For me : After E3 and the noticeable presence of all these female developers I am interested in if we will see certain changes in some games and what these changes will entail
-
I agree that demonizing the gaming industry to implement change wasn't necessarily the right approach, even if it achieved the desired results if you look at E3 People like Anita and Alexander followed a certain doctrine that has been misunderstood by many gamers and basically led to the creation of GG which in turn led to a period of consternation and acrimony where some gamers really felt they were being vilified. So you then had this 8 month " war" between some gamers and people who believe in SJ changes It wasn't necessary because many gamers do believe in these changes, so I feel a more softer approach would have been more effective. I know people will say things like " yes but people mustn't be so defensive ( in regards to the Alexander article and its impact ) " but end of the day there were white, male gamers who were offended and felt they were being targeted So from a SJ perspective we need to be aware of this and ask if forcing certain changes without them being accepted and understood is really the best way forward? That interview made me laugh, his daughter thinking the moms comments were sexist But this is more a case of just explaining what these words mean and when it is appropriate to use them. Comedians don't need to do comedy at universities, I don't blame them But I suppose there is some relevance to the question " can we make jokes about any topic and be surprised if we get criticized " ( for example in regards to Bruce Jenner ) ?

I find the left's fellation of Sanders to be pretty annoying but what? The article states he hates "mainstream" media as its directly in the pocket of corporations and (to quote him) “insults the intelligence of American citizens daily, and is even further removed from the reality of everyday life than the average politician.” How you can interpret that as a negative thing is beyond me. Baro you are a bright guy and I'm really glad we haven't had many debates on opposite sides but this is one area we disagree on. The role and or importance of Capitalism and the West When he says " mainstream " does he mean like CNN and FOX or does he mean smaller local media ?
-
Shady I have a bad feeling about him, I don't want you to be disappointed later You cannot vote for someone who hates the media...this means he doesn't understand how society operates

No. My issue is what I said it is. Is that there is no less and no more success than there was before. Yet they kept maligning the industry. Yeah they will disagree with facts. Which is exactly the problem. Its not a disagreement with the facts...its there subjective view Something else I find quite bizarre, there are at least 7 prominent gaming websites who have said similar things....yet you guys seem to think they are all going to just parrot the wrong information like they idiotic sheep. You need to give people more credit ...not everyone is as unethical and easily manipulated as you may think I think its less about ethics and more about incompetence. Also: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/our-humanity-naturally/201506/anti-intellectualism-is-killing-america The obsession with feelings over facts is killing America. Oerwinde please try to understand my next point, I do consider you a reasonable person who will admit he is wrong if the right evidence can be presented I reread that article and now I have additional clarity on what really happened and why the journalists made those comments Its true that last year was clearly a more successful year for female characters so I won't even deny that but this year you had a massive visible presence of gender equality at E3. All those female developers and even Ubisoft showing the game with a female character would have convinced anyone that the industry is really changing for the better and really adopting a progressive route No wonder this blew those journalists away..it is a good step. So they are mistaking the change at the E3 to suddenly " games this year are the most progressive " Be gentle, they meant well

I don't often disagree with Obama but he is reading too much into this...he was saying " Racism is tearing our Democracy apart" No, this is incorrect. This terrible incident was just another one in a long list that have been happening unfortunately in the USA over the last 10-15 years that involve mass killings caused by normally a lone gunman. It seemed to start with Columbine and sadly there is nothing you can really do to fix unless you tighten gun control which has been proven it can't be legally implemented as the NRA and there supporters keep blocking it The difference with this attack was it was purely race motivated and he only targeted one race. This actually surprises me that it hasn't happened before considering the current gun culture in the USA . We have had several of these in South Africa

States have strong identities in the US, no ? Definitely. They all have their own flags. Yeah, cute. But if the state and its people felt it was something part of their identity so not all that stupid. Interesting roadblocks they put up to stop it being taken down, though, well played. What did they say ?

Bruce did you read what the post said? The point is that the facts on the ground have demonstrably not changed. So all the words that have been coming out of their mouths then and now are evidently not based on facts but on whatever bs emotions swirling in their heads. Which just makes it about the quality of their reporting and what this says about the worth of their analysis and critiques. Ethics in games' journalism. Like, yeah, for real. How did you arrive from that to assuming anyone has issues with gender equality as a concept. Lets try to be honest...this is about gender equality. Your whole issue is with them exaggerating the "success " of female representation at E3 and that's an aspect of gender equality. And I'm not saying you are opposed to this And I can only explain this one more time, those journalists said " E3 2015 was the best year for female characters" , in there minds this was accurate and they will report this on there website and people will agree. Just because that link disputed this doesn't mean everyone will agree with it

Probably a good idea, whatever that flag stood for in the past, it just stands for racism. Even absent the connotations of racism, it's a flag celebrating treason. Okay then why does SC keep using it if so many people in the USA think its such a bad idea?

Witcher 3 - The women actually look like women.
BruceVC replied to luzarius's topic in Computer and Console
That's some mighty fine logic here, hard to find any arguments. Sarcasm? Perhaps I should have worded that better. "There weren't really any stunning women. Except Morrigan." Better now? I understood your point, you were referring to there attractiveness from a Romance perspective? I have to think any character is attractive to Romance them...like Isabela and Viconia -
I find it very difficult to have a reasonable conversation with you when you are so illogical

Ah, sorry if I came off as excessively snarky. I wasn't familiar with the idiom "segway" and one definition I found online was "non sequitur". I tend to insert my big bro sales pitch at every possible chance so I'm used to people lashing out with sarcasm. Wrong thread, bad post on my part

Sorry Volo but I never even hinted at you being responsible for flags being banned....so you have clearly misunderstood my point
-
No its not clear because you are ignoring context and the personal view, albeit wrong, of some gaming journalists They didn't lie if they felt this was the best year for female representation, you can say they are wrong like that link but you cannot say " they lied " It really shouldn't be such a contentious point..so what if this year was the year of the female character? What does that even translate to?

So sure the industry was sexist just a year ago and today it's "E3 belongs to the ladies we are not giving it back" to quote one journo personality. Except the numbers don't really add up dear snowflakes. /journalism Guys this is where you view concerns me, you guys start to see things like gender equality in a negative light and exaggerate its influence So what if some gaming journalists are using a little hyperbole....they see it as a victory after years of battle around inclusivity in the industry. Let them have there moment in the sun...there is no reason to feel threatened or insecure I

But come on Volo you know some flags and symbols are banned in certain countries, like the swastika. So banning a flag is not without precedent But the way some of the Southerners see it is they had family members who died and sacrificed themselves in the Civil War, so the Confederate flag is a tribute to there legacy. It really can have nothing to do with racism so I do see both sides It's possible that the manifesto isn't his but WHOIS says the domain was registered back in february. Could certainly be the handiwork of *chan trolls (hosted in Russia and registered under a proxy email). Smells funny, but I suppose that's to be expected. I'm still puzzled they haven't taken it down yet. Maybe being hosted overseas makes it difficult to pull the plug. No, I don't find it ironic, random people posting it on *chan illustrates precisely my point. If the mainstream media do what you suggest, people will go elsewhere for the juicy details. And then you'll get YouTube channels making monetised vids out of this stuff. I'm not against it in principle, I just don't see how it could be done. Fair enough. But there's still one level of barrier though. It requires active searching for those who are interested instead of it being broadcasted to millions. Personally I have no issue with this manifesto being in the public domain because then people can see just how dysfunctional this man was...and I am not even talking about the appalling ideological points he raises. Its full of egregious factual mistakes....the guy clearly wasn't very bright So the only people who will read it and think its clever and insightful would already be racist. Its not like it will convince new people to start a race war...surly people can't be that naive? Maybe i am too hungover to tell, but i didn't see any facts, only some personal anecdotes and opinions in the manifesto. Yes thats correct but then why are you worried this manifesto is easily available on the Internet...or did I misunderstand you ?
