I'm hard pressed to see how this is an inequality in any way that warrants outrage (putting aside how everyone on the Internet is a Daily Mail reader in terms of that). I guess it's inequality in the game universe where those female NPCs can't be assassins....but that universe doesn't actually exist. Women can play the game and enjoy it for what it is, no ?

Well, if they're appealing to a demographic then that is withing their rights to do so - it is their product in the end. Interesting comment by the animator but I'm skeptical it is that easy, maybe a comment by a PM or developer might be more useful in determining how valid the excuse is. Still much a do about nothing, but then again I don't invest in the game PC as much as others seem to. But I guess it's good for other companies, they can put out something that shows how "progressive" they are and people will wank over it and say "See, Ubisoft!!".
