  1. Athlon-64 does give better gaming performance but the price you shell out for something like an FX-55 Processor is around $1000. Also, P4 gives better multitasking performance than an Athlon-64. Besides, when Longhorn comes out, there will be better processors than Athlon-64 FX-55 which is why I'd settle with an Intel Xeon or P4 Solution. Actually, Supermicro makes Intel SLi Boards w/ DDR2 Memory. I've seen their Dual Xeon board w/ SLi that retails around 4k. Thats a complete waste of money which is why its not worth buying a Dual Xeon SLI since so few companies make it and it is terribly overpriced.

    EDIT :

Another reason I chose Intel over AMD was DDR2 memory. The earlier DDR2 memory was getting beaten by older DDR but now with certain revisions, DDR2 is whooping DDR's ass. They've already made DDR2 800MHz modules but they are still in testing...

Er, the P4 Extreme Edition is like $1000 as well "

AMD still lead in most of the gaming benchmarks, despite DDR2 and what have you. But... I'm starting a holy war! Must escaaaaaaape...

  2. I think a lot of new cross platform games are being built for the next gen consoles (Xbox2, PS3) as well as the PC, and not for the existing consoles, now (I know this is the case with TES IV: Oblivion). The next gen platforms are a lot less limited and so shrinking games so that they fit on an ageing console will be less of an issue.

  3. It's 60-70% better performance than a single 6600GT card... (and about the same as two 6600GT cards in SLI configuration, since that's basically what that board is squishing onto one card)

Thats incorrect because SLI gives a 100% increase in performance. This is the equivalent of SLI but on one card. Thus, if you connect 2 of these cards, you will get 4x better performance than 1 6600gt.

It also said that the card performs better than the 6800 Ultra and the X850 XT PE AT LOWER RESOLUTIONS.

Also, considering the fact that this card will be cheaper, I'd rather get it but only after a decent site gives it a good review.

SLI theoretically gives a 100% performance increase. In practice it almost never reaches that figure. Looking at the various benchmarks SLI seems to usually give 60-70% in GPU limited situations.

The Pabster has only published a 3DMark score (which is marginally useful at the best of times). It's a nice high one but I suspect it paints the card in a better light than most games will -- there's no reason to expect it'll perform anything but identically to two single-GPU 6600GT cards, and in most benchmarks the dual 6600GT setup has lost out to single 6800GT/Ultra. So I'd say go for it if you can find it for less than a 6800GT card, but not otherwise.

I'd also expect this card to be more likely to have driver issues than a single-GPU card.

Can you really SLI two of them? That would be interesting o:)

  4. Apparently, they have put 2 6600GT GPUs on the same board. This gives a 60-70% better performance then the 6800 Ultra EE or the X850 XT PE.  Its called the Gigabyte 3D1 card but its not out for sale yet. The price however is expected to be less than the 6800 Ultra EE or the X850 XT PE. The only thing that they've had a problem is that this card does not perform as well at higher resolutions than the Ultra EE or the XT PE...

I'd suggest that a single 6800GT will perform about the same and is likely to have fewer issues.

The 6800 is the 12 pipeline version, the 6800GT (and Ultra) have 16 pipelines. I have a 6800GT, they're well worth it, very shiny :)

It looks like the refreshes are rather underwhelming (certainly the X850 XT PE is unnoticeably better than the X800 XT PE); R520 et al aren't expected until 2H 2005, so don't hold your breath :)

  5. i'm working on my masters degree(5 years) in mathmatics(algebra) and hopefully i'll be come may...

however, i spend most of my time watching and playing football(the european version, not that stupid american kind...)... <_<

    ps.

almost forgot. i also like to consume alcohol during the weekends... :p

Isn't that taken as read with the student thing... hold on. Only at weekends?? :ermm::huh::thumbsup:

  6. 12 is agood number as long as they are well developed.

I still long for the vast choice of Baldur's Gate. I don't even remember who they all were. I'd also like proper party based combat with six (or more!) party members, vast explorability, ... *sigh* :oo:)"

I suppose I'd better get active in the Obsidian Suggestions board if I want a game like that. It seems to have gone out of fashion along with isometric graphics.

12 is cool :o I'm especially looking forward to really getting to know T3.

  7. correction to the poll, that should say 9 givens (relating to kotor)...i had a stupid moment thinking there were 10 joinable npcs in kotor...

I think you were right with 10.

There are only 9 slots. But the slot that Trask starts off with ends up being used by someone else - Candy I think.

    *geekifies*

Pretty sure it's Bastila. The slots were used in alphabetical order of NPC name and filled left-to-right then top-to-bottom, and Trask occupied the first slot (top left) :oo:)

  8. if u DONT have a woman, or man, in real life...u shouldnt be answering these poles...u need to go out and have a life...but if ur hooked up, why not? its just for fun....its roleplaying.....

So you're saying there can't be any roleplaying from single people?

Odd, because most roleplayers I know are single. Including me(by choice).

No I'm just saying it's sad if u can't r omance anyone in real life and the only play you get is thru roleplaying....thats sad...u should get ur life together first.....then roleplay to escape from every day **** and have fun....but I think its weird when ppl roleplay love interests and stuff but they are too afraid to talk to opposite sex in REAL life....dont forget these are just games folks

Ooooooh. Aren't we being judgmental today.

BTW O poll starting person, you spelled "Atris" wrong. :ermm:

  9. I've never pulled off a 30 hour gaming session! :p Must have been born old ;)

Mind you I did spend all four weeks of my Easter holiday one year playing Baldur's Gate for a good 12 hours a day (having bought it on the first day of the holiday)... now that's a properly long game :)

These days since I have a job that'd be my entire holiday allowance of the year! :o:o OTOH, I can think of worse things to do with annual leave...

  10. Atris is your avatar. The white haired woman. Nothing has really been confirmed bout Atris apart from what she looks like and her name. Every1 here is certain she will be an active party member. If not every1, most ppl.

Was her name ever confirmed or did I miss it? :p

It wasn't. For all we know "Atris" is a hoax and the devs all double up laughing every time they see a post about her :D :devil:o:)
