  1. I was just going to pick up Endless Space in the sale. Alas, steam keeps hanging on the purchase point and checking payment details. I guess I'll see how it fairs in the morning.

  3. You have more headaches than anyone I ever heard of. You have a brain tumor. Eh, it's a family thing. I'm just glad I deal with headaches, not the migraines some of the family deal with.
  4. SR2 had that weird thing in that the storyline made sense, and you had some moments of outright grim nastiness reminding you just what a vicious environment gangs can be.. and then it wrapped it all up in that arc of sillyness and juvinile behaviour that brought you away from it and made it incredibly silly fun. SR3 had a story that was more silly and didn't "fit" into a real world as such, but was generally entertaining.
  5. Spent half the morning in bed with a headache, but decided to try pushing through the day on a fresh cup of tea,..
  6. Bonham Carter has limited screen time. It's like 10 minutes in a movie thats in excess of 2 hours...
  7. The Lone Ranger. It's.. not as bad as a lot of reviews are saying, but it's not that great either. It seems to be trying to tell two different stories and bouncing wildly between them. One moment its all nasty white man and native american's being butchered and that gritty western style, then its bouncing fun action sequence and wild west superhero.. It's also a wee bit long, then a wee bit silly, a tad violent, a bit grim, a wee bit long, then some more silly. Then it has some odd mystical overtones that shut down and you're left wondering if its meant to actually be mysticness or just Tonto's bat**** crazy. Yes, Depp's Tonto is totally cracked and bizarre, but there's a solid plot reason for it, and all the other Commanche in the film are actually quite good and they all think Tonto is utterly cracked and bat**** crazy. It feels like it takes about a third of the film before we actually get the Lone Ranger, so that feels a touch drawn out and probably relates to why it ends up a long ass film. But it also has some rather nice action sequences, and when in the last twenty minutes the old music starts up and the WIlliam tell overture starts playing.. that's certainly a rollicking piece of horse stunts and train action, sixgun shooting and that mix of action-comedy merging together.
  8. C'mon, Saints Row trailer with Keith David just rocks so many humour buttons that I want to play it. The trouble with the GTAV trailer is that it presents what looks like a really nice technical open world to roam around in, with some nice gameplay ideas.. but I'm getting no real feel of soul from the game that makes me go "Yeah, I want to sink hours into this". GTA is hitting those "oh, that looks interesting, but apart from the technical shiny, I'll wait for the sales rather then preorder" buttons.
  9. Heh, one of my friends jogs and I tried joining him. What i found out is that his "jogging" is actually full on running for 3 miles. By the time I hit the 1.5 mile mark, I found my vision tunneling down to pin pricks. Oxygen starvation is certainly interesting. And yeah, definitely not up to that pace.
  10. Lets just say someone has loaded that magazine in a very.. unusual manner.
  11. Hm, John Ringo's just done a zombie apocalypse style book. Starts out around the one family as they attempt to bug out, end up heading out to sea, then start forming an organisation to rescue other survivors with the goal of dealing with the zombies and retaking the world as they know it.. But that isn't quite an official organization with investigation aspects. More survival and rebuilding.
  12. Sleeping Dogs was good for the atmosphere of the setting and the story. The martial arts combat was also entertaining, but the rest of the mechanics and game play tended to be so so. Good fun, and one that would be interesting to see a sequel to. GTA had fun elements up to a point. I have to admit I reached a point in GTAIV where I couldn't push myself forward. I stopped playing it for about a year and when I wen tback.. yeah, just couldn't find the will to push ahead anymore. Something about it just wasn't engaging or fun to me. Saints Row (2 & 3).. juvenile crazy. But really quite entertaining if you can get into that mindset. Take none of it seriously and just have a blast.
  13. I never had any problems playing Saints Row 2 on pc, had a lot of fun with it in general.
  14. Oh no Anita Blake has a mixed group that builds up over time, but its ALL about the protagonist and goes a wee bit more porn like at various stages of the series. It's got its guilty pleasure aspect of supernatural urban fantasy / murder aspects and some entertaining characters, but I would never characterise it as a pure group thing. I think the trouble with looking for a book series is that publishers like a defined Protagonist. They might be involved in a group, but they nearly always have to be that solo figure doing the majority of the angst and involved in the storyline. Hm, in a sense the Honor Harrington series evolves into group efforts , as the characters that started out as crewmembers under a central protagonist evolve and reach their own positions of command within the Royal Manticoran Navy. So stories start developing with multiple points of view and actions happening across a galaxy as they try to deal with various threats to their "country". I think if you're looking at books rather then comics, you're more likely to find series that might have a strong protagonist role who just happens to have a supporting group of characters around them. WIth the occasional spin off story that follows one of those supporting characters. I think there are a few Urban Fantasy series that do that, although a fair few mix in elements of romance so ...
  15. I have to admit, it's always kind of nice to see new content and a potential new companion.. but I'm still having a wtf over there being an Ewok companion. They're going to have to come up with one hell of a good story reason to make any potential scrap of sense. I mean, 5000 years before they were a primitive tribal society using basic wood & stone tools, there's an ewok capable of handling blasters and star wars sci-fi equipment roaming the stars? I can understand the theory that if you were able to go back 5,000 years to some early Egyptian and grabbed him, you could potentially educate him in modern tech because it's not like he's stupid. But if you went to the people 5,000 years before the stone age, it would be a touch more complicated...

    Ah-hem...
  18. Trying to focus on some Gantt Chart practice and poking around on some UML. A little fuzzy headed and headachey for some reason, not sure if that's just the heat. Also sorting some of the things out with my sister moving home and buying her first place.
  19. Well, it does beg the question of just what is the oldest profession.. warrior, prostitute, or politician.... Although some would say the last two are quite similar.
  20. Is a cool film either way. Indeed. They had the guy who wrote Buckaroo Banzaii rewrite the script, and he used elements that he had planned for the Banzaii sequel in it.
  21. There's stupid, and then there's this...
  22. Mom had to go into the doctors today, now they're insisting she have an eyecheckup or she might have to lose her driving license. Thats going to hammer one of her methods of independence if it gets worse.
  23. Big Trouble in Little China. Try watching it as if Jack Burton is actually the comic sidekick, not the main protagonist...
