Boys will be boys on the internet (<- sarcasm)

No Volo, that is not what I am saying But I will say I think white, heterosexual males are the least most discriminated group in the world. I don't feel the need to defend this demographic because generally its unnecessary. Normally we aren't the targets of hate groups or religious persecution, like the way gay people are targeted by some religious organisations I think what you mean to say is that they are, outside of some countries in Africa, rarely discriminated against for being white. Discriminated against for being male? Could argue that being sent to another country to wage a war you had no interest in, or facing execution is something that happens to males a lot more than it does to females, but eh. In most of our countries that was a few generations ago, so let's let that slide. People are often more than just white and male though, and they can certainly be discriminated against those other things which they also are. Because they have red hair, because they are short, because they have asthma and can't run very fast, because they like to play with trains, because they have an accent, because they are jewish, because they are catholic ... or protestant ... or atheist .... Ad infinitum. So... Saying that white males are never discriminated against is just not very helpful. I would have thought my perspective would be obvious but its clear I need to explain further Firstly I never said "white, males are never discriminated against ". I said they are the least discriminated demographic in the world So answer a few questions for me, How many anti-white supremacist groups do you know about ? Please list some groups that exist that explicitly state in there manifesto that the objectives are to ensure the survival of the black race or for that matter any other race apart from the white race and they are fundamentally opposed to white males ? Even Al-Qaeda will accept white males who follow there religious doctrines Please list the countries that have outlawed heterosexual relationship and where the death penalty exists for anyone engaging in heterosexual relationships. This is the reality that gay people face in certain countries Please list the countries where men can't work or cant drive ? I can list countries where women have no rights whatsoever Please tell me what countries in the world ban marriage between a man a women and refuse to recognise these types of unions, these are the realities many gay people face who want to get married I can continue to list examples but I think my point should be clear. When I say "white, heterosexual males are the least discriminated group in the world" I'm talking about the big picture in the world. Not just the gaming industry. And I stand by my point that its an absurd suggestion that white males are generally the victims of discrimination and bigotry We are not, we have it easy. I like you, Bruce, I really do. But sometimes I think you just deliberately miss the point. My point is, saying that white males have it easy is nonsense considering all the other factors involved. Very few people are only defined by being white and male. -
Oh, that sucks. Are you going to have to wear one of these masks? I hope not, I always wonder how they can possibly be an improvement... Can't imagine having to sleep with one of those on.

I am looking forward to this moment. Come, Overlords! Come! The spacecraft was delayed. We have to wait a few more months. Warning: mildly offensive lyrics:

Yes, the subject. IF you want to say that a welfare state such as they exist in Western-Europe is socialist (which I don't really think constitutes socialism, but okay, let's accept that for debate's sake - I would personally say they have merely been influenced by ideas from socialist theory) then I don't see how you can say that socialism and capitalism are opposite ends of a spectrum. At best you can say that capitalism in these countries is limited, but it's like there is a single country in the world where there really exists such a thing as pure capitalism. If you would allow pure capitalism to reign, in the end you'd just replace the all powerful government you'd get in communism with an all powerful megacorp that'd you'd get in a purely capitalist world. The welfare state is as much socialist as it is capitalist, if you want to talk in such terms. The choice "Capitalism or Socialism" is much too simplistic. It's making things out to be black and white when there are many shades of grey. Between the different countries in Europe there are quite vast differences in how far they lean to either doing things collectively or putting the burden on the individual, and between allowing people choice or trying to protect people from themselves.

FINAL FACT: Bruce Lee is dead. Chuck Norris isn't. You know what they say. Only the good die young...

Don't worry about Sharp_one, he's not squeeky clean himself either. Although to be honest, the things he says are not for trolling. Not sure if that's really a plus, though.

At the risk of sounding like a troll....are you guys trolls?
JadedWolf replied to Longknife's topic in Way Off-Topic
I see that once again the good name of trolls is being tarnished in this thread. They may be a bit slower than the rest of us, but that is no excuse for this abuse. Say it with me. Trolls are people too. -

P.S. On a more serious note, there isn't a single proper socialist country in the entirety of Western Europe. Yes, they don't have unbridled capitalism, but which country really does in practice - not even the U.S.A. can say that. And yes, they have public healthcare, unemployment insurance, pension benefits and all that good stuff, but that's not being socialist; that's called being civilized. If you really want to look at a country that wants to put socialism into practice, don't look at Scandinavia, look at Venezuela. Although even what they're doing there is a perversion of socialism. Socialism is a Utopian dream with a fatal flaw: it depends on the selflessness of people.

Capitalism vs Communism eh? I thought that was already sorted. The Soviet Union collapsed. Russia and other states have embraced capitalism, and see how well that worked out for them. Russia is no longer a propaganda filled dictatorship that enviously eyes other people's borders. ... Oh, snap.

From the audio tapes, you can see how she could be seen as a nuisance to the police officers. It would probably have been best if she had shown her ID right away. If we believe her side of the story though, we can understand if not completely excuse her behaviour. (Her side of the story being they were just kissing, rather than the article's suggestion they were having full blown sex). Then again, things could be as the article suggests, and in that case it's rather reprehensible to try to get out of a situation like that by playing the race card. It's hard to judge, being a bit of a "he said, she said" kind of thing. To be honest, I don't know enough about what happened to judge in either party's favour.

So I was reading this today: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/14/django-unchained-actor-alleges-racial-bias-arrest-los-angeles?commentpage=2 Apparently this Daniele Watts, who had an acting role in Django Unchained, claims that when she was kissing her white boyfriend, someone called the cops. And rather than telling the person who called the cops to mind their own damn business, she claims, they came to see why a white man and a black woman were kissing in public. She felt that she was profiled as a prostitute just for being black and kissing a white man, and then refused to show her ID and tried to walk away. At this point she was handcuffed and detained, and only released when her identity was established. Her boyfriend claims the police had threatened to call an ambulance and have her drugged because she was displaying psychologically unstable behaviour. Now, obviously this is only one side of the story, and the police has not yet given their side of the story as they're still "looking into it". And the woman admits that she didn't give her ID when asked, which probably could have solved the incident a lot sooner. Some people in the comment section claim that she should not have had to give her ID when she did nothing wrong - I am not an expert on U.S. law so I have no idea if you're obligated to ID yourself in all cases. And I have no idea how she behaved, she may indeed have behaved in a way that the police might think psychologically unstable. So I am quite open to see the other side of the story here, and awaiting what the police will say. What puzzles me though is why they were asked to show their ID's in the first place and why the police would think it necessary to respond to a complaint about two people kissing in their car. So, to those United Statians reading this, can you guys explain this or maybe give some more background? I am trying not to jump to conclusions here, and maybe there is another spin on this story which would suddenly turn it upside down, but it looks quite bad from where I am sitting if a white man and a black man kissing in a car is reason enough for the police to come have a look.

We already have a thread with scantily clad ladies, so I'm not sure why we need it spilling into other threads. Although this thread is not exactly a shining moment in Obsidian history. In 300 years a keen young historian will base an entire thesis paper on this single thread, where in it will serve as a mirror of 21th century society. After he's done with the paper, he will be sedated and wheeled into cryogenic stasis indefinitely per newly issued directive, as history will be considered to be bunk and of no use to society.

In general, talking down people is always bad. Even someone who really is faster than a female track athlete putting down women for not being as fast as him is pathetic. Let's get that out of the way first. But simply stating that men have a genetic advantage when it comes to sports compared to women is not sexist or mean. It's just stating a very basic, obvious fact. It's not demeaning to women, and any attempt at making it sound like that comes across as a little sad, to be honest.

On one hand, fat-shaming is baaaad. On the other hand, it is kind of ridiculous when whale-sized people talk crap about the achievements (or lack thereof) of athletes. But that's actually fairly tangential to what I've said. My point is that "women are weaker than men, this is just a fact of biology" is kind of a misleading statement, since the gap can be overcome (in comparison to the large majority of men) with a sufficient amount of training. So basically: - if you are not an athlete you cannot discuss athletes - if you are not an actor you cannot discuss actors - if you are not a filmmaker you cannot discuss films - if you are not game developer you cannot discuss games - if you are not an politician you cannot discuss politics This is of course false. "Women are weaker than men as a biology fact is completely true. What is false is the conclusions that people make of this statement. Like if women are weaker than men therefor I'm stronger than any women because I'm a man. That is false unless the man in question actually trains his physical prowess. I'd like to add: if you're not a baker, you can't discuss bread. Sorry, if the baker gives you a blackened loaf of bread that tastes like charcoal, you'll have to eat it, and like it too. After all, you're not a baker, so you can't have a valid opinion on bread. You get this a lot in discussions, and it's laughable.

I really don't know what will change Putin's mind, if there's even anything that can change his mind. Like Gromnir mentioned earlier, the Russian economy was already in bad shape, and the sanctions are making it worse. But in a way for Putin the sanctions serve to put the blame for the bad economy elsewhere. The majority of Russians won't blame Putin, but the West for the rising prices they are faced with. It just means all the more fodder for Putin's propaganda channels, but it also means Putin really can't back down against the West - maybe even setting him on a more confrontational course than he had been planning on. Then again, it's hard to know what goes on in the man's head. Is he a pragmatist who is grabbing as much as he can get away with? Or is he going for the full package, come what may? When even Merkel, who is anything but a hardliner when it comes to Russia, feels the need to assure the Baltic states protection against Russia if it should come to an invasion, it makes me personally quite nervous. Of course, no sane person would invade the Baltic states at this point, but it's really hard to tell if Putin at this point counts as a sane person.

I sleep soundly at night in the knowledge our European Union overlords are keeping powerhungry vacuum cleaners at bay. Hurray for the E.U., now made even better for having a president I never had a chance to vote for, and who can't even speak any language I understand.

You know, I'm not the sort of person who would post supposed links to these photos only to have them lead to the most horrifying goatse images you could find... But it is what anyone who is looking for these pictures would deserve. Also, like Lexx, I have no idea who these girls are. I can only imagine they must be famous over there in The U.S. of A., since I've never heard of them.
