  1. https://www.thebalance.com/universal-basic-income-4160668 Elerond here is a good link that discusses the feasibility of UBI, it includes examples of where their are pilot projects of limited UBI throughout the world including Finland For all the people in this debate who are saying " UBI can work " I would encourage them to read this article to understand the good and bad with this idea. Their is no country in the world that currently uses UBI in a comprehensive and widespread way yet so first question I would have is the logical and normal one which is " where has this been implemented before " ? But the link raises the advantages which are Workers could afford to wait for a better job or better wages People would have the freedom to return to school or stay home to care for a relative May help remove the "poverty trap" from traditional welfare programs Citizens could have simple, straightforward financial assistance that minimizes bureaucracy The government would spend less to administer the program than with traditional welfare Young couples would have more money to start families in countries with low birth rates The payments could help stabilize the economy during recessionary periods It also raises the disadvantages which are Inflation could be triggered because of the increase in demand for goods and services There won't be an increased standard of living in the long run because of inflated prices A reduced program with smaller payments won't make a real difference to poverty-stricken families Free income may not incentivize people to get jobs, and could make work seem optional Free income could perpetuate the falling labor force participation rate There are many opposed to handouts for the unemployed I am much more concerned with the disadvantages especially Inflation could be triggered because of the increase in demand for goods and services Free income may not incentivize people to get jobs, and could make work seem optional
  2. Yeah, its incredibly boring and repetitive but I have never enjoyed the long winded rhetoric of lawyers or people defending things like a Constitution. Its a good way to induce somnolence especially if you one of those people who battles to sleep I watch the highlights of these events and focus on the final outcome but the endless speeches and grandstanding I have no appetite for
  3. When I read these types of comments I almost feel like a father watching his child take its first step, I am proud of you my son. Well done HoonDing, its almost cathartic to accept the truth. But the USA didnt cause Communism to fail. It imploded on itself because it is based on a fundamentally flawed system of government and sustainable economic transformation. The collapse of the USSR as it was bankrupt is testimony to that historical fact The likes of the USA just continues to ensure the world doesnt have to go through another 50 years of another failed social experiment that leads to one thing only...people becoming poorer and more inequality
  4. I never knew that about the Spanish Flu, that is interesting news. Are you sure it became less infectious and or deadly ? Some possible good news around these variations then
  5. Funny you mention that but that is exactly one of the risks and concerns I have with UBI, I have no doubt this will be exactly what some people will do once on UBI Good observation 2133, I agree 100 %
  6. You are truly incorrigible....I can help you but first I need to know if you feel any compunction. Then I need to know how sorry you feel and are you prepared to embark on the road of absolution?
  7. Comrade please dont misunderstand me, I am not blaming the console crowd on the shortfalls and performance issues experienced with the initial release of the game That would be silly and unreasonable because the console crowd didnt create the game, CDPR are the developers I am holding the console crowd responsible for the overreaction to certain issues that will be fixed. The share price was effected by this overreaction which is never a good thing for a listed company. Thankfully this will recover but as you know CDPR is getting sued by lawyers representing primarily the console crowd So that is why I am blaming them, its the unnecessary and egregious overreaction
  8. I just saw this now, it was really funny and cute ....who doesnt find cats cute
  9. You right, its not all society. People who expect this are mostly well meaning but they put unnecessary pressure on SM companies and you inevitably get the results like what happened to that Polish historically true link and information
  10. Kassler Rib is great, I eat it with Pineapple and because its smoked its quick to prepare and eat
  11. Tonight I am treating myself to another mini-Pork Belly.....the pandemic and lockdown has made get really excited about things and food experiences that I use to just enjoy but I took for granted as " they will always be available " Sometimes in life the small, seemingly inconsequential , things matter
  12. Great cooking tips, keep them coming
  13. But one of the most effective ways to sustain and ensure any economy is strong is known as a consumer driven economy which is a huge factor in driving GDP. The point makes sense as basically it involves people having jobs and spending money internally within the country. This is a huge part of the USA economic strength and one I personally believe makes logical economic sense So when you say consumption economy what do you mean? Do you mean the same as consumer spending and what is your concern Here is a good link that summarizes the advantages of a consumer driven economy https://www.thebalance.com/consumer-spending-definition-and-determinants-3305917
  14. Companies nowadays are strongly advised to not negotiate with cyber-criminals who use the likes of Ransomware to try to blackmail these companies and demand money because their are examples of these cyber-criminals still not releasing the encryption keys even when paid In SA I worked at a major insurance company that was a victim of Ransomware and they simply refused to pay and had to restore the data and accept some reputational damage So you dont negotiate as its no guarantee you will have your data accessible again
  15. I dont think people have any kind of real emotional connection with Capitalism, many of us work and exist due to institutions that are intrinsically part of the Capitalist system. Its works and their is historical precedent to confirm this, we are aware their are issues with the free market but its a better option than other systems
  16. I would add to this post you cannot legislate sustainable economic transformation or address inequality in a meaningful way through government interference and policy Economic transformation can only really be achieved through laws and policies that allow business to operate in an environment where it can flourish and not be forced to do certain things. Well meaning concepts like UBI are just a short term fix and can lead to real problems in the long term where some citizens will now have less interest or appetite to work and contribute towards the tax base
  17. Nah, I would say platitudes about Communism and Socialism being viable systems of working governments are way, way overdone
  18. Thanks for sharing, this is the same as your successful University funding program I wish SA had the resources, governance, citizen support and political will to do the same as Finland as our overall society would be much better.
  19. Dont believe anything negative about CDPR 2133, its all fake news and console people who hate the success of the company and dont want to understand that sometimes mistakes happen with the releases of new games
  20. You make some good points as usual on this topic , in the example of Finland what type of homes does the state provide? Are they 1 bedroom, for example, and does the Finnish state pay for rates and electricity and other services and how does a homeless person qualify for a state sponsored home ?
  21. I think this example is what happens when society expects SM platforms to become the judge and jury of what is acceptable content and what is considered offensive comments or hate speech We should not be asking SM companies to police what people post. The exceptions to this is very rare examples like the banning of Trump after the Capitol violence because Trump abused various SM platforms and even though I support this its still controversial
  22. This definitely doesn't make sense and appears to be unreasonable censorship from FB I couldn't find the reason in the article why FB blocked this information, what was their reason because these types of historical truths need to be raised and discussed freely on any platform that believes in freedom of speech where appropriate
  23. Why do you think bacon is bad for dogs, its meat and dogs love meat? Gromnir dont let these far left California liberals convince you that meat is bad for dogs.....next thing you will see a Vegan movement for dogs and people like Hurlshot will be suggesting its a human rights issue if you feed your dog meat
  24. Elerond the issue of how to help the homeless is a global problem that most countries grapple with and you always end up balancing the human rights precedent with the economic reality We have this societal problem in SA as well and its particularly bad in Cpt, worse than JHB actually. What I have realized over the last 20 months is that some homeless people make a choice for a variety of reasons to decide to stay on the streets. You cant help them in the same way that you can help other homeless people and you dont want to waste time and resources on those homeless people
  25. No thats completely inaccurate, the majority of oil companies are global, private sector companies that are listed companies and arent owned by any state ...so you very mistaken
