  1. since we are "inside the system," the force isn't insignificant, it is precisely equal to zero. taks

    NWN2

Yeah, but isn't that more of an action game and not really very rpg-ish? Mark
  3. i only briefly looked at this silly claim, so my question may or may not be valid. in particular, do these idiots understand the whole action/reaction concept? taks

i'm not saying they're clueless, i'm just saying that we almost NEVER get a game in stable condition on the first few cuts of a guess by the companies developing them. btw, when i mentioned "developers," i really should have said "development companies." based on every project i've worked on as a design engineer, typically the individual developers (people) always try to overshoot their time estimates. pressure from the company is what results in unrealistic timelines, which results in rushed designs, which results in delays required to fix errors, which results in missing even the conservative estimate from the engineer in the first place! further reason to change my statement to "development companies." hopefully this is a delay simply to stabilize and put some of the slashed content back in. the former is obvious, though i failed to actually check the report last night at home, so i can't comment on additional content (IT nazism is hit and miss with gaming sites here at work). taks

Not really. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> uh, yes, really. toee got delayed twice, amounting to about 4-5 months of extra dev time. certainly they had to make some changes in that time, but what was "removed" as a result of the changes was done haphazardly and did not take much effort. taks

i think one of these days someone is finally going to get the hint that most developers have no real clue how long it will take to code a new game, particularly if they are also using new tools. early hints of release dates should always be taken with a grain of salt, and maybe a beer or two. taks

dunno. i'm curious about the 50-60 hour thing since there have been major discussions in here regarding the evolution of that number. taks

    NWN2

apparently NWN2 is delayed till late october. the story lead at ve3d says "because of 50-60 hours of gameplay..." (paraphrased). i cannot link to the actual story due to IT nazism, but you all know how to get there... taks
  9. i believe this was discussed and the answer was no. taks
  10. I was just about to post the same thing. Now I don't have to. Thanks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ditto. though if memory serves, there are a ton of early 70s nova episodes with spock that i remember watching... was that nova? taks

    gametap

most emulators explicitly state that they cannot be distributed with ROMs (at least, most that i've seen). taks

mame does not work on XP, unfortunately. at least, not that i can figure out. a friend sent me mame immediately after i signed up for gametap and realized there are no DKs. personally, galaga and DK are the only two games i really care about (they were also the only two i really got into). oh, with DK, i made it to the "7th pies" plus a few screens after (though only a couple times). i just remember "7th pies" as the tipping point my buddy and i struggled with for several months. shortly after jumping that hurdle, all the machines we played got removed, or switched to what we called "hard mode," and we soon stopped playing. then it went away altogether. those were the days. taks

    gametap

yes, though i do not have one. i don't play any games that use it so no need. taks
  14. just curious if anyone else signed up for gametap's free trial (two weeks i believe). some of the old arcade games that are on there can be found elsewhere, i know, but it's still interesting for a quick ride. i was disappointed, however, that donkey kong was not on the list. that was my all-time fav. well, that and galaga, which is on the list, but much more difficult to play without a huge console and a little ball on a joystick (one quarter was 4 hours for me on galaga back in the day... i'd have to just give up and give it to someone out of boredom). anyway, i'll drop it as soon as the pay period kicks in. not enough stuff in there. oh, the funny one was baldur's gate. apparently it is actually the PC version. i started just to see how long it would take. 4 hour download. hehe. taks
  15. it is a common practice for fraternities to give pledges non-alcoholic beer. it works. they act drunk. in all 10 dimensions, actually. taks
  16. unfortunately, you're probably correct. it is inherently more secure due to the limited number of ways you can access the internals, however. winders has so many "doors" to critical system resources that it is nearly impossible to lock them all. linux is much simpler in that respect. of course, a larger user base will result in more options with linux, too. taks
  17. unfortunately, this is just too true. laying blame anymore is impossible as well because the warlike existence in that part of the world is almost too ingrained to be dropped. both sides have gotten to the point that the most innocuous action results in extreme reaction. the hate just runs too deep for any reasonable resolution. taks
  18. i intend to set my system up in dual-boot mode shortly, with xp pro and linux (probably fedora core 5). the ONLY reason i still have winders at home is because of games. if more companies go to linux porting, i will drop the winders partition completely (for home use). from a business standpoint, i run both win 2k and linux (fedora core 4 at the moment). i need the winders box because several of the tools i regularly use are primarily winders tools (visio in particular). heck, most of my actual development is done in linux (even matlab has a linux port, the only way possible to use 64-bit machines, btw) even at work. in short, yay to NWN2-linux! taks PS: recent linux releases are undeniably MUCH more stable than any winders release has ever been. also, there are few, if any, security issues with linux though once it becomes more mainstream, that may change... i don't know enough about the subject to really comment further.

  20. that makes sense. i haven't read any details just that the 3rd was "in progress" which could mean anything from pre-production to post-production. taks
  21. wow. a quick scan of puuk's "rant" and i realize what the word "ideology" really means. he took the absolute left-wing blog version of every one of his "points" against bush. certainly there's merit in some of it, but c'mon. taks
  22. uh, i thought the third one was already filmed? it is scheduled for release next summer at least. the fourth, however, is in negotiations. taks
  23. cars. it is hilarious. typical children's movie, however, with a moral. and yes, tow-mater actually says "get 'r done" once. i thought aeon flux was pretty cool, too. the hands as feet thing was definitely stoopid. like, almost annoyingly stoopid. taks
  24. i disagree with the article's assessment that syd lost it because of too much LSD. as noted in numerous interviews (band members, friends, syd himself), he was likely schizophrenic and the LSD only made it worse. i.e. it wasn't what caused his breakdown. taks
  25. overrated or not, dark side of the moon, a sort of tribute to syd in many ways, was on the top 100 list for album sales longer than any other. taks
