KOTOR 2 cutscene question (spoiler)
pantherus replied to okgo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm not 100% sure where Wookiepedia got these details from - I was in the same boat when I read through the details there. Remember that Wookiepedia is updated by all sorts of people adding their 2c, and thus you can get added details from storyline books, cut content (see the TSLRP thread) and discussions with developers. Don't worry - I don't think you missed anything significant to miss that stuff -
what makes you think I know that one...? *looks at sig...* oh...right yeah - I love that line. HK's whole speech about how the term 'meatbag' originated is hilarious

KotoR 3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion, Part 22

Just need to be careful not to overpower the guns - I'd get annoyed if my Jedi (or Wookie...) constantly got shot to pieces while trying to run up to them with a saber (or sword...). I've noticed that they do tend to use moves like flurry/power/critical attack somewhat often once you get it to a higher level. But yes, maybe more versatile AI scripts to apply to NPC's (i.e. "Throw a grenade then charge in with melee weapon"). Definitely agree with minefield problem - that gets SOOO annoying. Could be very interesting to do - flanking tactics and stuff. Something other than run-of-the-mill 'hack hack' battles would be great. Good point - a little more realism would be nice in this respect. I liked what K2 did in this regard with the whole "Broken Item" thing with chests/crates - but yes - more focus on this would be great. It gets to the point where anything that could require a skill has a 'brute force' option which completely bypasses it... Yeah - finding suits of armour from the cannoks was a bit of a stretch. This is like the Diablo II dropping syndrome - midget demon dudes dropping huge halberds and stuff... Drops should be more like the proper D&D drop list - creatures/monsters/opponents have set things that they drop to various degrees (like a guy that runs around with a sword, will drop a sword), and sometimes have 'special' drops (this guy happened to have found a saber crystal in his journey). You'll wind up with lots of mundane stuff that soldiers carry - but that what selling/breaking down is for wow - kinda dark... I don't know about this one - one of the things that annoyed me no end of Baldur's Gate was being restricted to only being able to have up to 6 party members. If you decided you didn't want someone and dropped them, and then 6 levels later realise that you want them again - they're 6 levels weaker and makes it that much harder... I love KOTOR's function that everyone's working/hanging around on your ship and you can use who you need each time. Great idea. Could be interesting - and cause people to forever regret carrying that saber around at the wrong time, plus it could be really harsh to DS players - but would likely increase replayability that much more...this has definite merit. One of my favourite quests in K1 was the Genoharadan (sp?) sub-plot. More things like that would be awesome! Could be tough to accurately implement...but has potential. I hated the reputation system in BG2, it made it so badly unbalanced against Evil players. I've loved how KOTOR actually promotes DS playing by making some parts easier/better to do if you're evil. Depending on how this is implemented (and balanced) it could work - but I'd be doubtful... Again with more realism - really good. I read something in NWN2 (which I want to play but don't have a system to run it on ) and noticed it had something about a background feat or something. Various D&D supplement books include background feats - that could be fantastic for further character variety (and thus replayability). All in all - great points made there Mortis, I can see a great game manifesting from some of those ideas. Oh - and to Accept - Bantha Riding...hell yes!!! Imagine playing 'chicken' against a Dark Jedi on another Bantha! Maybe try it with Tauntaun's on Hoth? -
Fightning with two double-bladed lightsabers
pantherus replied to D. Kain's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Remember that "Sunder" is the art of specifically aiming your attack at a person's weapon/armour with the intent of breaking it - it's not really the kind of thing that a lightsaber does - you can't exactly bludgeon someone's armour off with it Cortosis would practically just mean that if you were swiped at with a lightsaber you have a good chance of it deflecting rather than cutting through. As far as game mechanics - Cortosis armour would have a higher AC vs. Lightsabers as a special attribute... Frankly - I'd really rather not have to deal with damage to equipment - it's a part of games like Diablo that, while making it somewhat more real, really annoys me and gets in the way of running around and thwacking stuff -
I love that scene. That's one of my favorites. Yeah - I laughed my head off the first time that happened. I also love the first scene on Nar Shadaa when you are talking to the Troydarian (sp?) and trying to convince him to let you park there; if you try to use Force Persuade: [succes] Yes, you can leave your ship ere... [Failure] ...and by Yes, I mean NO!! I was just dying for him to say: "I'm a Troydarian! Mind tricks don't work on me! Only money!!"

"Hey look - a broken table-leg...and it's got a cortosis weave!!! I don't believe cortosis is "Invunerable" to lightsabers - just resistant...remember that lightsabers (should) cut through most things like a hot knife through butter... -

I just think anything different from a "no weapons or armour" 'duel' where you basically select attack (or power/flurry if it's good enough) and then sit back pressing the button to do it again, and again, and again, and again...watching the two fighters look they're wrestling for a chocolate bar. -

I agree. Even if it was only "for show only" dodging motions or something, it would be better than them standing stock-still. Definately agree. Maybe co-ordinating them somewhat with what moves ARE taking place - like if an attack misses - the defender blocks or ducks it for a bit more realism. Also with the unarmed combat - I think more punches/kicks would look much better than the weird grappling stuff that KOTOR2 seemed to display A LOT, especially in the Handmaiden duels. Speaking of which - I am a HUGE fan of duel-style side-quests. I reckon they're lots of fun and you get a real sense of completion when you do them. It's a really common thing to do (KOTOR 1 - Duel Arena, KOTOR 2 - Handmaidens & Mandalorian Duel rings, Jade Empire - Tournament Arena, Fable - Arena & Unarmed Duel Rings, etc etc) but for me, it's often the most fun part of the game. I'd love for the character in K3 to be on a planet with a huge Tournamet Arena, and you fight in various matches that have specific rules for them that you can use your whole party at some stage. For each match, you could 1, 2, or 3 (or 4?) party members to fight, depending on specification, which would help the usefulness of some characters. Examples: - Swords only - Blasters only (make blaster-focussed NPCs have a specific use) - Droids only (if you have, like, 3 droids in your team by this stage, you can send just them (not your PC) into the duel and they work together. The expert droid (T3?) could be moving around disabling some droids and stuff while the combat droid(s) (HK?) blasts them...you control who you want. - Solo, Duo, or Team duels against similarly balanced foes. - Wookies only!!! The dueling rules in K2 were a cool concept - they should build on them. make them more than just what you can and can't use/wear/weild; go the whole hog with characters you can use and things like that - I would love that so much!!! -

Ewoks - the TRUE evil of the SW Universe! YUB YUB!! -
Yeah - you tend to want to keep them around...like a loyalty thing...unless you REALLY don't like them

Nope, Anakin lost his right hand to Dooku and his left hand to Obi-Wan (along with both legs). Then again Vader does have more organic parts than Grevious, who was basicly internal organs in a duraplast shell. In ROTS it shows Vader clawing his way from the lava with his mechanical hand... Now that's just silly...I like it!!

Nice I've always like this one: "A Husband and Wife has a fluid relationship, and the man is asked how they keep things working so well without many disagreements. The man responds 'Well, I make all the major decisions, and she makes all the minor decisions. So she decides trivial things like: where we live, what car we have, where the kids go to school, how we spend our money...that kind of stuff.' His friend then asks 'So, what do YOU decide then?' The man responds 'I make all the major decisions, like what do to about global warming, politics, that kind of stuff!'" Anyway - thanks for the advice everybody, I've got a much better idea about where to be aiming and working at the moment. Getting a PC and gaming stuff may take a year or so to get due to finances, but it's a goal none-the-less.

"That is insignificant, next to the power of the force."

KotoR 3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion, Part 22

In KOTOR - Melee is blatantly overpowered compared to ranged combat. There are a few reasons why swords are in there: 1) They give you a non-lightsaber melee option; useful when you either don't have a lightsaber (i.e. before you get it) or for a non-jedi to be melee. 2) They give you a melee weapon that doesn't do energy damage. Since enemies use energy shields freely, especially later in the game, that kinda helpful 3) as Tale said - this is a fantasy game, with fantasy elements; and you can't have fantasy without swords. Think about it - Sword & Sorcery -> Lightsaber & Force... I would seriously love to see a game using the gameplay and functionality of KOTOR games transitioned back into a D&D universe. Baldur's Gate still just didn't cut it for me...admittedly I haven't played NWN yet, is that more like it? ...ahem...KOTOR III !!! But yeah, I personally love the swords in the game; but I'd love to have blaster's more reasonably powered to make them more useful. -
