  1. 10 dollars on "you don't get headshots even though you are trying to aim at the head aka rpg mechanics" Agreed. That argument is irritating beyond belief. Many of those who are making that argument also seem to believe that being able to carry a 30 pound sniper rifle, 20-25 pound LMG, ammo for both, frag/flash grenades, body armor, and com equipment while being capable of firing a single round from the hip and smoking a target in the head at 125 yards while running at top speed is "realistic". Not to mention a trio of rounds from an M-16 to the chest being less lethal than a random knife hit to a limb or one-handing aforementioned LMG or sniper rifle while using the said knife. I've said this elsewhere on these boards, but I feel many of the shooting mechanics in AP take into account mistakes that can be made when shooting in real life. I'm an avid pistol and rifle shooter, however my having the sights on a target does not guarentee a hit. I could snatch the trigger, flinch, or any number of little mistakes that translate into a clean miss. And this is standing still on a range with no bullets flying in my direction. Add in the stress of being in a gunfight, movement, etc, and you've got a recipe for making misses unless you spend a LOT of time training and practicing.
  2. This is probably my favorite game. I've bought other games in the last couple months (Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and a couple others) but I keep coming back to AP. I will say that the only really frustrating things I've encountered are laggy gameplay (very likely my computer's fault. It's a low-mid range laptop, not a dedicated gaming rig) and a pain in the *** bug during one of the missions (see the PC Support forum for details. It broke the game for myself and others... literally.)
  3. Has the issue been patched yet or are we still having to rely on winkle? (Not that I'm unappreciative.)
  4. Albatross- 25 Conrad Marburg- 0 (-1) *ties marburg to his bombs and pushes the button* Henry Leland -19 You're next you corporate ***** Konstantin Brayko- 17 Omen Deng- 27 SIE- 28 (+1) Not just a cougar, but a cougar with an M60 FTW Scarlet Lake- 27 Sis- 27 Steven Heck- 21 STILL waiting for deails on Operaton: YEEEEEAAAAHHHH!!
  5. I'm on my second playthrough but I'm the type to rarely rely on gadgets. The only exceptions are first aid, regular 'nades and incindiary 'nades. I found that the nades helped me out when defending Surkov and again when assaulting Brayko's mansion. To deal with Brayko, I chainshot him with pistol, switched to SMGs with bullet storm and kept spraying him til the cool down timer on chainshot ran out. Rinse and repeat. My only bitch is that I'm a stealth-oriented player and using many of the gadgets seem to blow your cover faster than firing an un-suppressed pistol shot.
  6. Albatross- 22 Conrad Marburg- 7 (-1) For being a complete asshat. Henry Leland- 19 Konstantin Brayko- 17 Omen Deng- 26 SIE- 26 (+1) "Michael needs someone who can help him, little girl. You, not so much." (said to Mina during the embassy mission) Sis- 27 Steven Heck- 21
  7. One thing that I've noticed is that early on a stealth approach using a knife is more reliable/faster than waiting for the headshot with a pistol/AR until I can get the proper skill points invested in weapons skills.
  8. Alan Parker- 6 Albatross- 16 Ali Shaheed- 6 (-1) Real tough guy, blowing up a civvy airliner. Conrad Marburg- 10 Grigori Pazinhov- 3 Henry Leland- 11 Hong Shi- 11 Konstantin Brayko- 14 Mina Tang- 8 Omen Deng- 18 Ronald Sung- 6 SIE- 18 (+1) She can ravage me while I'm tied to a gurney any time she wants. It's not rape if you're willing. Scarlet Lake- 19 Sis- 21 Steven Heck- 19 Yancy Westridge- 3
  9. I have a habit of playing unfamiliar games on easy on my first run so I can get used to the controls, mechanics, etc. As for this being an espionage RPG; RL espionage is akin to digging through a steaming bucket of **** and trying to find a diamond and I'm sure there are people who would find such a game boring, hence the action movie feel of AP.
  10. Oh, i'd be pissed if that happened to me :/ Believe me I was ready to give even sociopath Mike a run for his money when it first happened, lol. I'm considering getting the console version (360) just so I won't have to wait for a patch, but having a part-time 8.00/hr job limits my finances as I have to fix some things on my truck; transmission, hanging strap for gas tank, shocks, oil change, new gasket for oil pan, new spark plugs/distributor cap/rotor, etc.
  11. I haven't tried using G22 as my final handler, but I've heard you can get Sis to help you out at the very end if you pick Albatross to be your handler. I'm doing my "kill everybody" play through right now, so Sis was executed & is only helping the fishes now. I know about Sis freeing you from the infirmary in the Alpha Protocol compound by reading spoilers. I meant having her fighting side-by-side with you. Despite her revolvers requiring her to reload every 10 seconds or so, she can really tear **** up in a hurry. Of course my "dream team" for an all-out fight is SIE, Heck, and Sis with me ghosting around and stabbing people in the neck while they're pinned down...
  12. Alan Parker- 9 Albatross- 11 Ali Shaheed- 10 Conrad Marburg- 10 Grigori Pazinhov- 7 Henry Leland- 9 (-1) (Overconfident prick) Hong Shi- 11 Konstantin Brayko- 13 (Don't be feeling too comfortable with me around, scum bag...) Mina Tang- 9 Omen Deng- 15 Ronald Sung- 9 SIE- 14 (+1) (crazy cougar with an M60 FTW) Scarlet Lake- 16 *dumps Sean Darcy's body the desert for the buzzards to pick at* Sergei Surkov- 7 Sis- 16 ("Jailbait: Because if you don't hit it, someone else will") Steven Heck- 15 (I need a detailed AAR [after action report] of Operation YEAAAAAAH!!!) Yancy Westridge- 7
  13. What needs to be fixed there? When trying to ID one of the guards outside the chateau the game completely freezes for some of us. You can zoom in/out and the scope's crosshairs stay locked on the target's head. Can't move away, can't shoot, etc. All it does is give you the guy's name and that's it. I believe Tigranes and another person is helping us get past that part in the PC Support forum.
  14. I'll have to try that. Right now I'm bouncing between Moscow and Taipei because I felt like being a bit random. Update: I tried rebooting and it still bugged out on me so... save file. razgriz_1400.zip
  15. As long as they have a fix for the Chateau misssion in Rome, I'll be happy...
  16. I'm still on my first playthrough but I'm using a stealth build with a high pistol rating because chainshot has saved my *** on several occasions in close quarters. Strangely my pistol is only for when I can't get close enough to use a melee takedown and I only have 5 points or so in martial arts. As for my secondary weapon, I bounce between the assault rifle and SMGs depending on if I'm in a wide open map (like most of the Saudi missions) or if I'm in a close quaters map (Lazo's yacht). I have maybe 3-4 points in SMG/Rifle and a couple points with sabotage, tech, and toughness. Also I feel like I'm a bit weird in that when I have the choice between G22 and VCI as my allies I usually pick the VCI because I feel I'm stealthy as hell on my own but if I've got a fight on my hands, I'd rather have SIE backing me up than Albatross: when the **** hits the fan a crazy chick with an M60 trumps a guy who sits in the shadows and observes, IMO. If one could have Sis as backup, I might change my mind, though.
  17. Why is everyone complaining about the AI? Do you like MGS? If so, then I find the AI of the MGS series (1-3, have yet to play 4) to be completely retarded. A cardboard box moving around on its own or in a place where a box doesn't belong? Just ignore it. Shoot them in the arm with a tranq dart but they don't see the shooter? "Huh... must be my imagination... *THUD*" Until MGS 3, trying to do something other than stealth was a massive pain. I can keep going. I don't consider myself an AP fanboy since I was getting ****ed off every time it got delayed and was a bit disappointed with its apparent lack of polish, but to call the game worthless is a stretch. If you don't like it, that's fine, just try not to malign the publisher for not turning out the next Halo or something.
  18. You can also buy a silence for the pistol and mix it up a little. I was referring to hand-to-hand combat, but a suppressed pistol is a must, IMO. Even when not running a stealth build, a suppressed pistol is a useful thing to have. Your milage may vary, however.
  19. If you're using default key-mapping the "Z" key should bring up your skill menu. Beyond that, I'm a complete PC gaming n00b so I'll defer to the experts on any technical issues.
  20. Alpha Protocol focuses on the paramilitary side of the espionage house. But think about it. Real espionage is akin to digging through a pile of **** and trying to find a diamond; pretty much what Parker does. Many people would find that boring, hence the emphasis on field work. At least that's how I see it. As for reptitive (sp?) takedowns... there are only a handful of ways to KO/Kill and enemy without making a ****load of noise, so being reptitive (sp?) is unavoidable.
  21. I'll have to try that. Right now I'm bouncing between Moscow and Taipei because I felt like being a bit random.
  22. Regarding the UC .50: there is a cartridge out there that is .50 cal and doesn't require a huge pistol like the Deagle. It's the .50 GI made by Guncrafter Industires; bascically it's a typical .45 round fattened up to .50 caliber and will fit in any pistol frame big enough for the .45. Not exactly an efficient design, though. I would have liked to have seen the Samael 9mm look more like the Israeli Jericho 941 (aka Baby Eagle) instead of the Five-seveN pistol, but that's just me being nitpicky. As you can tell, I'm a bit of a gun nut, and not ashamed to admit it.
  23. Another question and if it's been asked already I apologze, but is there a patch in the works that will fix this glitch?
