  1. Yeah whats up with that? There are so few games released for the PS3 and even less worth noting? A pity, considering how good the PS2 was. I was actually skimming through Metacritic yesterday looking at what we (PC gamers) have missed out with the consoles and found myself surprised that: a) everything worthwhile from the XBOX360 was already ported b) the PS3 has almost nothing worth porting in the first place Very few top notch exclusive titles are available for either console, and funnily enough I dont see myself crying over any of them. The consoles are as deep in **** as we are.
  2. Most responses on this forum will say no. I will say nothing will matter if this game doesn't ship 2mil+ considering it's on both consoles and PC. You mean for the purpose of supporting the further work of Obsidian, or will that be some sort of measure of quality?
  3. The combat part is a kind of a giveaway
  4. It's already out. Isn't it? I read the article about it and spore months ago. I'm also sure the steam version doesn't have it. I'm pretty sure that style of DRM is dead. For DA:O everyone that buys DA new gets Shale(pc companion) for those that buy it second hand pay $14.95. I think they might be using Stardocks model. Which is a good thing. I don't know, that's the first I hear of it. Maria will enlighten us when she gets around to it. DAO uses a regular disk check.
  5. Mind you, that's a man that considers NWN series "the best ever".
  6. Actually they are just being frank about Alpha Protocol unlike the usual hyping of ****ty AAA games or downright lying about them. Even if Alpha Protocol is a broken mess it will still be a better game than the likes of Oblivion or Fallout though. I'm just surprised that Obsidian keeps on making the same mistakes over and over again. Troika did the same and look where that got them.
  7. Just what I feared, the standard Obsidian flaw and that keeps on repeating itself: a great story with great characters dragged down by sterile gameplay. I thought I saw a lack of variation in gameplay in the videos as well, but I hoped I was wrong. As for bugs KOTOR II and NWN2 ran perfectly fine on my PCs. NWN2 was horribly unoptimized, but that's about it. Edit: Oh crap, not this as well.
  8. I wonder when a patch removing DRM from ME will come out. Then the game might be worth buying. On that note is the limited install thing back for ME2?
  9. I personally lump movies, comics (european, not US superhero comics) and games in the same category and that is: primarily entertainment with the rare possibility of being art.
  10. If by outstanding you mean on par with the classics of literature, then no, there isn't a game that has any cultural significance of that sort. But then that's hardly the goal:
  11. I remeber Psychonauts was an ingeniously concieved idea stuck in a mediocre platformer. The moments of pure genius like going into the mind of Napoleon, then the man with the obsession of being pursued etc were watered down by stupid gameplay, which didnt fit the maturity of the ideas presented. In the end it was unclear what the game was trying to be, and to whom it was supposed to appeal. As for BGII the writing went from functional to outstanding, depending on the parts, which is to be expected in a game with that much scope. The fact that it is consistenly good is an achievement unto itself given its enormity.
  12. Actually the latter three have very few games to their name. Psychonauts has almost no writing and little dialogue though it is a good game. Nomad Soul and Farenheit are well written but nothing remarkable. The same goes for System Shock 2 and Freedom Force. They might all be good games but their writing is nothing special at best, it never rises above the level necessary to sustain the plot. Its never outstanding in its own right, merely functional. Obsidian has only one game that is superior in writing and thats MotB, and perhaps KOTOR II if it led to a meaningful conclusion. So I don't really see your point. Even though I hated Jade Empire for example I have to admit the writing is good. As for Baldurs Gate II/Throne of Bhaal no comment is needed. KOTOR, NWN, Mass Effect were weak. Torment of course beats all of them. Edit: ranked up it would be Torment>BGII>MotB - Black Isle>Bioware>Obsidian>Troika (VtM Bloodlines). The rest are light years away.
  13. Hey! Don't you dare throwing mud on my preciousss Thief 3. I have spent so many long minutes hugging walls to hide in tight places... Umm or are you talking about Mirror's Edge and Assasin's Creed? or? *The user has encountered a logic error* I was referring to Gears of War style third person shooters. Yes, very irritating. And about as tactical as a suicide bomber.
  14. Apparently, yes. Edit:
  15. I've no idea what you did to make ME last as long. I searched every single one of those stupid planets, finished every quest and side quest and it wasnt above 22-23 hours total. It's quite possible that you didn't unlock all the planets and sidquests. What level were you at the end of your first playthrough? In all honestly, I assumed that ME 2 would be shorter than ME 1 as they're removing the tedious 'fetch 15 asari sex dolls' quests. I can't remember honestly, I have my save files somewhere but its too much of a bother to install ME to check it. But all those crappy collectable things you find on planets were either completed or a lacking 1-2 items to complete, so I assume I didn't miss anything.

  17. I understand we're not talking about speed runs and tricking the game into finishing too early but the average gameplay for the main quest only. In BGII it was around 40-50 hours, in BG around 30. Definitely not 3.
  18. That's a joke right? You've never see the speed run times for various BioWare games, have you? No? But this was supposedly 3 hours of gameplay + cutscenes, nothing is that short?
  19. An Indie platformer/puzzle/jap RPG - MR. Robot. Thats the protagonist Asimov sitting in the hand of a bigger robot. The game is fantastic.
  20. That's a joke right?
  21. Funny they'd want to bring back the only annoying thing in the BG games
  22. Its not, I was just commenting on the possibility. Fallout 1/2? You meant the epilogue or the occasional changes to the gameworld while you're playing?
  23. They'll probably just rip off Witchers delayed consequences thing.
  24. Hard to decide between Myth II: Soulblighter/Starcraft/Homeworld/Dawn of War The one I most enjoyed playing was definitely Myth II's single player campaign. Homeworld is the most artistic and beautiful game of the lot. Dawn of War's cool factor was through the roof. And Starcraft was all an around great game.
  25. That's right. Dunno what you did to get banned. Probably said something intelligent and spot on, that kind of thing doesnt pay off at all there.
