I don't know about Merrill, but Anders shows clear interest in women in DA:A and it's strongly implied he was involved with that dude that got turned tranquil he tried to rescue in the Chantry. Regardless, I don't think it is necessary for a character to talk about their interest in both or any gender to be bi and not be considered player-sexual, especially in a world where being gay/bi isn't very accepted. I think the whole being attracted regardless of personality is something separate which is everywhere for some reason. Probably because they don't want to lock people out of content, idk. That is what I would consider the true player-sexual component. It would be nice if Deadfire addressed it but I have a sneaking suspicion it won't.

"They all look like ass." for one thing. And again acknowledgement that something's toxic doesn't mean moralizing. It just means not pretending like most games do that the codependent relationship that's occurring is a healthy relationship that'll last forever (let alone the ignoring of the stress those relationships cause) and ever and all your friends are super supportive. It adds depth if anything. There's a great deal of conflict and drama that's being ignored for the yay isn't love grand <3 Hell even in a healthy relationship game relationships are often extremely shallow. You're making an argument that I did not make. As for 1. It could be anyone. Doesn't have to be a certain person because generally speaking in an toxic relationship more than one person notices. Most of the time someone in the relationship realizes it but stays for any matter of reasons. As for 2. I'd say its crap like the PC acting as the NPCs mother and constantly giving emotional support only for the NPC to turn around and say hilarious things like "Oh I totally forgot your whole family was killed my bad." (assuming it's even brought up which let's face it a lot of the times its not) like the imbalance isn't subtle in games. Or having your boss who holds your life in the palm of their hand maybe acknowledging how kind of iffy consent is in those scenarios instead of having everyone ignore it as though that makes sense. > "They all look like ass." for one thing. They do! > It just means not pretending like most games do that the codependent relationship that's occurring is a healthy relationship > even in a healthy relationship game relationships are often extremely shallow. Define what is and isn't 'healthy'. You're making a judgement call on what is a healthy relationship but you're only one person. Why should you get to decide that? > As for 1. It could be anyone. Doesn't have to be a certain person because generally speaking in an toxic relationship more than one person notices. Most of the time someone in the relationship realizes it but stays for any matter of reasons. So you're saying an NPC would comment on the relationship or something? How should the NPC comment? What if the NPC is evil, and sees a 'toxic' relationship in progress (which you still haven't defined, but whatever, let's roll with it for the sake of argument), and comments positively? Would that be problematic? That makes no sense at all. > Or having your boss who holds your life in the palm of their hand maybe acknowledging how kind of iffy consent is in those scenarios instead of having everyone ignore it as though that makes sense. That sounds hamfisted and unnecessary. What if I get a kick out of being dominated by my boss? What if I find the concept of a discussion of 'consent' to be really off-putting? Is that problematic? Why wouldn't companions comment? In most games with romance they comment anyway. Rather than saying something like "oh I saw you two sneak off last night" with this new system of the chars forming friendships with each other maybe they get protective of your LI, like the two of you are having a conversation, you say something cruel and they interject with, "Hey, you need to knock it off" or "Leave x alone, will you?" And yeah if a character is evil and they comment positively then that would make sense, but there isn't really any good/evil system anymore. It would have to make more sense with the character, like a racist, an abuse victim who wants to strike back at the world, etc. Perhaps they might congratulate you on being "firm" with your LI or "putting them in their place."

Just a historical point. Christianity wasn't anti-natural philosophy. They were in fact large funders (the biggest at several points) of it and much the the technology and science of Europe saved during the Middle Ages was by priests and monks. The church vs science thing came after the time period poe is roughly set in. Of course the Pillars gods want knowledge hidden Not all of them. The only ones that make a huge deal about it as a general thing are Wael and Ondra. The others mostly just don't want it known they're animantic constructs and some are willing to risk that knowledge spreading simply because it's in their nature to do so (Abydon, Galawain, Magran). I don't know Magran seemed pretty on board with Woedica's plan. You may be right about the other two though. Abydon is progress right and wanted to save the Engwithans? (though that may have just been because he liked old traditions) I don't know enough about Galawain.

But as we saw in the first game Pallegina is an anti-god paladin. Paladins in PoE merely stick to strong ideals, not necessarily a religion.

Baby on Board
Elarie replied to ThatUndeadLegacy's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Can I ask you which other choices there were? I know there are these three, but if there are more, please do share! ; - Kindnap the baby. - poison ...was Simion his name? Or kill him in the natural way. - Sacrifice the Baby -Sacrifice the baby for Simoc -Sacrifice the baby and kill Simoc (but why though?) -Take baby, kill Simoc -Take baby, don't kill Simoc -Give baby to a good family, kill Simoc -Ignore the quest Those are the ones listed on the survey You can give the baby to another fam?? HOW?? I have no idea! I can't find it anywhere online. But 44% of people did it. That's why I was saying my Watcher would have done that, but I ain't replaying so Vela is living in Caed Nua now with my companions. Maybe someone else can illuminate. -

I took her thinking, I wish I could give her to a good family. I'll headcanon that. Then when I read the survey options I saw wait what, that was a choice? Why did I not see that? I would have done that. Ah well, I guess now my new headcanon is she is living in Caed Nua with my extra companions while I am adventuring around. -
Hello! By all means, this is the first legit concern I have seen on these forum regarding full VO. It all depends on what those three DLCs will be. Me, like most I believe, am interested in story content. Commitment to full VO indeed increases production budget if they are to fit into the game. But who is to say that all three will be story expansions? What if the meatiest of the DLCs will be an expansion, while two other will be smaller DLCs to keep Deadfire pop up, before the 3rd one is released? In some streames when talking about additonal ship mechanics he mentioned that it could appear as DLC/free content update. What is speculation? Unintentional reveal? Who knows Only time will tell. I am bracing myself for some of the DLCs to not be White Marches. Since they said that most people didn't like the expansion in the middle, I would guess it would be at the end. That leaves room for proper interaction without having to add hundreds of extra variable interactions in the middle. As for not all the DLC being story stuff, maybe. They did say some stuff would be added post-launch but it sounded like in a patch to me. $10 equals smaller than White March though.

Character Import
Elarie replied to wpmaura's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Usually I hate returning to lvl 1 in a sequel, but in this case I don't mind so much because there are sub-classes and multi-classes now. If they didn't do that you would be locked out of all of them (or way more leveled up in one of your two multi-classes) by playing the first game. Just having it be a save-game import makes more sense. -
Saying someone who is bi/gay is biased on the issue of equality makes about as much sense as saying someone who is hetero does. I don't think they add them to promote social justice. They add them to include as much of their player base as they feasibly can. And because like you said it's now their brand and monies. I suspect with Obsidian's player base the community you are worried about won't happen. (Although the split in the communities surprises me with how many Bioware sequels Obsidian made)

Well that is just a lie. There was also his struggle with his father and wanting to become a knight and so forth. And he can fall and become sort of messed up, that was fun. The part you are referencing was only part of the plot in chapter 2, hardly two halves of the entire thing. Have you read any of my posts on this subject? Because this makes no sense if you have. In any case my main character is both female and married so she already has a love interest. I don't think I said anything about equality. Eder means well he was just raised in another culture. Also I am not sure what you are referring to in how he leveled up. Eh I've lost track of the dude who said the thing about equal amounts of love interests and how the love interests aren't fair between men and women because Xoti's a zeolot, etc. I was trying to say well if Xoti being a zeolot is a problem they seem to have made racism a big enough part of Eder's character that it is always Josh's example. I am bad at using the quotey things, which is why I never use them, but I decided to try something new. Didn't mean to seem like I was going after you. As for the thing with Anomen, I totally forgot the whole fallen knight thing, you're totally right. It's been years since I played BG2. I still think it makes it hard to be a great romance when the MC is repeatedly compared to a (female) dead family member, but I can see why you'd enjoy it.
-
Well I played a female and I thought the Anomen romance was fine. I have certainly seen worse romances since then. Besides, now there are a ton of obnoxious romances you can mod in if you want something else. I think Beamdog even put them in their new edition. I mean if you were a man you had to romance an elf and I can think of few worse fates. The Anomen romance was half my sister is dead, and half oh by the way you remind of my sister Don't worry boys there will be a love interest for you. If it makes you feel better about the equality Eder just went up a level in racist so yay?
