Another "old" callback... Brotherhood of the Wolf Blu-ray Review: French Martial Arts Monster Movie (gizmodo.com) "There’s so much going on, Brotherhood of the Wolf should be an absolute mess, but the film has such complete confidence in itself that it works—again, as if a historical epic/martial arts flick/conspiracy thriller/romance/mystery/monster movie set in 18th-century France is the most natural genre in the world." A darn good atmospheric soundtrack as well if I recall.

Semi-political, but this might amuse some of the lawyers in the audience...

It's more lightly amusing how things get framed. As mentioned, puritan came in a few varieties back in the day. But yes, puritans as a whole tend to be painted with more of an extremist edge in school over here. While it isn't a huge point made, it is briefly covered that one of the key issues to puritans leaving the rolling green shores of England to head to the new world was in part because how stressed they were getting over all the religious tolerance laws that were being put in place. Not that they were universally tolerant laws, but more an attempt to tone down the various protestant/catholic squabbles and just happened to cover a few other areas. But it's like anything taught. You get "one key element" and then they skim over a bunch of the other elements.

Edit: Although I suppose the actual funny is that apparently the line in the script was written in English, and no-one really thought about the fact that Hiddleston can speak fluent Latin and classical Greek. He stood up and just did the lines in Latin, and the director thought it was great and rolled with it.
