Almost a quarter of men 'admit to rape in parts of Asia'
BruceVC replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
I'm not lazy. You're just not saying anything new to me. I know very well what you meant. I just don't agree ( or to be more correct, I'm very skeptical of it). Or do you think you are so fascinating that I'm going to devote all my time and attention to absorbring every kernel of your wisdom? That anything you said and read is completely and utterly fresh and interesting to me? I wouldn't be surprised if you think I'm obtuse or boring. Depending on my mood, I often am. I freely admit that. If you think replying to me is a waste of time...well, no one is forcing you to reply. I for one know this is waste of time. Why do you think I post in general discussion anyway? To kill time during a slow work day (and if there's nothing interesting going on the Eternity forums). Maybe you have some higher stakes in this discussion? Meh. I need my coffe. I enjoy debates and I mean what I post but my opinion can be changed if someone can convince me. Normally this has to happen through credible links or some indisputable fact that I wasn't aware of. I will continue to debate with you if I feel the topic is interesting but on this particular discussion I have said all I can say. I don't consider any of the debates I have on these forums as a waste of time, if I did I would say so and move on or not have the debate in the first place. Finally don't be embarrassed to admit you learnt something new on a forum. Most of the time I learn new things from these forums on a weekly basis and its great -
You guys make some good points but I don't see this constant discussion of how game x was terrible in the same light as supporting a sports team or catharsis. A sports team you have an almost a patriotic love of. So you will discuss improvements in the way the team plays but people generally always support the same teams Venting is discussing your issues around an experience. But surly the venting has to end sometime? Also I still don't get how a person can play a game for 50 + hours a and claim they didn't enjoy it or only find fault. Its like reading a book you are not enjoying, would you normally carry on reading it after a couple of chapters? /

Wait. So you think the typical Rockstar fashion is "ridiculously boring". You didn't like GTA4. You didn't like LA Noire. You didn't like Red Dead Redemption. Why the **** are you buying Rockstar games? Why the **** are you even talking about GTA5? Because in this forum, people spend an inordinate amount of time talking about games they don't like. To be fair Nep, that happens on pretty much any gaming forum. Some people seem to have the need to buy games they will hate, play games they hate for hours, and spend time talking about those hated games on forums. It just seems like a such a waste of time to discuss something for hours you don't like. Especially when you are so many things you can discuss that you enjoy. Also why would a person play something for hours that they are not enjoying, surly you would just stop playing the game?

Good for you. Contempt? Insulated thinking? So because I'm not strolling across the flower fields happily embracing anyone who talks to me from above like I'm some uneducated child, I'm "insulated"? Because I don't immediately agree with someones theories, I'm "refusing to even cosider it"? Must be nice in strawman land. Heveans forbid anyone even dares to contemplate different possibilities. The issue I have with debating you Trashman is that you are lazy and obdurate. I stated "rape is about power and not sex". You said " its about sex". I disputed that and posted 3 links that explained why rape is more about the psychological control and domination of women. Its not about the physical power of actually being able to rape a women. So you misunderstood the definition of the word power in the context in this discussion If you had just spent 10 minutes reading these links you would have understood that, but you are lazy and refused to do that. I can't have a debate with someone who is not prepared to at least understand the opposing argument when he is presented with credible links. Its a waste of my time -

Very much so, the series never ceases to amaze with all the Machiavellian political intrigue and strategies you will witness -
We'll have to agree to disagree around whether Russia's attempts to broker a peaceful solution make sense in regard to Syria. It may seem like I am flip-flopping on the armed intervention in Syria but I have followed many new perspectives and I fail to see how at least allowing the Russians to get Assad to destroy his Chemical weapons is a bad idea? I'm not a great chess player, but you must be one lousy chess player! Because it's not good if the chemical weapons are removed, leaving Russia strongarming Eastern Europe, and resurgent in the Mideast when the US is apparently backsliding and impotent. Because Russia is presently under the control of the most rapacious oligarchical kleptocrats in human history. As oby would confirm, if oby was actually Russian, and could remember and be consistent in her spelling and grammatical errors. You right I'm not a good chess player Walsie lets deal with one global political development at a time, I am not concerned with the rise of Russian hegemony in Eastern Europe as its not an issue yet that demands our immediate attention. Syria is the problem at the moment

Would you dare to share the art, please. A delicious cheese sauce could have infinite uses. Absolutely and you a right a good cheese sauce can be very versatile and can enhance most meals. You will have to experiment a little to get the right consistency that suits you. I generally use a good mature Cheddar and I sometimes mix in a Swiss Cheese like Gruyere. You can use any Cheese that suitably melts but you obviously can't use Cheese like Halloumi as it won't melt. Make sure all the Cheese you will use is grated The recipe is based on the standard white sauce recipe and once you have made it a few times it will become easy Heat a small pot on medium heat Use 1 Tablespoon of Butter and let Butter melt but don't burn it Add 1 Tablespoon of flour to pot Whisk the flour and butter for about 2-3 minutes. You want to allow the flour to be properly integrated into the butter Start pouring in milk slowly and whisking. Don't pour all the milk in one go, pour and whisk.,,,pour and whisk You'll notice the sauce almost immediately starts thickening as the milk is added. This is fine. Just add the mild slowly until the sauce is not liquid but slightly thick Then start adding the Cheese in batches and whisk The sauce should thicken nicely I add Mustard Powder, Paprika and White Pepper to flavour but you can add any spice that suits you what you got there is pretty much the classic welsh rarebit cheese mix... save that dark beer is used instead o' whiskey. add dollop o' dijon mustard and worcestershire. we would also recommend cream or half & half 'stead of milk... if you got it. HA! Good Fun! Wait, I don't think whiskey is the same thing as whisking. Although I do have a fantastic dark ale that was brewed with pecans, wheat and rye, with one quarter aged in bourbon barrels. I love the idea of using half & half, too, even though I already drink gallons of whole milk all the time. I love dairy, which is why I'm curious about a versatile cheese sauce, thank you for sharing. Yes you are correct, I did mean whisking as in the movement with the hand and not the alcoholic beverage

How big of a problem is it, actually? I'm curious about over-representation in the media as well. There was an ad campaign in Edmonton that was posters that would say "Don't be that guy" with messaging along how if she is too drunk to consent, it's not okay. A Men's Rights group put up posters with similar imagery, pointing out "Don't be that girl" with messaging about how just because you regret it doesn't mean you're consensual. It's also interesting because the Steubenville case, as well as one in Nova Scotia (which ultimately ended with the girl killing herself) did not really give me the impression that men are seen as guilty from the get go. In both situations I think there was a lot of support for the young men and in the case of the Nova Scotia girl, plenty of "**** shaming" as news of her exploits went around. I think part of the problem for this is that people over state the notion of "cry rape because you regret it" and in these cases, so there's still incidents of "women are vindictive." A large problem, in that even if it doesn't happen very much, definitely ARE situations where women falsely cry wolf. Some overly inebriated women (3 of them) in Edmonton wanted to take a taxi, and when they were belligerent the taxi driver kicked them out of the cab. In response, they started accusing him of touching them and called the police on him. Fortunately, the cab driver had it all on video and no charges were laid, but man oh man did those women ever do something that is very serious and should never be done because it only undermines the capabilities of legitimate victims to seek help. Was so frustrating. I am worried, however, that these incidents while rare get great exposure, leading them to happen more often than not. Especially among later teens and young adults, however, I definitely get the impression that a lot of people feel that rape accusations come from women with regrets/vindictiveness, rather than actual victims. I don't know if this is a fair interpretation based on actual behaviour, but my gut tells me that it's probably not. You make some good points on a relevant topic, the issue I have is with peoples perspective is what you raised. There are cases of men being raped and women crying wolf or being vindictive. But these are very small compared to the actual and continued rape of women by men. In South Africa we have a real problem around rape. We had 64,000 reported cases of rape last year but apparently only 1 in 6 women report the act. So we talking about nearly 400,000 rape incidents a year. That's 1000 per day !!!! And I can guarantee that all these rapes are not women making it up or being bitter about some man treating them badly -

Shame Lexx, how did you get over it? What did your family and friends say...I assume they believed you? -
Of course the haven't, silly. They don't want to jeopardize their console sales. People would just wait longer then. Rockstar usually always announces a PC SKU months later, after the console versions have shipped and sold 10 trillion copies. That could be a valid reason and makes sales sense

Its amazing how we can differ on certain games but have similar views on others. I loved LA Noire and GTA4. My only complaint about LA Noire is that there weren't enough incentives to explore the city and I enjoyed there rendition of LA in the 1940's

I'm working on a technology roadmap presentation for one of my large customers tomorrow. The software I support has some really exciting new features coming down in the next release so it should be interesting and relevant for this customer

Peopel from different cultures can have diffeent views? How is that surprising? Also, rape IS about sex. TI's the entire point. If rape was just about power, than anyone who is abusing his power over you is raping you. Rape in almost all cases is not about sex and anyone who has spent just a little time researching the reasons behind it would be aware of that. Consider this a free education Trashman. And they say you can't learn anything on the gaming forum http://www.articlesbase.com/womens-issues-articles/rape-is-about-power-control-and-anger-not-sex-1345819.html http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/aug/29/rape-about-power-not-sex http://www.rediff.com/news/column/rape-is-about-power-learn-to-wield-it-to-fight-rape/20130823.htm -

I don't understand your skiing analogy in relation to rape? Can you explain it in normal English Also I don't see how you can have different definitions of rape and how the Asians cannot believe what we believe as far as what is acceptable. Rape is not actually about the sex, its mostly about power and the thought of power over women. That doesn't change irrespective of where you live. -
I read this letter and I'm very impressed. I have never known Putin to be so diplomatic, he really is reaching out to explain the Russian position in a way that is not pugnacious. I also respect Obama for taking into account the Russian attempts to broker peace. For me this letter is important as we can finally see what the Russians are thinking and its not unreasonable. The funny thing is they have opinions on Syria that many people on these forums share, like the danger of helping the rebels due to the Islamic fundamentalists. Anyway we need to give this initiative a chance to get the Syrians to disarm there Chemical weapons. It does seem the right thing to do under the circumstances

I still don't get the funny part, what she is saying makes perfect sense to me. She is saying that if you never force yourself on someone for sex then the reward from that will be a gift. She is speaking metaphorically but it is still correct -

Just concerned about social justice that's all. "You might not think it now, but making sure the sex you are involved in always involves complete consent will be the best gift you can give your future self" is laughable though, the best gift, heh. Explain why you think that consensual sex is something that we should be laughing at? -
Tonight I'm having Steak and Potato wedges with my famous homemade Cheese sauce, I have got the Cheese sauce recipe down to a fine art so it will be delicious

Syria won't fight Israel under pretty much any circumstances. They'd lose, badly, even if they weren't fighting a civil war as well, plus it would guarantee US intervention, even if you had a neo isolationist (Rand Paul? so practically unlikely) as President. You can make a nice parallel between Israel's 'theoretical' nuclear stockpile and Syria's 'theoretical' stockpile though-since they both exist for the same reason (if we look like losing a war we'll nuke Damascus/ if we look like losing a war we'll gas Tel Aviv), are both undeclared, both 'illegal', both never been used (r00fles!) etc. Thought he meant my statement on Israel's nuclear weapons. Guessing that if the US stopped caring about Israel, any future war probably would be with Syria if any state were to. No I meant it was a conspiracy theory that Syria would attempt to seriously attack Israel
