  1. I'd still suggest you'd get an SLI equipped motherboard and make sure it has PCI-E ports too. PCI-E is up to twice as fast as AGP8X and it is going to be the new standard. The best part about SLI is that if you get one GPU now, you can always upgrade later and get 50-80% increase in performance for the cost of a new GPU (which should be cheaper by the time you need to upgrade). The problem is that you have to go with Nvidia (for SLI) instead of ATI, so if you don't like Nvidia there's a problem..
  2. Oh, I remember when me and EnderWiggin polluted some poor thread with our endless Iraq discussions. I remember he called Hans Blix a liar for saying there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.. They have still not been found, by the way. An entire war started, based on a lie.
  3. I wasn't aware of that. But the price is the same for a Geforce 6800 Ultra as the X800, so just replace them with: 2x Gainward GeForce 6800Ultra 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express,"Ultra/2600PCX",2xDVI,Retail
  4. If you really want an Nvidia GPU, then I'd recommend the GeForce FX Go5700. It is very powerful and yet not too pricey. It should be able to handle Half-Life 2 without problems. My favourite among processors would be the AMD Athlon 64. It combines future safety (Windows 64 coming soon!) with exceptional processing power to a reasonable price. But they are all good processors, except for the Intel Celeron which I would stay away from.
  5. And I would actually replace the Opteron's with an AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 2.6 GHz Socket 939, 1 MB cache, BOXED. For the motherboard I'd choose an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard S939 PCI-E nForce4 SLI, 4xSATA2, Dual-GbLAN, ATX. That way you'd save enough money to take advantage of the SLI-function and buy two ATI RADEON X800 XT PLATINUM AGP8X 256MB DDR3 Dual (Retail) instead! The performance increase (for about the same amount of money) would be drastic. For gaming that is. If you're going to use your monster for film/video/heavy graphics editing, then I suggest you keep the two Opteron's.. Edit: Wait a sec! I noticed your graphics card is an AGP-card! Don't! Make sure your motherboard at least supports PCI-E and get one of those cards! Panic! Panic! New suggestions: AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 2.6 GHz Socket 939, 1 MB cache, BOXED. Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard S939 PCI-E nForce4 SLI, 4xSATA2, Dual-GbLAN, ATX. 2x Asus Radeon X800XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E, GDDR3, VIVO/2xDVI, Retail
  6. Yes, it's a good game, but probably not the best of 2003. I did a quick check on www.gamerankings.com and there are 20-25 games that are ranked higher than Madden on that list. Since Gamerankings list is based off of at least 10 different reviews for each and every title (noticed that KotOR averaged 94% from 43 different reviews! amazing..) I would trust it a little more than SpikeTV. But to each his own.
  7. Nothing's wrong with my reading comprehension. The example you gave as to why you hate ATI still stands, and I don't think your hatred for old, unsupported graphic cards has anything to do with this discussion. He is buying new equipment after all, and for the last few years ATI has supported each and every one of their cards.
  8. I have no idea what the Unimog weighs, but it's very compact and small. It's not much bigger than an ordinary SUV, only slightly wider (big wheels and all). http://www.unimogtrucks.com/
  9. And this is relevant to this discussion how..? ATI's drivers are just as good as Nvidia. I own a Radeon 9800 Pro myself and so far I've never experienced any problems. I used to own a Ti4600 before this card and the difference between the two brands (when it comes to drivers) is minimal.
  10. Unfortunately, the PC version of KotOR was very heavy on your system, even though the graphics weren't that impressive compared to other games of that time. I remember setting everything to my usual standards (1280x1024, Max details and 2-4x AA) and the game responded by giving me 15-25 fps.. It was pretty annoying. After reading these reviews I'm sure Obsidian hasn't optimized the engine any more than Bioware did, so I guess I'll have to live with it. It doesn't really matter much and as long as it isn't as bad as Deus Ex: Invisible War I'm happy.
  11. Maybe he thought it was Jedi Knight 3? I'd be pissed too if it happened to me
  12. Geez! I went looking for my thread and I couldn't find it anywhere, thinking to myself "WHERE THE HELL IS IT, STUPID BOARD&
  13. Yeah, put it on DVD.. and squeese KotOR1 onto it at the same time, to comfort us poor PC owners who have to wait soooo long! It would make one hell of a christmas present at least.
  14. So it already arrived in Australia then (unless you're pulling facts out of your ass and haven't even played it yet)? I thought the rest of the world had to wait until February 2005 to get it..
  15. No, he has one like that. The one above is just a picture I found on the internet to show which model Unimog he has.
  16. And here I was, living under the impression that DirectX was there as the ultimate interface between game developers and hardware manufacturers.. Why, Bill, why do you deceive me so?
  17. Gamespy review added, although I don't personally give much credit to Gamespy. I think they suck, especially at RPG reviews.
  18. No, the worst review ever is this: http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/gothic-ii/6393p1.html?fromint=1 Trust me on this one. Compare the reader reviews average score to the one set by the reviewer.. I hate Gamespy. We'll see at the end of the week what they'll give KotOR2.
  19. 1Up added to the bunch. 7.5 seems a bit low though. Of course, I haven't played the game yet, so I shouldn't really say anything.
  20. If you really want a work vehicle (and don't care for aesthetics) I'd recommend the Unimog (also manufactured by Mercedes Benz). My father owns one and it's reliable, incredibly strong and easy to repair.
  21. You're thinking of Malak. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> One day I'm gonna learn the names of all these fictional characters.. or maybe not.
  22. Kiss him where? As I recall the bastard only had half a mouth.
  23. The Centrino is actually a very good mobile processor, despite its comparably low MHz. I'd pick that or the AMD 64. If you want to use your laptop for gaming, then YES, you definitely need an ATI or a Geforce. Make sure the GPU doesn't use shared memory (taking parts of the RAM as graphics memory). I would also recommend at least 512 MB RAM. Acer makes very good and relatively cheap computers, if they're availible to you. They might be a european brand though.
  24. I only have one link to say about the H2: http://www.fuh2.com/
  25. Uhm.. February 2005.. Please don't kill the messenger!
