Please tell me you are only being ironic about wanting bromances in Project Eternity, because if not you are hilariously and blatantly biased by your own hatred of the diversity of forms of expression of human sexuality. Nope. Sorry, words have meanings, you don't get to define them as "things I like" and exclude all things that you don't like. I happen to not, generally speaking, like RPGs without player choice. Shockingly, the fact that I do not like them does not somehow redefine words to fit my taste. But then you're just defining a "core feature" as a thing that you want to be in the game and a non-core feature as a thing that you don't want to be in the game. Certainly it's valid to want certain things but not others, but the pretensions of y'all that your opinions represent Objective Reality on what an RPG Is is ridiculous.

Ah, yes, "core value" of cRPGs. Let's remove all lore books, they're not a core value. All side quests, they aren't a core value. Character creation isn't a core value*. Chatting with people and discussing **** isn't a core value*. *: No, JRPGs are still RPGs. Wow can we not call women vapid? It's really gendered and extremely misogynistic. Felicia Day is a perfectly intelligent human being deserving of as much respect as you or I. Well, at least as much respect as you. Not sure she deserves quite as much respect as me. This is literally you: "How can people like things that I don't like? Don't they realize that they suck?" mixed with some "It's not that I don't like romances. It's that I don't like the people who like romances. The poll is ludicrously biased, I literally can't believe that you believe that poll sides with you. I have to ask all the people who seem to believe that a single romance in a video game is like some kind of horrifying infection that destroys all possibilitiy of enjoyment, what Obsidian games have you been playing recently? Because, uh, Dungeon Siege 3 had no romances, and that's about it for their entire library. Knights of the Old Republic 2, Mask of the Betrayer, Alpha Protocol, even Fallout: New Vegas.

Get a load of this clown. Only my opinion counts? You're the one who wants things he will never voluntarily choose taken out because it will remove (solely by opportunity cost, I remind you) from the parts of the game he likes more. And game design is a throw away resource? Could you at least try to read my posts before writing your own? Just an idea I'm throwing out there.

Literally any part of the game drains resources from other parts, it's a really childish perspective to say that any feature MUST be something you'll enjoy. If one of the classes is fun for other people but unbearable for you, are you going to bitch about it too? Because designing and balancing a class takes a hell of a lot more time and effort than writing some dialogue.

1. Vancian magic is ****ing terrible, I literally can't believe anyone supports it. It's the primary impetus for the five minute day pioneered by D&D, and it's stupid as hell. It sucks all the fun and reason out of the game. It's a casting system so atrocious even D&D has abandoned it (Alhamdulillah). It's intended to curb Wizard Supremacy, but all it means is that the party takes a nap after every battle. All the band-aid solutions in the world can't change this fact. You stop wizard supremacy by making nonwizards fun and interesting to play, not introducing a system that's only purpose ever has been to make the party take a nap after every battle. 2. I prefer systems where my old spells remain useful (by scaling with my level/intelligence/whatever) but I get new spells I might want to use as well. 3. Arcane/Divine is silly D&D crap. IRL, religion and magic have always been intimately intertwined for a reason - they represent part of the same comprehension of reality. The separation of the two is a strictly modern affair. Arcane magic is an appeal, ultimately, to modernity and scientific naturalism: it represents systemized comprehensions of reality on the basis of experimentation and observation, a society that controls its reality through reason and force of will rather than bowing before the universe/God. In settings intended to evoke historical eras wherein scientific knowledge was limited, literacy was for ****, God was Great and much was forgotten, it's ****ing stupid.

Pretty much every Obsidian game has had romance subplots. The idea that it ruins the game has no grounding in reality. If you are a fan of the product that Obsidian produces, you literally, literally cannot believe that romances ruin games, because then the only game of theirs you'd like is, like, Dungeon Siege 3.

Oh yeah, because I have to play as a man if I'm a dude. Please. If I wanted to play as a man, I would go outside. It reads like a push poll, and as an expert in push polls, I know what they look like. "Would you vote for Candidate Z if you learned he was embezzling from the government?" "Would you want romance removed if its inclusion meant the removal of all weapons from the game?" Bioware writes the characters from the perspective of "person I want to ****" which is a huge part of what makes them so goddamn embarassing (except for Garrus, he's so dreamy ). Hentai adventure games have way better relationships than ****ing Bioware crap. I disagree. I love having homosexuality stuffed down my throat. Neither does doing a sidequest, or reading a lore book. Let's cut all sidequests and lore books out of the game.

Please, NO GUNS!
lord of flies replied to ZeshinX's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Guns are not a steampunk element, they are a historical technology dating back to 13th century Ming China, which made their way into Europe in the 14th! You can today purchase many firearms legally! AGH! -
It's funny how this sounds like one of those "generic plot starters" from that "every Bioware game has the same plot" thing. I don't mean to imply that Obsidian redoes the same thing over and over, it's just this is so generic sounding, like it could describe a bunch of different games. I mean, it's not like they've done this hook before - wait a second, that's the plot to Mask of the Betrayer! And KotOR 2! And Fallout: New Vegas! Obsidian you hacks!

Could you not make any of the fantasy races obvious stand-ins for real world cultures? It's really gross how in (for example) Dragon Age, it's medieval Europe but all the brown people are kossith and all the jews are elves, so only white people get to be human. I'm not willing to offer any additional money for this since you should do it anyway.

Let's talk about the map
lord of flies replied to WDeranged's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm going to fix those. Sorry. God is real. -
Oh yeah, like the bit where cavalry charged disciplined pikes... and won? Ah, yes, that's why there are no humans. And all the laws of physics are different. And organs are in different places. And and and...

Let's talk about the map
lord of flies replied to WDeranged's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah, let's talk about the map: that's not how rivers work. Look at that. A river that just clambers all over the place and has five separate mouths into the ocean? No. No! No! That's not how rivers work! I'm dying! I'm dying just looking at that! You've killed me, Obsidian! I'm dead! Now you will never get my money, and my estate will sue you for wrongful death. It all could have been avoided if you had learned how rivers work before making a map... but you didn't. You just assumed that you could do it without even looking up how rivers work. See what your hubris has wrought!?
