It's a standard hack/slash, just as Half-Life 2 is a standard FPS, and NWN2 - Mask of the Betrayer is a standard RPG. If you base your opinions on how things look... I've played Halflife 2 and I'd say it was your basic FPS with some puzzles and race stages thrown in for variation. ahh but its not standard in it's presentation (its WAY above standard) (and I don't just mean graphics, like crysis had good graphics but sucked, half life 2 has good graphics and is incredible)

sooo... an Action/Action Rpg? or a Shooter/Action Rpg? why not just change the criteria of action rpg to include any game where you cannot choose to handle all combat via "commands" and must point -n-click to kill stuff? BG you could just click "fight" and point at the enemy then sit back - hence a "fight command" hence RPG. can't do that in mass effect

I'm playing: 1. street fighter 4 (about an hour a day) 2. secret of monkey island special edition thingy (never played it originally, but I'm digging the new graphic style) I'm thinking of playing: 1. guild wars original campaign (just for the memories, plus I want to try a very impractical character and see if I can get through it all) 2. Diablo 2 (when that stupid patch finally arrives that lets you easily share inventory between characters AND redistribute skills) 3. Grim Fandango (never played it, but was smart enough to buy it when it was a 5$ jewel case game, its VERY dusty on my shelf) 4. penumbra: black somethin somethin (heard it was scary, i like scary games) 5. beyond good and evil (got it for cheap on steam, have been meaning to play it for years) 6. IL2 Sturmovik (see above - I like tie fighter a lot, is this half as good?) 7. something else? any recommendations? feel free if you're bored to recommend one of the above listed games, or something else. if you're not bored or don't want to suggest stuff to me for some other reason: feel free to ignore! (or heckle, but keep it nice

I laughed. ...Forgive me. dude no worries, I laugh thinking about it now too. I had to beg my parents to get us a new computer so I could play warcraft 2. I love having a real job, I can buy whatever the hell I want now. -

CRUSADER!!!!! that game was soo cool but I couldnt play it at my house because of the system requirements when i was a little kid. -
you know thats so funny cause when I was a kid and I beat the game I used that archer guy in my party too, and he did about 90% of my total damage output. magic bow + magic arrows did HUGE damage lol now I just want to start a new game with all rangers and see what happens.

now i just want to play it again. (but I KNOW i'll stop after just a few hours, so I'll probably just check out the ending like you suggest! -
yeah I tried playing through BG 1 again to relive the old days. no dice. That **** was retarded hard. I play fallout 1 and 2, and planescape torment all the time and have no problems, but BG? that's just waayy too much challenging combat and not enough character for my tastes nowadays. I loved that game when I was a kid though. It was one of the first rpg's i ever played. That and fallout 1, I think I played them when I was a freshman in high school. good times. good times.

i checked amazon for age of decadence, no listing. is this game real? or did it not actually come out?
-
what's important though is that we all recognize how INSANELY GOOD Planescape: torment was, and how we'll be lucky to ever have a game of that caliber again. edit: she was more than a symbol though. The sensate stone with the memories of the evil incarnation twisting her around his finger. her reactions. that was intensity and character. not just symbolism

this is a great thread, I for one think its ok to have a few games that are good, maybe SOMEWHAT known, but generally forgotten too. Like dungeon keeper or something. (yeah most of us know it, but it's rarely talked about by the "big press") that game was stellar. keep posting suggestions!! I'm making a list of old stuff to track down! oh yeah and septerra core was awesome, but got REALLY monotonous after the first 15-20 hours or so. I never finished it. -
guild wars was better than WoW. (just getting vengeance for that Fallout remark)
-
yeah when it boils down to it. fix the dialogue and story problems and mods can fix a lot of the minor things like stimpack issues and radiation problems. i'd rather have it be fixed without need for a mod, but the devs should put their time where it matters most. quests, dialogue, characters, storylines, consequences for your actions

i think religion is one of the many areas that fallout 3 failed to address well. There were a couple cults but there was no meat to them. I expected to find a quest or two associated with those bomb worshipers in megaton, no such luck. I really want there to be something to DO with all the groups in the game. Even simple quests like repairing leaky pipes or helping them figure out how to rotate their crops or something. don't just slap npcs in the game like window dressing, let them have/serve purpose and contain INTERACTIVITY with the player.
-
at least now theres a little something going on in the mechanics thread. still dead here though...

adding weight and scarcity to stimpacks would solve the issue in my opinion. right now I think you find 10x more than is whats appropriate. when I leave the vault at the beginning I should have 5, not 50. at the end of the game I should have 100, not 1000. adding the weight would limit carrying 1000 anyway. I changed my game to make them heal 1/10th of what they used to, it was easier for me to do that than to make finding them more rare. I do not want to have to do something that stupid in FO:NV for me to feel challenged. The other change I LOVE is tripling the amount of rads everything gives. With stimpacks being near useless I have to use water as my main source of healing, and now I actually need to use those rad-aways. sleeping should not heal at all.

things have clearly taken a turn for the worse in this thread

i wonder how many pages of "i'm bored, where's the info?" we'll have before they start telling us stuff.
-
good article. much better than total lack of NEWs. Someone earlier had it right. They've decided to kill their fans by starvation. Leaving only our crushed remains, weakened and ready for whatever PR steamroller and media circus Zenimax is preparing for next fall. 30 second teaser is oh so much more than I'd been asking for! I just hope things are going well, on both AP and this. If the games turn out well then it'll more than make up for this callous disregard for our desire for early info
-
troll? yeah right. just a disappointed fan. unless that's the same thing in your book.
-
any news yet? no? lame. if they released one screenshot per month from now till the game came out that'd only be like, 16 screenshots. this is getting kinda sad.

Game Informer and Revolvers
entrerix replied to Revolverhawk's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
ya, this game looks very much like james bond meets jason bourne. not really much realism -
Lets talk about guns

i may be WAY late to the party but I saw on ign I think that weapon packs will go to those who preorder from bricknmortars, and those weapon packs contain fancy weapons that have bizarro names like "thunderhammer" and stuff. No real world weapon names on that list (unless there exists a whole category of bizarre weaponry with names like "obliterator" instead of G36C) again, sorry if I'm saying stuff that's known already. -
it might be my memory playing tricks on me, but the one with the creepy girl elf who had her wings ripped off in Baldurs Gate 2 was ok? maybe? I haven't played that game since I was 12. So maybe it looked good to a 12 year old and now that I'm old it would be pathetic.
