im taking a break from new vegas until it gets patched, im playing undead nightmare in the meantime, as well as limbo and diablo 2 again for some reason
-
well, lets not all cry rpgs are dead yet, dragon age 1 was a very decent rpg and it sold pretty well from what i can gather. the sequel may not be an rpg anymore there, but merely the fact that a decent crpg came out to big success in the year 2009 should be a clear sign that the genre isn't totally unmarketable.

i dont remember there being an inventory system in mass effect 2... i guess thats not a bad thing, but its not a very good thing either.
-
i think he meant just pressing the buttons mindlessly instead of having to think and plan. mass effect you can kinda sleepwalk through and still succeed, planescape torment or baldurs gate don't work that way
-
its weird, i was expecting them in nv too
-
it sucks really, but I have no one to blame but myself.

these last couple pages are very entertaining reading. I stand corrected about dev time, they probably did start right after finished the pc version. So if this bombs they have no excuse. Its also interesting though that only the xbox version is being shown, and perhaps that version will be inferior once again to pc version. I obviously still have a little hope for this game or I wouldnt be here. and as to inventory issues: I did not like the inventory in dragon age. big lists are lame. I like tetris inventories like deus ex, system shock and diablo oh well, can't please everyone!

flashback was such a stellar game, i never finished it though, and now i lack the patience cause im old and grumpy
-
mass effect 2 was just a lil more than 2 years of dev time, and that felt like enough time to make an adequate sequel, shaving 7 months off that for DA2 seems risky
-
bg 2 had about 6 months more dev time. it was basically a 2 year dev cycle, this is only 1.5 (which, to be fair, isnt a HUGE difference, but its still very significant, as most really good sequels have a 2+year dev time, while the ones with less than that often feel rushed/unfinished or unimproved over the original)

hahaha, oh wow. I can't take that preview to mean anything except the gameplay currently feels as bad as it looks. but still, its pretty funny that he bothered writing impressions at all. I've got a bad feeling about this game though... sequel is too different and perhaps has not had enough development time. it feels like dragon age 1 just came out and now the sequel is right around the corner...

morte>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>every FONV companion combined. edit: for serious, planescape torment had the best npcs in any video game ever. I expect them to remain the best for many years to come.

i kept expecting something REALLY cool in the cave, but couldnt find much other than some rare ammo.
-
fallout 1 and 2, deus ex, and planescape torment are all ahead of baldurs gate 2 imo. edit: i watched that off screen footage btw. the gameplay looks absolutely abysmal. maybe its more fun to play than watch? also, i really hope that the pc version does not include a requirement to diablo 1 style clickclickclick every time you want to attack. if it does i will probably pass on this. mashing click for a 40+ hour game is not fun

hooks for dlc maybe? or just interesting little mysterious to make the world feel more alive and full?

I'm.. not sure why. Obsidian getting a knack at Fallout, being founded by Black Isle veterans and having a lot of people that worked on Van Buren and even Fallout 1 made sense, but Obsidian working on Elder Scrolls? Nah. i think they would be able to add a lot to that series (which has been getting stale imo), particularly by spicing up the challenge and combat.
-
yeah i guess this is pretty much how i feel as well, I had high hopes and was let down for sure. I did not notice too many repeating voices ala oblivion though, a few here and there but not like the horrors of oblivion's world populated by 4 people and boromir. overall i feel like the voice acting and amount of actors is 5x better than fallout 3, which was 10x better than oblivion. I would really like to see obsidian take a crack at an elder scrolls game after seeing them knock new vegas out of the park. It would be really cool to see them alternating fallout and elder scrolls spinoff games while making enough money to also produce an original obsidian-owned IP every couple of years as well.

Since the person who has written the original post is me, I can assure you that it's not a PR piece and just suggesting it, it's a little bit insulting. I'm not enthusiastic: too old for that. I've only said that the game look good and promising and that I like the general direction of design more than DA:O. For me DA2 seems to be better than DA:O under most aspect and I do not say it because of fanboysm (again, too old for that) but only because I do not like DA:O a lot in terms of gameplay (DA:O is a good game but not my favourite Bioware's title). Having followed the development of DA:O and DA2 since the beginning, I allready know a lot of things and I was able to use the demo to test all the things I've read along the way. Moreover, I played the demo twice. They're just my opinions and you could have different ones: I'm not a journalist and I only express a very personal view. Btw, I'm sorry for my english but english is not my native language. For the poster who has questioned the validity of my opinion because of my prose/gramatic, try to write in italian and we will se what you'll pull out... i was indeed suggesting that the writer of the original article (meomao) perhaps was too fanboyish to be trusted based on the way the article was written. I didn't mean to insult your english (i thought it might have been written by a kid actually) I didn't realize you were not a native speaker so of course you get a pass on the phrasing issues (my italian consists of: lasagna!). i re-read the article and think a more appropriate response than saying you were untrustworthy would have been to say: "Nice preview but unfortunately it doesnt help me much because its written by someone who did not like the combat/rule system in DA1. I liked the combat and rules in DA1, I just thought there was WAY too many combat encounters. I hope someone with a similar outlook to my own posts a preview so I can better judge what my own reaction will be. It's good to hear that the dialogue is on par or better than that found in DA1, because I liked that quite a bit, I hope we still have a wide variety of responses to choose from during dialogue though, cause I vastly prefer that over the good guy line/bad guy line found in mass effect." so yeah, i was a bit hasty and judgmental meomao, sorry if i offended you. edit: i was 18 when BG2 came out, i definitely appreciated it, though i thought planescape torment was better, and I liked DA1 quite a bit, but think the game has poor replay value because the endless fighting gets a little stale, if DA1 had 1/4 the fights the game would be an A+ imo.

matthew perry's voice acting was awful, and john dorman for caesar was a bad choice. kris kristofferson and william sadler more than made up for it though, along with the people who did cass, veronica, yes man, mr. house, and a few others. i was not crazy about the voice of vulpes inculta. i still havent found raul the ghoul, but I figure i'll track him down on my 3rd playthrough... huge game is huge

i know its not fair to judge the validity of a person's opinion by the quality of their writing, but I just can't help think that whoever wrote that lil piece is not to be trusted.

ok here is my next few weeks: finish new vegas undead nightmare warhammer 40k Dawn of War 2 - chaos rising (longest title ever) limbo breath of death 7 amnesia bayonetta finish demons souls
-
i've said it several times already but dragon age origins would have been a better game imo if it had only 3-4 fights per dungeon. make em big and hard, but far between.
-
Eric Fenstermaker designed Vault 11. someone get that man a cookie and a raise.

I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favourite thread on Obsidian
entrerix replied to Gorth's topic in Computer and Console
i dont care if its heard of anymore, bioware should do it anyway to make me happy cause im in charge and i get what i want. slightly off topic: some games would be better if they would re-examine the past a little more. final fantasy series: I am looking at you. seriously looking. final fantasy 6 was awesome, try making something like that again. last time you tried making final fantasy 6 you made final fantasy 7, and that game rules. so try again, maybe we'll get another game to rival the good ol days.
