RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
That's the whole point of the game. They are trying to make enough money to get over the years that are required for the colony ship RPG. The development time spend on Dungeon Rats is less than a year, exactly because they are reusing most of the assets from the main game and because it is very combat focused.

Red Dead Redemption 2
That trailer actually looks more like a teaser. I'd start a replay of Red Dead Redemption right away, but the old potato ps3 console is unable to render it in higher resolution and I feel no motivation to give me that blurry and pixelated stuff anymore. Seriously, even back in the days I had to sit like right in front of the tv in order to recognize anything. For me the game never looked like on all the screenshots you can find online. It can't be just me... About Desperados.. never finished it. At some point the game becomes really hard and you have to start cheesing around a lot. Never really played the sequels either, because they somehow ruined the game with the 3d graphics and horrible controls.

Red Dead Redemption 2
Not an RPG, true, but have you tried Gunslinger? It's significantly different from the other Call of Juarez games (I'd say better in just about every respect, but that might be just me), and it has this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BZYk6Mz0GQ Yes, I've already mentioned gunslinger. :> It was a fun game and I enjoyed it quite a lot. Maybe I should replay it again some day. Form what I remember, New Vegas is actually the closest we ever got to a modern wild west-like RPG. :> (Fallout 1 has quite a few wild West elements too. The raiders, junktown, etc)

Red Dead Redemption 2
There are the 3 Call of Juarez games, then there is GUN which is pretty awesome and there was also Prey 2(sort of) but beths had to go ahead and kill that one. Played Gun ages ago on PS2. Was ok. Tried the Call of Juarez games, but hardly could get into it. In any case, none of them are roleplaying, but shooter games. Just like I said.

Red Dead Redemption 2
Well... there's Outlaws. From 1997. Yeah, but it's a shooter- and it's old. There had been a few good wild west shooter games back in the days (I've played Half-Life Wanted a lot, too), but I don't remember a single roleplaying game.

Red Dead Redemption 2
I can't believe nobody made a real (good) wild west rpg game, by the way. Did the genre died down so much that nobody cares? The last wild west game in years that I'd call good was Hard West, and that's basically it.

Red Dead Redemption 2
Ive tried The Redemption multiplayer again yesterday too and apparently there are extreme problems with it since years. Some hacks basically ruined it, producing extreme loading times and other bugs. It's really annoying. Then again I usually never play such multiplayer games anyway and I know nobody who would want to co-op it.

What's so bad about GTA Online? I've never played it.

Red Dead Redemption 2
I don't care for GTA or any other game, but this one can make me buy a PS4. /Edit: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger isn't that old and it's not a bad game.

What are you playing right now
Huh, to me Fallout still looks pretty good today, thanks to the graphic style. There are other games of that time period that didn't aged very good at all. Use the high-res patch and play in a resolution of 1280x720px - that should do the trick.

I'd say it is one of the best (in english) released mods for Fallout 2. Not that there are that many of em, but still. It has some problems with combat balance, though. At some point the enemies suddenly become much stronger than you could level up from quests alone, so that's going to beat you down a bit, I guess (I just hate encounter farming for xp).

What's on the idiot box?
Watched the first episode of westworld. Was good so far. One scene reminded me of when we were developing FOnline 2238 - you spend so much time creating and preparing certain scenes and then some god damn player comes along and ruins it. :>

Star Citizen
I didn't even know that it wasn't known yet. I never expected the game to ship end of this year, and thought it was clear since the last presentation. But I love that with 3.1 they want to get the Hull-C into the game. It's the ship I've spend some money on. I am guessing it being approx half of 2017 to be ready.

Best moments in a game
Back when playing New Vegas for the first time I still had my Fallout 3 bias. It felt kinda boring and wonky and the technical issues I had with the sound didn't helped much either. Kinda forced me through Primm and was about to quit playing when I noticed the big statue in the distance. I've decided to walk over there, expecting some of that goofy Fo3 stuff that exists for lolz... but the closer I got, the atmosphere of the game somehow changed (big wasteland with no random mobs every 10 meters). When I arrived at the statue the music changed and I noticed this is a military checkpoint with trader and random people and Brahmin in PENS nearby... everything made sense and it was not one of them 3 people towns of Fallout 3... It hit me hard and I noticed this game really is different. It hooked me up completely and I am playing the game still today.

Pictures of your Games Episode VIII The Fast - The Picturesque
I would have liked a function to increase the difficulty manually in a sandbox game. At some point the game usually becomes too easy and you are lacking real challenges (or they constantly repeat), in which case it would have been great to just knock up the difficulty a lil bit.

Is this Anno 1404? I kinda liked the game, but never played it a lot, because it somehow felt to me like it is missing complexity. Same actually for Anno 2070 - loved the looks & all that, but at some point it felt too simple to me. Especially with the dumb ai that was always doing exactly the same thing.

What does "making it viable" mean anyway. Let's say I create a character and the only combat skill I am increasing is melee. Then I get into combat with ranged guys who own me. Now I cry how bad the balance in the game is. Doesn't that make me the idiot who uses melee in ranged combat (bringing a knife to a gun fight)? Do the developers really have to force the game to allow my stupid melee-only character in situations where ranged combat should be the only valid option? People assume that melee is not just a secondary combat skill for specific situations. Maybe it's the games fault for not explaining it well enough.. no idea. I don't think I've played enough PoE to have a good opinion on the combat system. In my 24 or so hours of playing it, combat mainly turned into "mark all & attack x" mosh pit.

Yet another example. Back when playing Fallout I didn't even expected melee to be completely viable from the beginning to the end of the game. It never crossed my mind that my character - who usually in every combat situation gets shot at from the distance - should be able to beat the game in melee only. For me, melee / unarmed was a "I am out of ammo and close to the enemy"-kind of combat skill. Not that useful most of the time, but that's what it is.

It's all really not that easy. Just because combat is crap, the game doesn't automatically become bad. I see all the people always arguing how bad combat in Fallout or Arcanum was, but honestly, up until nowadays tymes, I never even thought abou it- in fact, it didn't influenced my enjoyment with the games 10+ years ago a single bit. Maybe I even felt it was a positive thing to - at some point while playing - becoming so strong, I'd own the random encounters in half a minute. What always really hooked me up, was the general atmosphere in the game, the stories and the experiences, the unique encounters you could have (getting Dogmeat in Fo1 or the dog in Arcanum, first time ever seeing and interacting with a super mutant, etc) .. but never the amount of balance in combat. Maybe I am too old and have seen too much, but I don't think a game ever got me again as hard as talking to Lou for the first time after I accidentally got moved to the Mariposa Military base, completely unprepared and by surprise. And here is a spoiler: The following combat scene was completely unbalanced. :>
