  1. Atton was having a conversation with my DS character, in reference to the corruption that was noticeable the way my character's face was changing. The last bit of conversation read as: "Well... you're starting to get creases - you could pass for the old witch's son." "Let's play pazaak" OK, maybe not the funniest thing, but the first time that happened, it was kind humourous in a jarring kind of way.
  2. I think the best compliment I can give to the Obsidian team is that even with all the falderal of KoTOR II, I'm on my second run through, and it's more than earned a place in my nice leather CD envelope, where I store the games that I KNOW I'm going to want to take out and play again, years down the road. The second compliment is that I'm addicted to these high-quality games you have produced over the past decade (Baldur's Gate series, Icewind Dale, Planescape, etc). You know who you are. I am *SO* waiting for NWN2 to be released, it's insane. Keep up the excellent work, Obsidian!!!
  3. Well, can't say I didn't TRY.... This thread was supposed to be about showing Obsidian the love, not more pointless bickering & squabbling. So be it...
  4. C'mon people, keep up the love! (w00t) *nudge*
  5. When you press "Print Screen" on your keyboard, it copies what is currently being displayed on your monitor, to the clipboard. At this point, there is no file generated or saved yet. That's why you have to open a raster graphics program like Pain, Paint Shop Pro, or Photoshop to copy an image into. Oy, I've been in Tech Support too long... I was about to type out "If there's anything else I can help you with, please reply to this e-mail."
  6. After reading the post (below) in another thread from "The Big Cheese" himself, I thought I'd start this new thread. I think it would be a very good idea for people to post what they LIKED in the game, not what they didn't like. Feargus & the rest of the Obsidian team worked really hard creating Knights of The Old Republic, and they pulled off (as much as they could), a follow-up to the 2003 Game of the Year, in only 1 year.(!!) To put it another way, Obsidian are teh roxxors!!! Let's keep this thread positive, let them know something that you think would brighten their day, and let them know creating KoTOR, with all it's trials & tribulations, was definately worth doing, and people really do appreciate their hard work. (Moderators, can I request your assistance with this? Can you delete any "Obsidian sucks blah blah blah" posts & the like, to keep this thread positive? Thanks.)
  7. I've already offered to do a small amount of QA work for the PC version if needed. My offer still stands.
  8. Just for the record, while I have posted my displeasure with the decisions that were made about the release, and the effect said decision had on the game, I did enjoy the game for what it was, and what it had. It was a good game, not a GREAT game. Part of my reason for my postings on the "big subject" was that I hold in high regard the people at Obsidian who produced such quality in the past. I don't wish to see them start down a road of producing the same bland, unoriginal products that have a large enough presence in the gaming industry already. I have my thoughts/ideas as to which company ultimately made the final call on releasing KoTOR II, but since I don't have proof of anything, I decided to cover the bases. I am really hoping that I did not unwittingly contribute to the idea to shut down the forums, and i would HIGHLY encourage Feargus to think heavily on that decision. Speaking as one who is currently one of the closest things to a Community Manager for my own company, what Obsidian currently has with it's boards is something that money just CANNOT buy. Sure, there will be a ruckus of one size or another for a short period after you release a product, but it will die down soon enough, and be replaced by the constant hum of pleasant exchange between the people who really count, the real fans of your product, who wil far outlast the din of discontent.
  9. I now present to you... Darth Kaonashi... ...and and Nihilus No-Face
  10. While I am not a Lawyer, I don't believe this is BioWare IP. Bioware's role with the original Knights of The Old Republic was as a developer. Star Wars is the Intellectual Property of Lucas Entertainment (in one form or another) Bioware's role in the production of Knights of The Old Republic II, as I understand it, was merely being a consultant to Obsidian Entertainment. I believe the question over the legalities of a user-made mod ultimately rest with LucasCorp. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Whoever has the technical rights to TSL, Obsidian definantly has the info that would be integrated into the mod unless they got rid of it for some reason. As for the issue of IP rights, I don't see why they would be a problem. A mod team doing most of the work is making a mod to restore content that would make the game better. LA does nothing but give Obsidian a green light, Obsidian doesn't invest an incredible amount of effort, and the mod team gets information and other help for a mod that they would make without that help anyway. I can't see a reason not to officially support the mod. Everyone wins; nobody loses. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't get me wrong, I *am* hoping that there won't be any conflicts anywhere, and the modding team can contribute in a great way to the game. I wish them much success. I might even be able to lend a little bit of help... Not coding or anything, or the effort will just gring to a halt. I mihgt be able to QA the work a bit, thoguh. heh, j/k about the errors in the last sentence.
  11. I'm re-posting information in one of my previous posts, just in case anyone's interested. I've also incorporated markussun's new LucasArts contact information. Keep in mind that a well-written letter, free from profanity and personal attacks, with at least one run through a spell-checker right before you send it, counts much more than train-of-thought reasons why you didn't like something. Also, an actual snail-mail letter (printed out from a word processing document, and signed by you personally) sent to the appropriate part(y/ies) probably counts for multiple e-mails. (It shows that you care enough about the issue to take the time to write about it, put it in the envelope & spend the measly .37 cents for postage). Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. 1560 E. 13. True, Obsidian & LucasArts may not come back to THIS game, if people make themselves heard, they will think twice & plan better before doing something like this again. Companies want you to hand over your money without hesitation. With the current state of affairs with KoTOR II, hesitation has been introduced into my next potential purchase. As well, I personally do NOT want to see Obsidian falling into the trap of making mediocre games. Yes, they made their money, and we all were cheated. I personally feel that this game was worth about $30. to $35., not the $50. I paid for a game which is in the line of the MUCH touted "2003 Game of the Year". If we don't speak up for what we feel is right, then it will become acceptable to give less and charge more. I, for one, am not going to just stand by and take this kind of attitude. Bottom line, if you want to have something great, you HAVE to be willing to stand up for it. Companies need to be held accountable for quality. We as consumers are the enforcers.
  14. I think at this point, if there was even a slight chance of getting them to do this, their only incentive to do it would be if they profited from doing so. I would certainly be willing to pay for an expansion if it restored everything we know to be missing. If they made the cutscenes, did the animation, restored the dialogue, and maybe had a movie clip or something, then you'd definitely be getting your money's worth. There's no way a company (or at least one tied to LA) will spend extra time/effort on freebie stuff for gamers. (and I'm not talking about normal patches, since those only fix bugs... I mean, new plot/content) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I fully agree with Rodatam's point. Having to pay to put finish the content in the game would amount to theft. Legal theft, unfortunately, but theft nonetheless. I paid a hearty sum for this game (much more than I usually pay for a game), sight unseen, based SOLELY on the enjoyment I had from the first KoTOR, and of Obsidian's past experience with the Baldur's Gate series & others. Admittadly, I did enjoy the game with what it had. However, I do feel that it was still in a Beta condition, with much to be added, and should never have been released in this condition. I do feel somewhat cheated, having been the victim of the all-mighty bottom line. Unfortunately, this has also tarnished the reputation of both this title, and of Obsidian Entertainment, both of which I have held in the highest regard. The ONLY reason this game was allowed to be released in such an abbhorent state was to make the Christmas season. With a long history in retail, and now in consumer electronics production, I fully understand the importance of this decision. I do believe (and REALY REALLY REALLY hope) Obsidian and LucasArts put together a plan, secret or not, to complete work on the game to polish it up, and not leave the atrociousness of the cut content, lackluster ending, and unfinished final polish on the story as a whole. The decision to release the game for the Christmas season was pretty much set in stone. The Christmas season is where you see the most sales, and I don't believe they could have waited another year before releasing the game. Factors such as advertising/PR (inclusing general buzz), production materials (CDs, printed manuals, jewel cases, etc.), retailer shelf space were all in place, contracts were signed by several companies, and would not be able to just "be put on hold" until next year. Granted. But my point comes down to this. LucasArts and Obsidian, you've made your sales. We've done our part by purchasing the game you designed. The FULL game, as it was intended to be, NOT half, NOT two-thirds, a FULL game. I don't just request that you follow through on this, as a consumer, one of the thousands who have paid you $49.95 for each unit, one of the group that effectively wrote the check for this game and your paycheck, I DEMAND that you follow through with the work that was intended to happen for this game, complete the story, restore the cut content, and have Knights of The Old Republic II be restored to it's full glory. I am following through on this voicing of my opinion with a letter (yes, an ACTUAL letter via snailmail) to be sent to Obsidian Entertainment AND LucasArts, followed by an e-mail of that same letter to said companies. I would suggest to everyone here to do the same, if you really are dissatisfied with the game. Also sign the online petition. Start to make your shouting actually heard by Obsidian and LucasArts, instead of just trying to kvetch on these boards, where they most likely don't want to lurk. It's up to you. Just as in the game itself, you have to make your choice. Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. 1560 E. 15. I received my last part (the focusing lens) on Korriban, which is the first planet that I really had a choice to go to. Level 13 male DS Consular.
  16. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever opened up the dialog.tlk in notepad or WordPad. I just did & discovered it has much (if not all) of the dialog from KoTOR I. Presumably, the engineers just built the dialog.tlk file for KoTOR II on top of the original, from the first game. Just thought it was interesting.
  17. Funniest. Screenshot. Ever. Forget Kreia, I wanna know about Visas' eyes. heh.
