game would have to be the BG series. I think I've replayed those games more than any other. Except for Starcraft, but that's usually multiplayer with friends.

I am playing through The Darkness, a console FPS. I normally dislike console FPS games just because I find aiming incredibly cumbersome. This game fortunately had enough powers and helpful auto-aiming to make playing through it less annoying. You play as Jackie Estacado, who wields the powers of Darkness. He is a mob hitman with his Uncle Paulie as the Don. Well, things turn a little sour between them and the game is about revenge and discovering why you have the powers of Darkness. FPS games don't interest me as much because I usually find their story elements lacking and the gameplay elements repetitive. There is only so much running and shooting you can do before every FPS starts to feel like the same game in different settings. But The Darkness has a pretty engaging story that made me want to keep playing. The voice acting was good along with the graphics and animation. Instead of playing a soldier type who single-handedly stops an entire alien army and saves humanity, you're just a mob hitman with a very personal vendetta (and scary powers). The story was more personal and thus more engaging. It didn't have the set pieces and intensity of Killzone 2, but it was a much more engaging game. I stopped playing Killzone 2 after the 2nd mission since it seemed like your run of the mill FPS, despite having awesome production values.

North Korea: Great Country, or Greatest Country?
Azure79 replied to lord of flies's topic in Way Off-Topic
I'll just say, for a pretty impartial and factual account of contemporary Korean history, Don Oberdofer's book, The Two Koreas is a good read. It gives some background on the international environment at the time, such as the Sino-Soviet split, normalizations between China, South Korea and the United States and other factor's that contributed to North Korea's policies. It covers everything from Post WW2 up until the summit between former South Korean President Kim Dae Jung and Kim Jong Il. -
Molyneux wants Fable III to be a game about touching children
Azure79 replied to H's topic in Computer and Console
There's already a Fable 3 coming out? I thought the premise of Fable was awesome, but was dissapointed with the final product. It was fun for what it was, but I never managed to finish it. Never played Fable 2 so don't have an opinion on that. -
Bioware/Bethesda appreciation thread
Azure79 replied to WILL THE ALMIGHTY's topic in Computer and Console
I can't complain. I think I've played every Bioware game except shattered steel and always enjoyed them. As for Bethesda, I've tried to like their games, but I never managed to finish one except Fallout 3. -
Looks like they have some new charge ability in the game where you can bum rush enemies and knock them over. We can all just send him to his death over and over.
-
Why do you think I posted it! No, not that clever. I'm thinking along the lines of Bad. You know psychotic biotic? All I see is a huge forehead and boobs. Boobs

Mmm, Starcraft goodness. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Kotor3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion Part 26
Azure79 replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
As much as I doubt K3 will ever be made, here are some things that I would like to see. No new PC. We already have Exile and Revan. Adding another 'chosen one' would just dilute the whole story. That said, let the player role play both Revan and the Exile. Eventually when they meet, just have the player choose both their responses either when talking to NPCs or when Revan and Exile speak with each other. That might seem weird, but I'm sure some talented designer/writer could make it work. There is the level problem, but how about this. You start the game with Revan having infiltrated the True Sith world. In order to hide his true identity and powers, he has to adopt a new class, keeping his original Jedi talents suppressed. He could start off as a Sith soldier/bounty hunter/whatever, and then move on to Sith Marauder/Master/etc as the game progresses, learning dark side powers. This would be a new level 1-20 game. I also think the game should mainly focus on Revan in the Sith World rather than splitting the game into a Revan portion and Exile portion. There are several reasons for this, the main one being that I think the Exile's story is mostly completed. She has pretty much accomplished what she set out to do, and the final leg of her journey is to help/confront Revan. Plus I think Revan infiltrating the Sith forces will present much more interesting gameplay/story opportunities. If you played a lightside Revan, how far are you willing to take your subterfuge without falling to the darkside as you try and keep your true motives a secret? If you played a darkside Revan, how much fun would it be to seduce other Sith Lords, double cross them, betray them and all that evil stuff. I really liked the Korriban sequence in K1 where you could play the Sith off each other and then betray them all in the end. The main antagonist should definitely be a powerful Sith Lord, not maniacally evil like Malak, or mysteriously evil like Nihilus or pathetically evil like Sion. Like Revan the antagonist should represent power, should be secure in that power (unlike Malak) and shouldn't be afraid to use it. The game should make you wonder if the antagonist is really oblivious to your sabotage efforts or is just stringing you along for a far more evil purpose. The final battle should be like the movies where there is a massive space battle, a smaller but critical land battle and powerful personal battle where your light/dark side ideals and skill are pushed to their limit. You should have the option of splitting up your followers to take part in the land or space battles. Also the Mandalorions jumping out of hyperspace at a critical moment with Canderous in the lead in a Basilisk War Droid bellowing a war cry is a must. Just my take. -
Best Star Wars Game (other than KotOR)
Azure79 replied to Nihilus5078's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Hmm, probably a toss between the Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight and Jedi Knight 2 for me. -
What game is that? Looks interesting.

Graphical arguments aside, I'm more interested in how an assassin character will play. It would be really boring if they build up this Thane character into this invisible, deadly assassin, then have him follow Shepard around like any other soldier, taking cover and shooting at things, with maybe a few talents like 'assassination' with the sniper rifle. I hope that they add in some gameplay elements that can showcase what Thane can do. Perhaps the ability to reach places unreachable to other characters, either through climbing or slinking through the shadows or crawling into vents etc. I want the option if I have Thane in my party for Shepard to cause a major explosive distraction while Thane assassinates high priority targets up close, since that seems to be his style.

How did you fare in that battle? I found it pretty hard and had to resort to buying up all the high level spell scrolls I could and then basically missile stormed everything to death.
-
Yeah, I tried the demo as well and it was very fun. The voice acting is top notch and the atmosphere is great. The game is a little simple, but I don't think that will necessarily detract. I thought the combat, stealth and strategy aspects were all really well put together. Plus hanging upside down from a gargoyle statue and then pouncing on an unsuspecting baddie was cool. I can't wait to explore the entire Asylum complex and fight the famous Batman villains.
