Why would I need to or even want to? -

Pity... but I am confident that another expansion pack is still coming. -

Great find! Looks nice and looks like Chult - all in all possible good news! -
This statement leaves me confused and reeling! What makes you say that, considering the fact that I am by no means sure, whether I will switch to the 4th edition or stay with 3.5 edition (which I like a lot). D&D Experience has information about the game and this information will hopefully help me reach a decision, but that does not mean that I am falling for anything.

Here is a blog from the D&D Experience seminar: http://www.critical-hits.com/2008/02/28/dd-xp-seminar/ As you can see, it has lots of new 4E info:

Yet more stuff on 4E! Here is the blog of Scott Rouse (Brand Manager for D&D). It contains new screens from the D&D Insider, which look better than the ones we have seen thus far (at least I think so, though that won't make me pay a per month subsription fee...): http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=996519 Note that the blog may be updated throughout D&D Experience. Here are the screenshots for those without access to D&D Insider:

You are right that this could have been done better, but it does not bother me too much - the system is not the best, but it is good enough for me. I would have preferred something along the lines of the following: Non-heroic ability scores are distributed according to the following generating function: Roll 4d4 This has the advantage of having the nice and simple 10 as the mean of the distribution (rather than 10.5 in 3d6). It also has tighter clustering around the center than the 3d6 function. I would then have each point above 10 grant a +1 modifier (so 16 would have a +6 modifier) and each point below 10 grant a -1 modifier (so 4 would have a -6 modifier). Distributions for PCs could be skewed towards the upper end in similar ways as they were in past editions (e.g. we could have roll 5d4 drop the lowest, or some sort of point buy or array...) and standard NPCs could use arrays. But alas, the 3d6 distribution was a sacred cow. It is not a disaster, though, as this distribution is decent enough despite their being better alternatives.

NO IT ISNT THOSE GENRES IS BANKRUPT WAH WAHHHHH But then the Obsidian prism focused light on both genres setting a cleansing fire and lo and behold fantasy and sci-fi CRPGs were forgiven their past transgressions and were born anew. Thus bespoke Magister Laciak on the fourth day of his meditation upon gaming future when the truth was revealed to him. And so the gaming world rejoiced and no longer feared PJ, for the people now knew that Obsidian would return to fantasy and sci-fi after PJ was over and deliver them from their sins.

Yes, or rather, arcane powers are called spells, divine powers are called prayers and martial powers are called exploits. That, at least, makes sense. -

I took a look and I must say that I am not at all interested in D&D Insider. Even if it seemed stunning, which it doesn't, I refuse to subscribe to game. It would feel like a PnP MMO.

Wizards of the Coast has released the first real look at the 4E rules. We have had sporadic information until now and could conjecture a lot from that, but for the first time we can now see how the basic rules interact. Download the document here: www.wizards.com/dnd/files/news_20080228.zip

Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition is on the way...

D&D Experience has started. For me, this will probably be the defining event in whether I will switch to 4E or stay with 3E. -
I buy games through normal retail outlets.

These are very impressive!

What exactly can you upgrade on a laptop other than the RAM? Anything? That's exactly the point I am trying to make - upgrading a notebook basically entails buying a new one.
-
Fair enough - that only works for desktops though, as notebooks are more difficult to upgrade.

i wouldn't rule out subscribing to a game if it was worth my while. I would. I need a sense of ownership and the notion that my game is 'secure' in the regard that it cannot be interrupted/revoked when I end my subscription... This obviously differs for different people, but I would not subscribe to a game no matter how good it seemed to be from my outsider position. That too. -

technically speaking, i don't think it's an MMO because it would be purely party-based. more like an MO or a MP session of NWN with a DM. Technically speaking you are correct, but the revenue model is the same as that of MMOs and that's what I was referring to. Definitely! I simply do not subscribe to games - full stop.
