edit: From an investment standpoint, they aren't good, because they seem to have hit a point where their profits are matching their costs. But as a business they seem as stable as you can get in the video game industry. I hate to disagree with you Hurlshot but no company will stay in business if the profits only cover the costs. So if that's true EA will need to make some serious structural changes if they intend to have any future

How many [Rings]?
BruceVC replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
LOL awesome '3' hasn't been voted for :? (I can see 2 votes for '2', 1 for '4' and 1 for '8) --- I like the idea of interfering rings (did I just say that out loud?) - as Lephys suggested - I guess it depends on how PE rings work as to how much bother it would be to code that in. If we're going to go for more than 2, then I can't see a logical reason for stopping short of 8 (if we discount thumbs). you were right I didn't make my selection, its now fixed -
Wow after our last discussion around rape and the reasons for it I had lost hope that any point from you in the future would resonate with me intellectually but you do make some good and interesting points now

Most of the time there is no meaning for dreams, its just your subconscious mind rationalizing events in your life. They don't have to have a complicated reason for you having them

Great weather today so its Braai time (Barbeque). Spare Ribs, Boerewors, Pork Chops and my homemade Potato Salad.

You didn't. I did. We are allowed to do that you know, bring new things into a discussion Yes, and we are allowed to laugh at you when you miss the point of my post and derail it into a Steam comparison, then start handing out condencending winks. But hey, you're the Master of Communication, amirite? Did someone by any chance get out of the wrong side of bed this morning

I may not agree with what you are saying but I can appreciate the fact you have taken the time to explain what you feel in a way that is not hysterical and is reasonable, so good post

I enjoy wine and ale on the same basis as I enjoy food: flavour and company. I am a simple person and I have to admit I drink alcohol for the effect

How many [Rings]?
BruceVC replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Interesting post I voted for 3 due to the whole overpowering factor of having too many rings -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueT79ZPY9IM&feature=player_embedded#t=289 Wow that movie was really brilliant, very reassuring actually that most normal people won't accept blatant discrimination.

Okay I only became active last year when the funding of PE started. I left my old forum, Mortal Online, and appreciated the discussions and intellectual debate on these forums I really enjoy these forums. I think we have a nice mix of eccentric, brilliant, sensitive, verbose, reasonable and all round nice people who are regulars. The only thing we don't have is enough lady members.

Yeah the combat in SD rocked but I can understand someone not being used to it and wanting to use a gun. We are so conditioned to "shooting our way to victory" its weird when guns are not the primary combat option in games like this To be honest I found the gun combat in SD clunky and was glad when I could use my fists to beat respect into my various enemies

GFWL has never given me any major issues, I logon and it works? Same as Steam. To be honest with all these online DRM systems the only one that has been problematic is Uplay and that has only been slightly problematic where once I couldn't logon for 4 hours once. Guess I've been lucky

OMG is it just me or does that trailer look absolutely amazing !!! I need to play the first one before I attempt the sequel

Almost a quarter of men 'admit to rape in parts of Asia'
BruceVC replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
Thanks Walsie, both look like good reads. Especially the Berlin one -
Oh LadyC just to let you know one of options in GTA V is to play as a house cat that has to survive in the city against your typical urban challengers, like dogs and the SPCA who try to catch you and put you in captivity I BET now you interested in this game, am I right or am I right ????

The Appeal of Fantasy
BruceVC replied to mcmanusaur's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You know, I think I'll edit the poll to include an option along these lines. Noooooo...don't do that...don't you know that AGX is never right !!! -
Interesting, sounds healthy

No, I am saying that people will fill in whatever blanks that exist about EA and it's level of influence over decisions (content or otherwise) with whatever narrative they believe, and they will have the conviction to believe that their assessment is correct because of the mind's ability to convince itself that the deductions it makes must be reality. People make the snap judgments (despite not actually knowing any better) about comedians copying each other and how their personal experience with a heckler was enjoyable, so therefore all comedians copy each other and comedians enjoy hecklers because it makes for a fun show. They believe this because it makes sense in their reality, even if the comedians themselves state that neither are true. Look at anubite's post, who specifically calls out that while I'm an employee at BioWare, I'm not in the super secret meetings. Yet despite that, in the same post he speaks with a high degree of conviction that his own impressions of how reality is are quite likely correct (and possibly even moreso than my own understandings, despite me actually working for BioWare). Although, another interesting observation in this thread is the idea that, since my link made a reference to rape jokes and how the comedian can understand why someone doesn't like them, some people immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was a "social justice" issue. I suspect my employment with BioWare helped people come to this conclusion as well. I consider it another example of how the mind fills in the blanks in the ways that the observer expects them too. Typically, in my opinion, to reinforce one's perspective of reality. Alan I really admire the way you can debate a point and defend the company you work for. That's the way it should be especially when a company has accomplished so much and given so much entertainment to millions of people. I love the company I work at and take pride in what it has accomplished and if someone was making slanderous or unfair comments about it I would refute them. But to use an Internet colloquialism "haters will be haters". I have come to realize that with some people even when presented with irrefutable facts they won't change there opinion and will continue to be intransigent. Its like that article you posted about people who rationalize the facts instead of reasoning when clearly there view is wrong So why bother with some debates? Also the complete irony of all this "Bioware Bashing" is that I guarantee you that 90% of people who claim to dislike Bioware and say they betrayed the principles of RPG will be playing DA:I. And you know why? Its not because EA is some manipulative Western corporation that will fool people with some marketing charade that will cost millions of dollars its because DA:I is shaping up to be an amazing and very entertaining RPG...and in essence that's the point of why we participate on these forums. We play games so why wouldn't anyone not want to play DA:I

GB I thought Tommy was an Alsatian. I didn't realize he was a Rhodesian Ridgeback. My dad has had Ridgebacks for years. They are amazing dogs and brilliant watchdogs. But they can be sneaky and steal food, for example we once left a whole roast chicken out by the stove and came back to find....it had vanished

Almost a quarter of men 'admit to rape in parts of Asia'
BruceVC replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
In that context, a sexual assault or a physical assault against a woman can simply seen as the choice of which tool the perpetrator uses to achieve the goal of establishing power over his victim. I know I said I wasn't going to say anything more on this topic but you have eloquently posted what I was trying to explain through several posts, good one And why couldn't you just have said that without posting so many links? To be honest that was exactly what I thought I was saying. I thought it was obvious my overall point but it seems at times I don't explain my point coherently. Point taken for next time -
