I don't see the problem. If you don't like it, don't buy it. You know, there are also online retailers offering DRM-free products (for example GoG, and GamersGate is also a client-free mostly DRM- free downloading service), if that's what you're interested in.

I ended up maxing a Witch Doctor as well, I'd say he was one of the coolest characters (taking in consideration VO, visual appearance, lore and abilities) but the least fun to play.

True Grit sucks, otherwise you are right.

I thought this was relevant to the discussion about Kickstarter in general: http://newcdn.flamehaus.com/Valve_Handbook_LowRes.pdf Is Valve a successful model for an "independent" developer? Steam is generally thought of as "big business", but is it really what "independent" distribution of games would look like, scaled up? What if Steam would adopt the same ideas as GOG (for example, primarily ideas concerning DRM), would it work? Why isn't Steam and Valve the obvious partners for indie developers?

So, I've played through the beta with every class except the Witch Doctor. They sure have some balancing to do. Demon Hunter and Monk seems to be the most powerful characters, although the Wizard comes close after and looks to have some late- game potential. It's a huge argument against the game that it's entirely pointless to play the same class twice, because of the removed feature of customizing your character. Seriously, I wonder how they could get away with that. It's a step back to the days of the early nineties in terms of design. The "skill tree" model made for lots of replayability. Also, DS3 suddenly seems great when you play this. Kudos Obsidian, you should have made D3 instead of Blizzard! Seriously, if you could give Obsidian the same time and money that Blizzard got for D3 we would probably have gotten a lot more than this. Also, is it just me, or do the special mobs have only a very small set of abilities? I've noticed "Nightmarish", "Kickback" and "Teleporting", but no other.

I don't mean to say I've never lost due to one or several of these circumstances, just that I think it's fair that you do lose the game when they occur. -

Bah, even I, the pussiest of **** gamers have no problem with those. Wasted resources, working as intended. True... -
Seriously, guys. Since Kickstarter is an entirely voluntary purchase within a (in this context) capitalist system, it's as "capitalist" as you can get.

I can't wait for the Kinect Star Wars drinking games.

You skeptical people, did you even like BG in the first place? Significant parts of the original team getting together and adding content and features sounds great to me. Of course I'll pay for it, it's one of the best games ever created. You've got to realize these people (among which several were from the original team) are really putting their love in this. Were you fans of MDK back in the day and have you played the new version of MDK 2? Although the "added features" part of the MDK 2 remake was nothing to speak of, it was damn good work. I can't understand how you can be so tight-assed. I bet many of you pay lots of money for new mainstream games today, games you don't really care much about. Why not show your support for the Baldur's Gate franchise? I sure know I'm going to. -

I lol'd... -
I don't know, really... I don't see how the US has been taking anything from anyone by war lately. More like, you're wasting tons of money and making yourselves look like morons to the international community.

Is that the enhanced version? Looks pretty vanilla BG 1998 to me.. Hopefully there will be some screenshots soon. The character sprites are BG2- style... -

Miniature giant space tablet, haha... -
It just struck me that if they were working with Microsoft, they could have been working with the Shadowrun IP... Well, it's truly sad if that never came to be...

Could someone make a short list of Obsidian's different projects with short descriptions? I get all confused when I can't see them all at once in a tidy list...

Wow, looks awesome!

That doesn't make sense. I'm still intrigued about how you believe Blizzard could somehow charge all EU customers an extra $18 when there are different taxes in every country. A quick search shows that for digital services supplied from outside the EU and bought within the EU, local VAT is levied. VAT is between 15% and 25% in most member countries, so how could they just charge $18 (30%)?
-
Anachronox is great, the combat is awful though. Only game I know of that added a "fast forward" button in a patch so that you won't fall asleep...
-
Wait, the US has fragmented tax system compared to the EU? Dude, the EU is a group of entirely different countries. I have no idea how VAT works between states in the US, but I can say it's definitely not homogenous in the EU. The idea of Blizzard adding the same VAT to all of EU? Well, yeah, you get it... Also, I don't know about your last sentence there...

So, from Trent Oster's twitter: "If by today's graphics standards you mean lots of 3D rendering, no. We're 2D isometric all the way", "1st rule of #bgee Don't break the fun. We're using the 2nd Edition D&D rules" So, this is looking way better than expected suddenly! 2nd ed., who would have thought? Especially fitting since I've sworn to boycott future DnD games since the alignment system overhaul and the changes to FR.
