The question was being used to test the "quality of life" standard withteeth was using. But that's okay, u can ruin it.

But he also likes to play the victim, yes? The "I didn't ask for this war" line?

Bush? Yeah. WITHTEETH: Let me throw this at you. Since Americans generally enjoy the highest standard of living on Earth, does it then follow that our culture is the best? Wouldn't it then follow that it is right for us to enforce our cultural standards and norms on others, so that they may reap the benefits? Would a totalitarian government that eliminates poverty and hunger be better than a free society with some poverty?

If wikipedia cites something, why not just use the cited material? This is the problem that a lot of profs have with Wikipedia. You're not using a reference, you're using a reference of a reference. Most people won't even check the cited material. That's not even getting into the problem of peer review. "Otherwise it is way to easy to end up plagerizing." Plagiarizing who, exactly?

you're right, hades should just argue with someone, even if he agrees, because you think it is better to argue than to actually reach a common ground. taks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're not getting it. It wouldn't be a problem if it happened just once. Case in point. It's not anything that can be overcome, but it's a bad habit to have.

It's a good resource if you want to figure out random internet crap, but as a resource for other things it's useless. I know a lot of professors that will outright fail a student if he/she tries to use wikipedia as a reference.

Neverwinter Nights: Darkness over Daggerford
Pop replied to jaguars4ever's topic in Computer and Console
Seems to be a pretty decent NWN mod. It's in the FR, so that's good. One thing I never really liked about the Premium modules were the undercooked settings. Now what's this I hear about BG2 mods? -
New community patch released today.

I'll ask if Extraction Point has a refried J-horror plotline just like its predecessor! Gameplay was reasonably fun (could've done with some more enemy variety, which hopefully they've addressed in this one) but trying to get excited over a plot that plays like a retarded love child of Akira and The Ring is a bit much to ask

It's a good idea, but it will never happen. I prefer my politics to be practical, I got too much into impractical politics (ie libertarianism) in my late teens, only to get burned out during the election. I suppose I'd better just come out and say it: 6ftIR/Hades, you bow too easily. You're not arguing, and at times you run pretty close to using the relativistic fallacy. Frankly, this is hard to deal with.

THE SHIELD! THE SHIELD! The first 3 seasons are kind of... draggy, somewhat. But the 4th and 5th season (featuring Glenn Close and Forest Whitaker, respectively) are really bold, and very tense. The 5th season finale was incredibly ballsy.

I know this Canadian guy who I correspond with, and he sent me 4 mix CDs of various things, 2 of which have no tracklistings. But I know half of what I'm listening to. 13 & God - Perfect Speed Bonobo - Silver I Am X - President I'm also digging the new Beck. Definitely better than Guero, which was 90% polish, imho.

As for the Hobbit deal, I had read that MGM has optioned the rights, and they are planning on using them. Whether or not it has anything to do with the LOTR trilogy is unclear, at least as of now.

So... I've heard conflicting reports. Is Gothic good, okay or terrible?
-
Yeah, I know a lot of people who love games like Animal Crossing, which I don't believe has any death in it. Secondlife also draws some people, but I think it's boring, and it's got some serious security issues. I read an academic paper a few years ago about how the Everquest world was technically the 74th(?) weathiest nation on Earth. That was before WoW came in and dominated MMOs.

I thought they did a serviceable job. Have you guys played an epic level PnP D&D campaign? It's incredibly difficult to DM, because a 40th level barbarian will smoke anything, and they're insanely hard to kill without resorting to dirty tricks. I had to send my players through a dozen elder shadow dragons at once to get them to die. There was no suspense at all. By comparison, ToB can be pretty challenging, especially if you're playing a spellcaster. I also like it because it was a fittingly epic ending to the Bhaalspawn series :D

"But surely the teleporter is the most convenient way of traveling. You will simply appear wherever you wanted to be. In fact, given that the machine works without error you are in greater risk of dying in an accident when you use more conventional methods. Why, then, wouldn't you prefer the teleporter?" If the machine works without error, not doing any bodily or psychological harm to its subject, then the issue of whether or not to use it becomes one of preference, and thus the thrust of the question is lost. If a person is "copied" and the original person's physical body is destroyed, then it would be argued that the machine isn't without error. If we can prove, through observation (probably commencing over many decades) that the person coming out is indeed the physical, emotional, and psychological clone of the person going in, perhaps there would be some lifting of the stigma surrounding the tech. The metaphysical concerns brought up would then be relegated to philosophers and clergymen. This is all assuming that the person coming out of the machine doesn't develop schizophrenia, in which case that would be very Philip K. **** (bah!). But even all of that is assuming that the machine works without a hitch, and there are several physical impossibilities attached to such a machine. It could possibly break the second law of thermodynamics. Plus, if you're destroying something in one place and remaking it in another, you're essentially creating something out of nothing. Once you get past that, you'll probably encounter poblems with the finished product, possibly damage to one's DNA not unlike an actual clone, whose cells degenerate at a greater rate than normal.

This sounds pretty similar to the process posited in Micheal Crichton's Timeline. Except in that case the "teleportation" was time-travel related and destroyed the original copy of the object to be teleported. That having been said, without a good reason (ie the world is blowing up if I can't press a button in Singapore in an hour) it's simply a matter of convenience, in which case I'll just take my chances on a plane, or in a car. Is there, in fact, a point to this excercise in judgement?

I kind of like the book better, David Fincher's direction relies on a lot of flashy CG (Chuck's dialogue is what makes the movie good, imo) but Chuck's come out and said that he prefers the movie's ending. I agree, the Christ parable turn the book took at the end was kind of weird. Interesting aside: If you send Chuck Palahnuik a fan letter, he will send you something back (when he gets to you) I watched Fog of War. Twas good.

no no, think of the mods. If they make it moddable. I keep thinking how a SPECIAL-esque perk system could spice things up.

Apparently this guy saw the script. I'm going to go huddle in a corner.

Oblivion should run fine on your machine. It runs adequately on my 2.7 ghz, 1 gig RAM, 6600oc machine at 1024x768. That's after the graphic tweak mods, too. As for new games.... there really aren't that many new ones that I dig, personally. When I need a new game I usually check out old games. I've recently been playing a lot of odd Sega RPGs on my emulator.

Working at Taco Bell is worse. If a customer doesn't like what they got, they can force you to eat it. On the other hand, if you work at 7/11 you can deny service to anyone for no reason at all (although corporate would prefer an explanation if the customer complains) the best way to do this is to argue with them until they swear. At 7/11, use of profanity is just cause to kick someone out of your store.

Adam the clown is in wonderland plaza, which is the western part of the mall. The spaceship ride that rolls around is out of control, and if you try and turn it off he'll show up. I went at him with a hunting knife, which is a common weapon a lot of zombies hold. It's fast enough that he can't defend himself when he recoils from a hit. I was able to just hit him once and then slice him to death while he was sitting there. That works for quite a few of the psychos, actually. In the paradise plaza (just outside the warehouse on the East end) there are 2 bookstores. One of them is small, and it has a hardware book. There's a larger bookstore that has a blade book, which you can also use. The third book (survival) you have to earn by beating the Hatchet Man vietnam psycho at the north end of the mall. Really, the 2 books should keep you pretty much set, but having all 3 makes you unstoppable.
