Question About Copy Protection (PC version)
Spider replied to Daracus's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Ah, but what Tigranes said (and you claimed was incorrect) was that it forces you to install games in the steam-folders. I know you can change where Steam goes, but what I want is control over where each individual game goes. -
Question About Copy Protection (PC version)

For me, steam launches in about 15 seconds. It does not start with the computer or anything like that. I don't think that's too bad. -
Question About Copy Protection (PC version)
Spider replied to Daracus's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
How do I specify where to install Steam games? Specifically, with Steam on drive c, how do I get it to install games on drive d? I was under the impresison this oculdn't be done. -
I don't know exactly how much space is available in that box, but ATI's 5-series is the current performance leader, at least if you count performance/price. The new NVidia card has a slight performance edge compared to their single GPU counterparts, but their flagship is priced closely to the 5970, which has them beat. Now, the 5970 is basically two 5850 combined, with a bit more ram I think. So you could buy two 5850 in crossifre to get similar performance. You could also get two 5870 for very good (but more expensive) performance. I don't know if either of these options will fit in your case, but if they don't I don't think the new NVidia cards will either (I seem to recall they are larger, but I'm not sure). If nothing fits, you could always get a new case to go with your new graphics card. Corsair's Obsidian series is supposedly very good with water cooling and should have decent space. 800D if you like transparent side and/or hotswap, otherwise 700D.

I loved the original Syndicate, but Wars wasn't as good (but still good). Mostly it was the premise in the sequel that was a bit so-so. In the original you played as a corporation bent on taking over the world. In the second you had already taken over the world and had to deal with factions rebelling. And religious fanatics. Especially the latter felt out of place. But a remake would be nice, especially if it's similar in gameplay.

According to Moby Games he made a game called FlipIt in 2004. But he's not listed for Drakensang. But there is an interview with him about Drakensang (in german) so it's an easy mistake to make I guess. I jsut saw an english link to it where it did indeed say that he wasn't involved in the game. Which makes the original point even worse than it already was.

Little voice acting, bad writing, badly explained mechanics, boring and one dimensional quests, dull art design. Off the top of my head. But I wasn't basing the comment on Drakensang alone. I'll say this for it though, it was a million times better than Two Worlds.
-
I seriously doubt that, certainly not Europe as a whole! Certianly not Europe as a whole. But games like Drakensang and The Witcher certainly feel like they're lower budget than many games from stateside. The Witcher less so than Drakensang though. When I said cheaper I meant that the games can get away with lower production values, not that the workforce wants less pay. There are exceptions of course, game studios that work directly for a North American publisher for instance (like DICE). But I suppose maybe it's just more independent games in general, rather than a european phenomenon specifically.

A million flies can't be wrong - eat ****. I'm just arguing that a game that sells millions of copies can harldy be considered a fail. Especially when you say Drakensang is a win, a game which sold less, had worse writing and was incredibly boring. Maybe it had little better graphics, but I'm not even sure I think that. A game that sells millions is not a fail for a commercial company. I don't know how well Drakensang did, but I have a hunch that if an Obsisidan game had those numbers, it would definitely be considered a failure. (I think that games are cheaper to make in Europe though, so the ROI on Drakensang was probably pretty decent)

Torment - Didn't sell particularly well. Barely enough to turn a profit over time. Drakensang - Don't know how it did, but it was boring and poorly written. It hasn' recieved much hype, so I doubt it sold much more than Torment. Kotor 2 - sold millions of copies. Nwn 2 - sold millions of copies. Motb - sold well enough to warrant a second expansion and was way, way better than Drakensang. SoZ - was an interesting expansion that added many interesting new elements to NwN 2. Did what it set out to do perfectly. Also had better writing than Drakensang. Alpha Protocol - A game that feels interesting and fresh. Also a game which has the publishers support. We shouldn't forget the IWD-series either, which sold better than Torment as well. So it seems to me like Bis/Obsidian has been doing fine without Henkel. That is not to say they would have done worse with him. I'm sure he is good at what he does.

The game did feel more crash prone in the expansion. But it wasn't really that bad for me. Maybe 5-6 crashes in total (compared to 1 or two in the original). So while annoying, nothing game-breaking. The memory leak I never noticed. Maybe 4GB of RAM is enough to not suffer from that? And I'm running Win 7 64 bit.
-
Not true. What bugs are you refering to? I didn't encounter a single one in my playthrough. On PeeCee. Power of Blood not carrying over, Pick-pocketing being borked, more prone to crashes than before the expansion, but after that not much.

Combat is still fun, but definitely not as challenging.I think I've had one party-wipe so far and that was mostly because I was sloppy and careless. Second time when I paid attention to that fight, no character went down.
-
I can't argue that. Personally, I'd take the boobie cards as well. AT least they don't have bad dialogue. I don't know. True enough for the cards themselves, but the dialogue you had to suffer through to get them was at times quite horrendous.

Played some more. I think the new companions are more interesting than in the original overall. Not by much, and the best characters from DA:O are better than this bunch, but these ones are more even. Except Oghren, but he doesn't count since he's a DA:O character. Is it just me or does the expansion seem to be a bit... easy. It could just be an example of familiarity with the rules making it all easier. But even taking that into account, it still feels easier. Story so far seems to be on the same level and also seem to follow the standard bioware formula (closed beginning, branching middle, closed end), but I'm not complaining. Gameplay is still fun, but it's starting to get hard to keep track of all those talents. I'm glad I bought a wide screen a while back, on my old, the talents wouldn't have fit in the bar. Especially not for mages.
-
Tried importing again, still says (Class name not found) as the talent group title, and the talents themselves has no name and no description. And don't do anything when activated.
-
And even that feels high. That game was just awful. It's like they took the worst parts of Oblivion and the Gothic series and merged them into one game. With even worse writing and voice acting.

Delivery this time was much, much faster. Which means I got Awakening today. So far I like it, but I've only gotten an hour of playtime in, so I can't say too much yet. One thing bugs me though. In Warden's Keep I did drink the blood potion to get a couple of extra talents. I still have those talents on my character, but they're from (unknown class) and has no text. Nor do they seem to have any effect. If they're removing them as they do with other DLC-stuff, then please also remove them from my talent-page. Looking at them but being unable to use them is most annoying. Of course, I'd much prefer to just have them. Also, isn't Duncan's sword and Duncan's dagger items from Return to Ostagar? Why could I keep those, but not Star Fang? While it's true that I won't need them with all the tier 8 and 9 stuff that will be in the expansion, but it would be nice to let my character keep all he fought for in the main game. Especially if they allow some items, but not others.
-
What was his explanation? I think it sounds like a weird decision overall, it's not like those items are going to be overpowered in Awakenings.
-
Yeah, they could have skipped patches entirely and most people wouldn't even notice. I'm glad they didn't though, patching makes it an even better game.
-
What hyped character did they kill?
-
I have it pre-ordered and got my shipping confirmed e-mail today. So I'll be getting it sometime next week I hope. It takes about a week since I ordered it from the UK. I am very excited to play it. I loved the first one so much I even bought Return to Ostagar. So I'm expect some long game sessions in the near future.

Afaik the only thing geohoot said was that he had access to some inner workings of the PS3, which could possibly lead to a crack, but it hasn't been cracked as far as piracy is concerned (or anything else for that matter, he was on the path, but there hasn't been anything released). High cost of media is a non-issue if you can play the games from the harddrive.

Psychonauts, you heretic. Also Dragon Age and Batman: Arkham Asykum.
