oh my, wish you had said "not appropriate for work." guess i have to add that to "things i did today," though this is certainly an enabler for "your mother." taks

the USSR also had a constitution... that has no bearing on whether the people's voices mean anything. you'll note, too, that the context in here has also been one of the EU constitution trumping national constitutions (which i commented on, too). i don't know enough about how the EU works to state that it is one way or the other, however. why are you stuck on this point that i never made? this concept is your invention, not mine, get over it please. yes, btw, an untouchable government is very bad. if you don't know why, i cannot be of help. perhaps, and i don't really know. my original point was directed squarely towards walsh's comment about additional bureaucracy... why is it needed? for socialsim, IMO. taks

no, i'm not. not at all. you just don't get it - all forms of socialism are tyrannical, the only difference between socialism and communism is that communism lies to you by stating that some day you won't need the oppressive government, i.e., communism's stated goal is utopia. taks

i did not say it would lead to socialism, i said it was required (not completely, but it makes such a thing simpler when the peoples' voices no longer matter). what it seems is happening here, and everyone seems to be complaining about, is that the will of the people w.r.t. the EU is becoming less and less a factor, and hence, the "governing body" that rules the EU is slowly becoming more and more untouchable. taks
-
ignorance from the likes of you is what socialism counts on. one of the requirements of a socialist "country" is an untouchable governing body... which is precisely what everyone in here is complaining about. you can't even see the forest through the trees, but they count on that. taks edit: ignorance is a more appropriate term... apologies for being as inflammatory as i was. it was unintentional.

the first step towards socialism... oh, and brdavs, while it may be true that treaties are more powerful than european constitutions, the same cannot be said for that of the US. taks

i have to admit that i got it on with elanee this past time through the OC. i didn't even realize it was an option till she suddenly wanted to knock boots while we were on the castle walls talking about stuff. generally speaking, i'd prefer to skip them or not have them at all. something about slaying orcs in the morning and "she loves me, she loves me not" in the evening just don't sit right... oh, that and i'm playing an orc right now (my son's choice). taks

c*u*m hoc, ergo proctor hoc. in other words "With this, therefore because of this," which is a fallacious argument. totally nonsense, btw. completely different cultures so you are not even comparing apples to apples. most violent crimes in america are committed with illegal weapons anyway, which immediately rules out this nonsense as well. not all crimes involve otherwise illegal weapons, either. if your argument were true, btw, then DC should have less crime than the rest of the major US urban areas as well (since handguns are illegal). got news for you... stating that the difference between rich and poor is the cause of crime is equally nonsense. most crime is committed within economic classes, i.e., poor on poor. taks edit: it did not like that word in the name of the fallacy... oh, and i'm waiting for the dimwit to show up and point out that this is not a logical fallacy. i'll reply immediately by noting that not only did i not say the word "logical," it is listed as an informal fallacy in nearly every text on the subject.

so what kind of models are you going to build? i always preferred wwII-era planes. taks

even in the dead of summer it drops below 50 overnight in colorado, often below 40 in the mountains where we ultimately camp. we were only at 8200' this weekend. when we go up north to sylvan lake, however, we're probably over 9000'. of course, they don't have a "last frost" of the year up there, either. in fact, it can snow year-round. we got a bunch of snow in the mountains all over just last week (pike's peak got covered again). nothing better than waking up to 30 degree weather in the morning, snuggled into your sleeping bag. taks

it's been rough... rain, snow or just plain cold crappy weather nearly every weekend this spring. memorial was the first weekend we could actually have gone, which coincided with my graduation stuff so we didn't. not that i like going out with all the amateurs anyway... holiday weekends are generally a bite since there's so many people out. taks

i finally got to go camping this weekend. yeah, i know it's not "today," but since i was out of town in the middle of colorado, i couldn't post that i was "camping today" on saturday. it was nice, btw. blue mountain campground just outside of 11-mile canyon. between the weather and various activities related to school, this was the first opportunity we really had this year to pitch a tent... it felt good. today i went to the doctor. just a follow-up. taks

are the leaders of the EU government elected, or appointed? taks

not much chance of either a hurricane in tennessee. a flood is possible but only in low-lying areas. most developments are generally rated for a low risk of flood. you still have a concrete foundation sunk into the ground, as well as a "crawl space" below the house most of the time (in florida, i had no crawl space). the hole just isn't deep enough for a full basement. it's interesting out here in colorado. you can't put grass up next to your house because the constant watering causes the clay to expand and contract (as it gets wet and dries) which ultimately cracks your foundation. as a result, i have 4 feet of rock all the way around my home. on topic, i was just looking at homes by john laing (www.johnlainghomes.com) since i have one by them already. they have a new location called promontory point going in up in monument. my boss is talking about moving (where he lives) up to denver, and several of the other guys that work for us live up in the monument area (which is closer to denver than colorado springs is). i mentioned that i'd like to move north anyway (more trees by monument), and he's considering moving the office up somewhere between denver and the springs. besides, i want to move to get a bigger yard anyway... that's what i've done today. taks
-
my guess would be that they do have a basement and just don't show it on the floorplan (given that he's looking in TN). of course, there are plenty of homes out here (CO) that don't have a basement, either. it adds a significant sum onto your home price, which might not be the best route for a single person such as GD. taks
-
that and florida is basically a big rock anywhere near the coast. digging a basement would be a bear. you can get basements in the inner part of the state, such as in orlando, btw. they're significantly above the water table there with dirt under their homes. taks

that's almost on the verge of insanity: repeatedly attempting the same thing in hopes that the outcome will be different this time over the last. it could also be senility, but i thought you were younger than that. taks

btw, i should add, the whole "sign the back of your credit card" thing is moronic. you lose your card and now some forger actually has the real deal signature to learn from. difficult to dispute the charge when the CC company comes back and asks "is this your signature?" "uhhh, yeah... but i swear it wasn't me that signed for those HD TVs!" taks

i've noticed that many (if not most) places are getting better... i have to show my ID since i write "check ID" on the back, and at least 50% of the places i use my card ask for my id. taks
