I thought Stellaris did it well by having the game run so slowly they'd defeat you that way. Still doing the tutorial for Planetfall, can't find time conveniently, so far seems like it'll be a Civ 5 like experience at least. Hopefully will get to experience a proper game tonight and lose.

It being like a good book, interesting characters and an interesting setting. Quality of the puzzles matters a close second. After all these years playing I'm okay with moon logic puzzles. The third game pretended the second didn't exist, no ? Hah.
