That's why I said High Medieval era. Most generic fantasy settings use dark ages as the backdrop. But they also tend to use late medieval plate armour which actually post-dates the invention of firearms (or at least cannons). Yeah, I think plate armour was developed somewhere around the time first (primitive) firearms appeared. In any case, that generic medieval setting usually doesn't feature gunpowder, so I can see why some people would find that unusual. That's because most generic medieval settings are based on Tolkien, who's whole point was to lament the effect of technology and "progress" on western society. Gunpowder was something definitely not on his list of positives, so not something that would be featured in his world and used by his characters. Good point, after all, it's the Isengard that uses gunpowder.

That makes sense to hire people after the project, guess I didn't really consider that until they actually know the 'exact' amount of donation money they're going to be getting, they don't really know how much they can spend. I'm sure there are some people that are pretty darn expensive to hire, I stated earlier that they probably had a full team, but now thinking about it they probably will hire folks on after the kickstarter. I guess with how successful the kickstarter has been, it may even draw people to the project, so there's no telling who they may add on later. Yeah, exactly. They will begin hiring right after the campaign is over and the budget is discussed. I think we can definitely expect more talent joining their ranks.

I still think it's a possibility, Aedelric; maybe not as a stretch goal, but they might hire Justin later on. They've previously hinted that they will begin hiring people after the Kickstarter is over. Besides, I know that Brian Fargo hired several writers after the Wasteland 2 campaign was over. From yesterday's chat we know that they've at least considered it.

Weapon mechanics

Well, in my opinion, since it's a computer game, there's little danger of bogging down the game with detailed rules - after all, we aren't game-masters, we don't have to handle them ourselves That's the perk of having a system designed to work in computer game from the get go. -
That would be amazing. I'm just thinking back to 2 years ago, when I spent a couple of weeks travelling around Tuscany by train... I didn't get to see Venice, but a lot of other places! I just love the idea of basing one of the races on Italian city states As long as there's water... and a big city Make that city-state both beautiful and deadly, with dangerous games played behind the scenes... I like how we're furiously discussing how exciting the SECOND big city might be, what about the first one? :D Edit, I completely and utterly agree with your sentiments. I thought it was already agreed that the first one would be amazing, no? The quote from Sawyer opens up for some good speculation about which race the first big city will "belong" to... it's "too early" to talk about the first city, but the second one might be Valian, or on the Pearl Coast!? I reckon that the first city will be in the Dyrwood.

Thanks for the support everyone, at the very least we managed to let them know that there's plenty of fans who'd love to see Sweet's portraits in this game. The answer we got (Adam Brennecke: We've talked here about contacting Vance and Justin but we haven't had a chance yet.) means there might be good news coming

I just love the idea of both! I mean, an Italian city state could of course also have a coast line, but it sounds like it's either/or... a city by the coast, or by water in general, has the opportunity to be a much richer environment. I suppose, if it's a big city, it ,must have access to water, in some way. If we're following real world rules. I'd love to see a city modelled after Venice. you really are into the italian idea.. are you italian or is it your favorite holiday location? :-P Neither, actually But I love the Renaissance era.

Josh Sawyer: too early to talk about our first big city, sorry. but if we get the second big city funded, it will likely be very different from the first, possibly one of the vailian republics or a city on the pearl coast. So what would you prefer? An Italian renaissance inspired city, or a coastal one? I'm undecided! Italian city-state please. With overt renaissance look.
