  1. "Haters gonna hate"
  2. Have you seen any JRPGs?
  3. They are dying breed in the west... In Japan for Example last three month sales was lead by PSP, and they do get 3-4x more games on handhelds like we do here... Western Developers are just all over the AAA games, and then they are crying about high costs and low sales... That's because the Japanese have been perfectly happy playing practically the same game over and over for the last 20 years. There's hardly and innovation which probably helps keep the costs down.
  4. I just remembered that the Squadron of Shame had a really good Deus Ex retrospective, discussing what it was, what it was trying to accomplish and how well it did that. Good stuff.
  5. I'm more interested as to what SEGA expected. I still remember Capcom expecting 1.5M+ sales for Bionic Commando and ending up around 700k after lowering the price twice.
  6. Right, I forgot that AP came out in Europe first. Oh well, at least we'll get the numbers for the whole month, not just three days.
  7. We'll get the NPDs next Thursday, which will probably be the best metric we're going to get for AP's success unless Obsidian or SEGA say something official. Too bad we'll never get the Steam numbers...
  8. Obviously, the interview guy is just hilariously awful.
  9. DX3's gonna own you guys!!! Yeah bro, it's gonna have like this deeper meaning, like the guy who burned out on the Sun 'n stuff. Totally rad, dawg!
  10. More like budget in this day and age. There's still the uncanny valley.
  11. Also actors make or break movies while in games the quality of the "actors" is limited by the technology.
  12. Ehm... ever seen Pocahontas or Avatar??? now say again that technology does not change in movies... And Doom comletely destroys Half-Life 2 in gameplay, fun, multiplayer and replayability... This is exactly my point, the technology changed from Pocahontas to Avatar, but the story and everything else remained practically the same. Going from FF to ME, everything changed, the genre is portrayed completely differently because of the improvements in technology. Also whether you think HL2 is a good game or not, it is clearly an evolution of the FPS genre and radically different from Doom, for example. And this... Ah, the tallest midget argument, the writing might be good for a videogame, but shouldn't we set our standards a little higher?
  13. I guess I missed that part of the 80s. Carry on
  14. @Niten_Ryu: I'm not really seeing the connection between baroque and the 80s...
  15. Guess the shiny black finish wasn't everyone's cup of tea.
  16. Is it really that bad? I think it's pretty ace. Might be better when you're playing the game and surrounded by it, but in the trailer it kind of stuck out to me. I'm all for cool art direction, but cyberpunk and baroque seems like a weird combination, but then again Dead Space pulled the gothic thing off pretty well... @Greasy: I just posted the same trailer like 40 minutes ago. EDIT: You and your stealth edits...
  17. Also, looks like the washed out gray-brown is making a comeback
  18. This is closest to the official thread that I could find. In case you missed it, there's a new long CG trailer and a bunch of supposedly in-game screenshots(courtesy of NeoGAF): Looks pretty nice, but the baroque thing seems really distracting and out of place... Oh and apparently it's called "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" now, for what it's worth.
  19. So comparing Casablanca to Lost In Translation or Godfather to Departed is the same as comparing Doom to Half-Life 2 or Final Fantasy to Mass Effect? Games are fundamentally different because the games change radically with the technology while movies don't.
  20. Even if they share some similarities, games and movies are fundamentally different so your comparison is invalid. Also, I never mentioned graphics, the whole medium has changed since 2000.
  21. Deus Ex and system shock 2 ARE the games by which I will judge any shooter/rpg hybrids until either of them are surpassed. (i think deus ex surpassed system shock 2 in every way but shodan) mass effect 2 was a pretty awesome shooter/rpg hybrid, but still not as good as deus ex imo the deus ex worship started ten years ago, not when alpha protocol was announced ...and it was an awesome game, ten years ago. By putting some games on infinitely tall pedestals, we tend to overlook the negatives. If you go back and take a long critical look at Deus Ex's writing, voice acting, shooting mechanics they don't really stand up to modern standards. We don't need sacred cows on gold pedestals that are the benchmarks for everything else. Learn not only from what they did right, but also from their mistakes.
  22. probably reading the 13 books
