  1. Again I say; if the biggest issue your game has is the highlights around objects, you hit the jackpot. It is such an irrelevant aspect that I don't know why there is so much focus on it.
  2. Holding my breath for a Blasto the Hanar spectre, game. I don't generally get too into the Bio-bashing around here, but it would fit the Bio pattern of fan-service catering if what started as a forum joke rose past "amusing comic-relief cameo" to stand-alone product. I would really love if they did something that would incite something other than bashing, but have lost themselves. Although I have to say that ME could be a worse game, I just don't agree with the logic of having a extremely detailed universe that rivals established Sci-Fi IPs and treat your story as a Saturday morning cartoon. But they have established consistence between these 2 games and i'm expecting 3 to be along those lines.

  4. could it have anything to do with Crysis 2 coming out?
  5. What? I'm not complaining about anything. That's my job. Would you say that the inability to water plants will destroy the experience for you?
  6. No. I like the idea of being able to interact with everything, but in reality it's pretty pointless. In Deus Ex 1, you pretty much could. It was the point of the gameplay, a completely reactive envirment. You misunderstand. I'm talking about junk items that serve no real purpose. Things that once picked up you either drop them or throw them, liked potted plants and trophies, or things like phones which make a noise when used but have no purpose at all. In DX you walk into a room, there are 5 objects, and all of them can be interacted with in some manner though only 2 or 3 have any real use. In DXHR you walk into a room, there are 50 objects, but only 2 or 3 can be interacted with. Take this shot for instance, ignoring the man who is about to get stabbed by mean old Jensen, you can probably only interact with the gun and the computer, and the rest of the clutter is non-interactive scenery. If this was DX1, you could probably also interact with the potted plant, the recycling bin, and the phone, but together those 5 things would be the only items in the room. DX was never about being able to pick up anything that isn't nailed down. It's not a Bethesda RPG. So your biggest complaint is that you can't water the plants?
  7. too bad 2/3 of a nearly great game don't make a good game your review actually cemented my decision to not bother with this game. sounds like KOTOR 2 Bio style. only with bad writing and some weak characters I find the comparison unfair. KOTOR 2 was better.
  8. If only they would.
  9. Yesterday I watched The fighter and Unstoppable both great films
  10. So BIO writing transcends regular classification?
  11. Good examples too, just spoke the one most recent. I specially liked System Shock 2, no surprise there. Thief on the other hand I could do without the slow gameplay, although I once I got past that I saw what everyone was talking about.
  12. I agree, I believe it's mostly because despite all the strides forward gameplay remains at the forefront. Which is why I believe that the great undermined gameplay should be the focus of storytelling, a great example of this would be Bioshock. Only 2 major cinematics, the rest was experienced through the character's eyes and it is still one of the most well crafted universes in gaming. We basically got all the finer points their interpretation of Objectivism through gameplay, with minimal use of cinematics and infodumping.
  13. Not just through writing, though largely ignored because of mind frames gameplay also requires writing. Games after all an interactive medium, it should be on the writer's mind what the player feels after taking out 200 guys without remorse and how to use that to create a cathartic response. A la Metal Gear Solid.
  14. To be honest after 2 shots of whiskey i'm a little bit tipsy, which it's probably why I got enough courage to do this. After a recent (the last 2 hours) self reflection I've been wondering about the need for a human connection and how that relates to internet posting. I feel a sense of community in here, people I know and may agree or disagree with, people we've lost, and this place allows me for an outlet that my ordinary life doesn't. We are social creatures; even when isolated, we validate ourselves through the reflections of others and I ask myself why do others keep coming here? Now I ask you, why do you keep posting on the net?
  15. Hauer ad-libbed the last few sentences of that sequence. But that was for soundtrack purposes, the song was awesome. Vangelis FTW. Morgoth, get in here and defend your avatar.
  16. I barely noticed the boxes that were highlighted.
  17. You are actually assuming that ME writers can scrounge 2 neurons together to come up with a plausible plot. BTW that sounds like something straight out of the boards.
  18. Blade Runner had an excellent story called "Do Androids dream of electric sheep" I don't know what you are talking about.
  19. To be the voice of the cynic... Game journalist are often untrustworthy, since their reviews exalt games which often don't deserve praise and they downplay the flaws to the point where it's 90%, 7% conclusion, 3% critique. The few that I could trust are all gone now, so I've have to go by my own research rather than critics. That said I would agree that the graphics are great.
  20. 1-I'm not even in the game industry and I feel the same it seem that the medium has matured faster than the companies handling it 2-Thanks for your answer, I'm just trying to grasp anything to keep me in the run. After our "Intro to Game Development" class, where hopes, dreams and expectations are shattered by a rude awakening I need something to keep me motivated. I can work through bad projects, I can put up with long work hours and high stress environments. But what I need to know is, if there is room for self improvement? Is talent appreciated and rewarded and put in a position where it can actually shine? I'm sorry if i'm bothering you, I'll try not to put you in a position where you have to break your NDA or you feel uncomfortable. But I would really like to get a "feel" of what expects me and most of what I've seen it's game related and not development related.
  21. To be fair it was PS3 graphics, I'm expecting PC to run much higher. Does anyone knows if the port will support Gamepad?
  22. I'm very sorry, I hope you can understand that I cannot - despite wanting to. Can we ask why you can't? NDA's and not wanting to be blacklisted. Also, its a bit like dishing the dirt on your drinking buddies... Some of these people are good friends of mine, I wouldn't want to upser them. Edit: Please bare in mind that I will and do share as much as I can, because I really do think that the gaming public is one, interested in what happends behind closed doors... Like any culture of celebrity, (just not in the same way as say hollywood), and two, gamers are intelligent enough to actually understand and respect the process of games development, and hence why sometimes things turn out the way they do, and thiirdly, I'm a gamer like you guys, I love games. I'm actually very interested for two reasons: 1-the game industry seems very secretive about their process, most of what I've seen about it comes indirectly from showings of a particular video game. Which is a stark contrast to the movie industry; to which is often compared, that has a seizable amount of documentaries and behind the scenes. In that respect I would be curious to hear more from developers as to what they think about the industry. 2-I'm actually majoring a Bachelor in Game Art & Design, although if the game industry is such a horrible place I might reconsider. P.S: your link is broken.
