  1. " Castro is one of the most remarkable politicians and leaders of the 20th century " ....dude you at least consistent with your criticism of the West, that's all I ask people like Zora. There is nothing wrong with having issues with the West, everyone is perfectly entitled to there opinion. Its irrelevant, inaccurate but understandable in your example But the depths of hyperbole ....Putin would be at least believable ?
  2. Nope, international heroes status point out towards the sea; to their land of birth. National heroes point towards inland. "The West won"...says the SJW, marxist, socialist person that believes himself a humanist. Would you prefer I lied and said " Communism prevailed as it was stronger ideology " And I have never claimed to be a SJW because that word gets abused...I am definitely not a Marxist I do believe in a form of socialism like our friends in Scandinavia and I am a humanist ...ask volo, he will confirm this
  3. That series is very popular in SA, did you enjoy it?
  4. I mean, we tend to view others through the lens of our existences and we apply our arbitrary standards. Maybe the general Cuban population is happy with their lives? I never hear of any rabble rousing down there. No "cracking down" by the government or stuff like that. They are never going to be a world player, or a powerhouse economy. Maybe things are fine as far as they are concerned? I am not sure if I mentioned to you but I am a collector of certain books on military history on certain topics I have a very good book about the Cubans and there involvement in Africa, I have to give them credit. They really believed in a world where there interpretation of socialism and equality would be the best outcome for a continent like Africa. http://nsarchive.gwu.edu/NSAEBB/NSAEBB67/
  5. Well you can say wanting to uplift yourself economically and buy nice things is " worshipping at the altar of economic growth " But the majority of people who live in abject poverty would see it as " making there lives comfortable and adding real meaning and or a sense of identity " It may sound exciting but being unsure where your next meal is coming from is .....unenviable
  6. Well this is a silly post .....do we now blame the president of a country for anyone there military kills ? Also its not historically accurate, the Cubans were involved for many years in various African conflicts including battling with the South African military in Angola. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_intervention_in_Angola
  7. There economy is weak and as I mentioned it had been subsidized for years by other countries When you say " good for Cubans " what do you mean?
  8. @ Baro, Namutree and others Can I ask you guys a serious question because I may be misunderstanding something When you guys talk about Cuba being a success why would you suggest that when the Cold War ended the ideological conflict of Capitalism vs Communism? The West won .....so surly that would indicate the ultimate failure of the Cuba social experiment ?
  9. Guys, Castros legacy is a failure.....the Cuban idea of socialism failed because it failed to sustain or grow the economy His legacy will be one of success. Success in what way?
  10. Guys, Castros legacy is a failure.....the Cuban idea of socialism failed because it failed to sustain or grow the economy The last 20 years or so Cuba was funded by certain South American countries like Venezuela under Chavez who were determined to use Cuba as some sort of adversary to the West ....but why would we consider Cuba a real enemy to the USA? Lets not believe some false narrative that Cuba was an economic success story
  11. Yes. The elites in Cuba have wanted to transition to a market economy (China style) for a while now, and have been waiting for Fidel to die. Now that he's gone, the US will be helping the Cuban elites make the transition. The only roadblock is that Trump won the election, making what was a done deal a little unclear. Even so, the plan will go forward, and Trump will take credit even though it's Obama who deserves it. What do you mean by a market economy in respects to Cuba? China is primarily an export driven economy but since Davos last year they are trying to restructure there economy to consumer driven, meaning the citizens of China will be the main buyers of goods like many Western countries
  12. You know I support the Democrats but I do think this recount is unnecessary, the only real opinion I heard about why this recount may be necessary is not from a politician but this professor....what do you think about his reasoning ? http://www.mediaite.com/online/probably-not-professor-at-center-of-election-hacking-report-says-cyberattack-not-likely/
  13. I was thinking about this whole recount debate, initially I thought its a waste of time and in a way hypocritical because many Democrats were horrified that Trump said " I wont accept the election result " I believe the election was fair and represented a better message from Trump ..thats why he won. But end of the day lets say Stein arranges this recount for some states it may be better for overall cohesion in the USA because then we can put to rest the accusation about rigging ?
  14. You raise a good point, I have always maintained that the Russians interfered in the US election but of course they not solely responsible for every " fake news " story that was circulated during the election Trumps intrinsic strategy created certain stories or rather just repeated past issues himself and these stories then grew and became relevant for many of his supporters The Russians played a part but I would say maybe 15 % of the overall hyperbole was because of them But as GD said to me once when I raised how Wikileaks\Russia was undermining Hilary was if she had less controversy because of her past then there would be less to criticize her about. So in other words in some examples Hilary was an easy target because of perceived and valid negative sentiment about her
  15. What? Of course it does. Don't encourage people to not achieve education. Well to be fair there are many people who dont have university degrees but become very successful But for me and where I work you cannot get into the majority of banks or financial institutions without some degree in finance. That applies to many other sectors in SA But I would never say that on a radio station because we have such a high failure rate of black South Africans who attend university. There will be different reasons for this but the Apartheid system intentionally did not want to educate any black South Africans and for decades many people had very little education and never went to varsity The contradiction thought is Apartheid ended in 1990 and from 1994 the ANC came to power...the current black students were born outside Apartheid so why are they doing so badly in the current reality of tertiary education in SA? Oh no, Im fine. Thanks for asking White South Africans like myself are use to that type of rhetoric from some people , we just ignore it But sometimes I think I make too many justifications for some behavior in SA ...anyway its hard to be critical of certain things in SA because of our past. Like when I wanted you guys to comment on that link where those populist politicians were saying " we want to slaughter whites for land " ....I am not sure sometimes when I should get offended
  16. This made me laugh There is some truth in the overall frivolous message, for example in some of the various radio talk show debates I engage in I tend to say things like " tertiary education is important and gives you advantage in corporate...but of course just because someone doesnt have a degree that doesnt make them less than someone who does " ( this is a just an example )
  17. No actual footage of him though? I realize it sounds like a crazy conspiracy-level thing, but: 1) This election sadly taught me that yeah, we've hit rock-bottom and you actually do have to give those the time of day. Still depressing to realized we've hit that low. 2) Even IF he turns out to be A-OK and this is just wild paranoia, it's alarming to me that so few people give attention to such an issue. Assange being captured or killed is not an absurd idea, so I would HOPE the general public is alert the moment something seems amiss. Instead it's just the Democrat establishment not learning a damned thing while many of the Trump supporters are now so high off their victory they view it as a license to be a **** and just spend their days trashing liberals and talking crap. Gee, didn't that lack of respect play a role in a recent politician losing an election...? Amazing to me how priorities seem so out of whack and human nature continues to disappoint. There's two instances of video that allegedly happens after the time where it's theorized wikileaks was compromised (people have dates ranging from October 3rd to October 24th). One I can't find but remember seeing, the other is an interview that was done via RT, which is now being scrutinized for very strange instances that imply some rather heavy editing tricks took place. There is such little concern about Assange because many people, like me, think of him with utter contempt and disdain He has been directly involved in trying to undermine the USA for years, and by proxy the West, and was one of the people who contributed towards interfering in the US elections by selectively releasing certain emails which made the Democrats look very bad. He is someone who has exacerbated this concerning reality we now grapple with where words like " post -truth " have become the Oxford word of 2016 http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/post-truth-oxford-dictionaries-word-year-2016-n685081 He needs to face the Swedish rape charges and then the fact he broke the conditions of his bail http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/wikileaks/9343630/Julian-Assange-faces-re-arrest-over-breaching-his-bail-condition-by-seeking-asylum-in-Ecuador.html What amazes me is how some of you guys still think he is some sort of " cyber-robin hood ", he is not. He is a criminal and someone who deserves the full weight of the law thrown at him when he is finally arrested...hopefully somehow by the US authorities
  18. Geez, I wonder if you right....that could be true. It would be a huge upset and very applicable Real spoiler is that mmmm.....its possible I suppoe But it seems unlikely, I do agree that there is an obvious attempt to not show any pictures of Arnold which means we will get shocked either way
  19. Your just jealous you don't get such great amounts of food It is true I do love any event or special day where there is loads of food
  20. I was watching this on CNN....its very concerning if true
  21. Yeah Happy Thanksgiving to all our American forum friends
  22. Thanks GD What type of food you eating and where you celebrating this year?
  23. Citation so ****ing needed. He was asked if he would accept results of the election, and he responded (rough quote) "I can't tell you now, I'll have to look at it at the time." Unless you've got some other interview or source I'm not aware of, don't blatantly misquote a guy to make him look bad. That's disgusting. If you've got one, share it. If you don't, get your misinformation out of here. I can't find it right now but there was some rally where he said he would only accept the results if he won. Here ya go: http://edition.cnn.com/2016/10/20/politics/donald-trump-i-will-totally-accept-election-results-if-i-win/ Yes he did say this but its clear now he didnt mean it, it was just another example of his populist strategy to win the election http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-38077422 Guys here is a story that asks an interesting question " are women less corrupt than men " . I think they are generally but the issue is complicated and nuanced and really requires context Anyway the link gives a good example of this
  24. Geez Gromnir, Im glad you okay
  25. Imaenoon isn't the easiest and most reasonable solution simply for Trump to refuse to accept the job as president and we make Hilary president in the interests of social and political cohesion ?
