The TV and Streaming Thread: Now up for syndication...
I am watching some excellent series at the moment, they include American Rust : Set in the Rust Belt in Pennsylvania where a chief of police, Jeff Daniels, takes on an investigation when the son of the woman he loves is accused of murder. Much deeper than that synopsis with all the interesting characters Blue Bloods: A realistic cop show on season 11 where the police are not all racist and make a difference in lives of NY citizens. It also incorporates the unfair generalizations and public sentiment that many police face in the US at the moment Time : A UK show about an alcoholic teacher who is involved in a DUI and kills an innocent person and is sent to a UK jail.So its an illuminating view of life in UK jails and a persons journey to find absolution and a semblance of forgiveness ....if possible SWAT : A good action cop show Dexter, New Blood: The new Dexter is excellent and I am enjoying it more than the previous series

I completed Bioshock Infinite, it took me 20 hours so its not a long game but a very entertaining one and the narrative is compelling and unexpected. I was confused at the end but I read up on what it all means and it makes sense I will consider other Bioshock games because this one was fun and it scores a solid 65\100 on the globally acclaimed " BruceVC game rating system " which means its fine for anyone to purchase ....only scores lower than 50\100 are not worth anyone playing or should be more considered before purchasing

The All Things Political Topic - All people love themselves too much to be changed by something as simple as love.
Oh, I see. That is serious and concerning, has this happened before where someone hasnt been hired and the reason given is "they LGBT" I dont think you need actual examples to be concerned with the impact with this type of legislation but I am interested ?

Okay thanks for explaining and I can see the potential abuse But I still need to understand something, so are you saying that under this new law you as Gorth can do the following On your FB profile you are understandably able to say " Im a Christian and support Christian values" : Nothing wrong with that However on that same profile you say " I dont support LGBT rights due to religious reasons " : This is wrong and contrary to general human rights laws but I am not sure if this can be classified as hate speech or is illegal in Oz? Now you have a company and you decide to not hire someone because they LGBT: This is wrong and is discrimination according to Oz human rights laws ? But how would we know you are not hiring someone because they LGBT because the law says " but only if those statements do not "threaten, intimidate, harass or vilify a person or group" So surely if you publically dont hire someone because they gay that is illegal and not what this law is about ? And if you dont need to give the exact reason for not hiring them how can we say with certainty its because they LGBT ? Im genuinely confused by what this law will enable because I am looking for practical examples of how LGBT will be discriminated against because I see religious freedom as different to laws around human rights

I have been ruminating on your question and after careful consideration I would rather kiss an angry crocodile because if I swallow a scorpion it can easily sting me in the mouth or throat and I would die but I could possibly avoid a crocodile snapping at me if I kissed it. And I assume in the analogous sense the Democrats are the scorpion and the GOP the crocodile....tell me I got it right GD

What You've Done Today - But you… have elected… the way of… pain!
That kind of promotion is never a good thing because how do you motivate further advancement if you doing less work? You should look for another job because this is not something that I would consider progressive for your career

We must always be aware of any new insidious laws that target LGBT that are more common in certain countries, like Russia and several African countries, than we may realize . But I am confused how this particular bill is homophobic? The article mentions "legislation would protect people who express their religious faith outside of the workplace as long as it did not cause financial damage to their employer "....so this is a good thing as we should be able to be say " Im a Christian or Im a Muslim " without discrimination right? The article clearly frames it like that but then it says "it would enable discrimination against gay students and teachers as it permits prioritising the hiring and enrolment of people based on faith" But why cant you be LGBT and Christian and then the article states "Morrison said the legislation would also protect Australians who make "statements of belief" from discrimination laws, but only if those statements do not "threaten, intimidate, harass or vilify a person or group". So in other words this should protect LGBT because he is clearly stating " you can be openly religious but you cant discriminate " So Im not understanding what the concern is because the article is ambiguous?

Great post Kanie and it summarizes my point earlier, I can understand Wormies concern about " innovation" but sometimes this type of expectation is not practical, realistic and nebulous But that doesnt mean we shouldnt expect and demand exciting and entertaining games 💻

Good question and yes inflation is caused by several factors but SA inflation has been more or less consistent for the last 10 years between 4-5 %. I consider high inflation to be one of the worst economic realities for any country which is why most Central Banks\Reserve Banks\Federal Reserve have " inflation targeting " as one of their primary mandates. We dont negotiate our increases as they set on inflation and you work towards your end of year bonus or commission target as your main incentive. But lets say you want to negotiate a better raise than inflation then you need to justify your revenue stream with your boss and what you bring in which is hard to do in certain jobs where you cant calculate your personal contribution like someone working in a factory, these types of workers dont have a target for example But as a consultant I can calculate my hourly billing and I know exactly what I contribute and what customers I work on and how we benefit from yearly software renewals and projects because of the work I do. And this matters because back in the day in JHB, 2 years ago, where I was well paid I worked at several banks and because I specialize in financial software the companies I worked for recognised these important customers and kept people like me happy So to answer your questions, yes its done yearly in listed companies and you right you cant predict inflation exactly so your increase is normally 4-5% depending on current SA inflation because the core objective with most salary increases is your salary increase should be enough to assume you dont lose money due to inflation But everyone works towards a bonus assuming the company makes its yearly target. I hope this makes sense?

Yes that is unfair because of inflation costs, in SA your increase is based on inflation so your increase should be equal to that at least

Then I have an issue with their complaints because they were paid to work those long hours and this is not as egregious as some may think

I hear you and I think their is some validity to the view " their is very little innovation " but on the other hand you know the old adage " if its not broken, why fix it " In other words we have had so many excellent and varied games over the last 10-15 years its hard to think of something truly revolutionary that we have not seen before so you could argue " very few things can be innovative under the current circumstances of technological advancement " I know the article mentions Disco as revolutionary but I found it fun with excellent writing but I didn't even finish it because the non-fantasy setting bored me

What are you Playing Now? Games = Life
I didnt realize the games were connected, I have been reading all the lore in the game I can find so I am familiar with the history in Infinite so far but certain things I am learning as the game progresses but yes I realize now playing the earlier games would have been beneficial to understand the game world And thanks for the advice because I may just do that if I play the DLC but we have some excellent new games coming next year like Elden Ring and Dying Light 2 and of course my most anticipated game once fully released BG 3

Interesting story, I wonder if they were paid overtime for the 80 hour week? Because then they were remunerated for the effort but if not then the company is being unreasonable offering them only a 3% increase after all that work ?

Coronavirus 666: The Number of the Delta Variant (but in an entirely scientific context)
Okay, thanks for clarifying But there is one difference between the latest main variants. With Delta the majority of hospitalizations globally were unvaccinated up to 90-95 %. We are seeing 25%, more or less, of vaccinated people in hospital but its not for severe conditions requiring a ventilator but rather just oxygen which is not as serious So I would say that is unexpected. But as usual its early days and data may be updated and change

https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/its-been-a-great-year-for-rpgs-if-you-hate-and-fear-the-new/ Here is an interesting read from the reputable PCGamer, I agree with most of it even if it is a little negative about the fact many games released in 2021 are re-released or remastered
