  1. ALL of the M&M games had a techie portion. it was their "thing" i suppose. i did not like it, personally. 6 was good, 7 wasn't bad, 8 started to suck and 9 blew chunks. unfortunately, the engine technology BARELY changed from 6 through 9... pitiful since that spanned 5 years or so. taks
  2. the sad thing is that of all the brainwashing talk in the world about the U.S., we are the least cognizant of the things we are supposedly brainwashed about. apparently, our brainwashing was not very complete. f.y.i. denizens of this board... the senate is part of congress. the statement should be "the house of representatives and the senate"... taks
  3. mostly it's just new. it is the result of a fan contest. high fantasy if i'm not mistaken, and a fresh world ready for exploration. i've not heard much about it from players, however. taks
  4. in any microsoft application, you just set your font to "symbol" to use the copyright character. the easiest way is to open up a charmap, set it's font to "symbol", find the approriate character, select it and then hit copy. you can then paste it into your application but you will need to change the font for that character. in most fonts, it is a null entry so a box shows up (it is an E with an accent in futura book, however). taks

you should really lay off the bourbon, r-p. rum is a much more sensible and level-headed liqour to discuss such matters with. taks

be careful, there are posters around here that think there is something sinister with getting sports news from fox. i have been chastised in the past (in spite of the fact that foxsports links through msn). btw, WOOHOO!!! NHL IS BACK!!! taks
  7. ok, if i put in taks i get shadow dweller, if i put in darth taks (just because), i get liquid skin. i think the latter is scarier than angeldust. taks
  8. i think you're right... i feel very cool now. my nickname, btw, is now "flashback"... taks
  9. Angeldust. That's scary. taks
  10. OY VEY! the HYPOCRISY astounds... back to back sentences to create the hypocritical phrase as well, almost a record (i've seen it happen within a sentence, sadly). good thing you're one of the elite, to which you are allowed to make such statements about other countries' educational systems. otherwise, where would poor old lowly americans be without such enlightened guidance. you go man... fight the good fight. taks
  11. as opposed to which other ideas? get real. nobody else even cared. there are issues and nobody said these things work themselves out over night. japan took over 7 years to settle down after the war. it ain't easy. oh, and saying that "your solution sucks" as an attack on the argument is flawed. nobody could have known how things would (or have) turned out. maybe if some of the whining apologists had offered up real solutions, other than therapy for the jihadists, we'd have had more to work with. taks
  12. yeah, they say "let them be free!" then do nothing about it. that's pretty hypocritical, mkreku... even for you. brutally murdering your citizens is NOT a differing ideology. it is morally repugnant for ANYBODY to allow. enslaving women is NOT a differing ideology, mkreku, it is morally repugnant. you may think such things are OK because "well, it's not my country doing the enslavement" (yeah, i read that bit... they only took women... ), but in the end, we're one world and we need to keep in mind that in this world, some rights are given at birth, no matter where you were born. as such, freedom comes with a cost. taks

let the buyer beware. we have a heck of a tool in the internet. if a company is abusing whatever power it may have (only granted via government intervention, btw) then people will find out and stop buying. when given a free reign in an unobstructed market, coporations have zero power. they simply operate in a manner in which they can make the most profit. if they screw up, people stop buying their products, end of story. yes, btw, the government does indeed have the power to provide some restrictions, but only so far as to prevent corporate actions from impinging on citizens' rights. they are there to protect free trade, not rule it. taks

actually, "right wing" would be fascism, which i abhore even more than socialism. it's still government intervention into the system. i've never claimed ours is the best. we have issues that just aren't resolvable within our system. i think republics are better than any other, but implementations are varied and many. good luck. i think that's my point... oh, and no, it's not really socialism/capitalism debate. i just say socialism because the other government intervention scheme, fascism, is mostly removed from the world. there's still some fascists running around, but not nearly as many as socialists. IMO, it is free market vs. government controlled market debate. taks

i'm not a libertarian. i'm a capitalist. any government intrusion is bad. depends upon what you call unfair competition. that's government's failure, as they overstep their mandate to protect fair trade. a lot of the problems stem from the fact that these companies get into pseudo-monopolistic situations as a result of government intervention in the first place. if they'd just butt out, things would work out a bit more often. probably right... taks
  16. it's because we're the only ones standing up for it worldwide. the brits and some of the coalition are still on board... but who knows. taks
  17. btw, ender, since when was george washington NOT the first US president? i'm curious, since he presided over the constitutional convention in 1787, and was then unanimously elected first president in 1789 immediately after the constitution was ratified. did you just re-write history? taks
  18. spoken by somebody who thinks the government has a right to tell individual citizens how much their labor and/or any products they produce are worth. you suddenly know what freedom is? taks
  19. yeah, well, the 5 seconds was from the first to the last bullet. since the first was the start, it had already been fired, which means it's load time did not count. the only time that counts is between the 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd... it's also called math. taks PS: the "somebody" that thought it took 6.9 s is where my sarcasm goes... not you, flatus, unless of course you were the somebody?
  20. OK, so you start with a loaded gun, fire a shot... reload, then fire again, 2.3 seconds later. elapsed time so far is 2.3 seconds. reload, then fire again, 2.3 seconds later. elapsed time is now 4.6 seconds, and 3 shots have been fired. oddly, in less than 5 seconds. a feat previously thought impossible because...? taks

uh, action-reaction rules apply dude. in order for them to jump, they must first overcome gravity (9.8m/s^2). jumping up and then falling back has a zero net reaction. taks
  22. st. louis blues hockey... st. louis cardinals baseball... until they fire mike martz, st. louis rams are on my doody list. taks

that's not really a "force" in the sense you're thinking... it's centripetal acceleration. the phantom force is a result of the intertial tendency to follow a straight line. the force is gravity. taks PS: most folks still call it "centrifugal force"... and i cringe.
  24. that's what i thought you'd say... taks

that's the advance in the perihelion of mercury. newton's laws cannot address this issue, but relativity can. well, mostly, i think there is still a slight error in the prediction but i am not sure. they talk about it in the "against the mainstream" threads over at the badastonomy website i so often refer to. taks
