Maybe related to https://www.hrw.org/news/2022/01/19/new-language-requirement-raises-concerns-ukraine "The law aims to revitalize the Ukrainian language and is part of government efforts to reinforce national identity after the fall of the Soviet Union. Some officials called it essential for Ukraine’s national security. Public opinion polls indicate that at least 60 percent of Ukrainians support certain provisions of the law. Article 25, regarding print media outlets, makes exceptions for certain minority languages, English, and official EU languages, but not for Russian. Ukrainian authorities justify this by referring to the country’s European ambitions and “the century of oppression of … Ukrainian in favor of Russian.” There are concerns about whether guarantees for minority languages are sufficient. The Venice Commission, the Council of Europe’s top advisory body on constitutional matters, said that several of the law’s articles, including article 25, “failed to strike a fair balance” between promoting the Ukrainian language and safeguarding minorities’ linguistic rights. It stated that “historical oppression of Ukrainian ... may lead to the adoption of positive measures aimed at promoting Ukrainian, but this cannot justify depriving the Russian language and its speakers of the protection granted to other languages…”" That would be hilarious to see the diplomatic storm if they did that, kicking out half the alliance. I'd always thought the carrot would be Ukraine not in NATO for some number of years if anything. Who's going to whine about whataboutism to you, you figure ?

Good job slowing down the whole page

Better feedback than I get from management.

Managed to remain conscious through my work day.

If France gets to final, they're going to concede about 4 penalties.
-
Yah. Guess Messi is going to win it all.

You're the 3rd person to tell me that Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment
-
Strange penalty there, I guess the keeper is to dive out of the way if a striker just runs at them. Game over anyway.

Only game I ever played on LAN was Quake. Until the lab got closed when someone printed about 4000 pages of porn. Friends all lived far from each other so using Kali/Hamachi/IP worked much better

Same thing

Failing to do so is going to be the end of NATO though and an immense loss of credibility and prestige for the US. So against that, they are pushed into a corner more or less, they'll fight Russia and hope it's remains non-nuclear. In any event, is a moot point as Ukraine's not going to fall here. If there's going to be any guarantee or anything, would just be solely tied to Ukraine no ? Ukraine not being in NAT0 for a while isn't that great a loss to the alliance, regardless of their forces being elite from top to bottom.
-
Well, we've not seen nukes fly yet, so at least one barrier they are respecting. I don't really think all the Russian leadership are insane, though.

Speaking of missing, think Guard Dog is dead ?
-
Neither are in NATO, though. NATO has to defend its members, everything else is optional, right ?
-
Invading the Baltics is vastly less likely to occur though. Especially as Ukraine is the preceding event. Would be sort of an amusing hypothetical though, NATO just falling apart as a good chunk of its members are invaded with no proper response.
-
Well, was just pointing out why it's not likely, so am surprised it works on people.
-
Bit much to extrapolate from how a non-member is treated to determine how a member would, though. Especially as NATO forces would get more funding and attention if Ukraine did capitulate in weeks than it does now.
-
Which would be even more insane than invading Ukraine as that's war with the US - gambling that NATO will fear nuclear war to the point the alliance fails in its primary purpose seems to have poor odds. https://news.err.ee/1608815692/edf-intelligence-chief-russia-still-has-long-term-offensive-capabilities ""We estimate that Russia had about 17 million rounds of ammunition before the war started, 10 million of which have been used up," he said. "At the end of the summer, their ammunition usage was very high - there were days when between 20,000 and 60,000 [artillery] rounds were being fired, which is a huge amount." This guy is always pessimistic, but that was interesting to note

God damn that syncing bug.

Been part of marketing to get aid for Ukraine to say if Ukraine falls somehow Russia will then attack NATO members...because some how mystically Article 5 won't work because NATO didn't defend a non-member. Ergo, we must give them ATACMS, Arleigh Burkes, etc. Not sure the endpoint there as well. Strange questions to ask.

People still going on with the Ukraine first, then NATO idea ? But I assume something was lost in translation with Scholz, or at least I hope. It is just funny to see such over the top stuff such as that - another article quoted him as saying "for all Mankind" which is even more so.
