The beta weekend is free. You are, after all, beta testing. Once the full game comes out, it'll be like any other game, you buy the game at retail price. No monthly fees, no hidden fees. And yes, the game in indeed infinitely better with people you know. Perhaps that's why I love the game so much.

I've observed my brother play in the WoW beta for many hours. Never had I seen anything remotely approaching what I consider fun. Fetch quests != fun. Pointless leveling != fun. Socializing with morons != fun. I wouldn't play this game even if it didn't have a monthly fee. Heck, with my precious limited gaming time, I wouldn't play it if I was PAID. Guild Wars, on the other hand, as already provided me with hours of fun during the beta. My guild is going very smoothly, and guild battles have been truly epic. I've spent countless hours simply planning my character (which I do for sp RPGs too anyway). Bias > u

Guild Wars > all MMORPGs combined

Having played through the TOEE demo and the POR2 full game, I can say with absolute conviction that TOEE combat is vastly superior in every way imaginable.

Paladins also get an impressive 2 skill pts / lvl, compared to the ranger's measly 6.

Wrong. Vivendi is still the publisher of the game. Now, imagine if Steam sold HL2 at a cheaper price. Say, 10 bucks cheaper. Given that Vivendi gets a smaller cut of the profits from Steam vs retail sales, which version do you think gamers with fast net access will buy, and how do you think Vivendi would react? At this point in time, Valve CAN'T sell the game cheaper, or it'd have an already angry publisher even angrier. It's not THE step forward, it's A step forward. Valve is a wealthy company, Vivendi didn't provide all of the 40 million bucks to finance the game. That being said, Valve STILL needs a publisher at this point, and the publisher wouldn't allow the Digital Distribution version of the game to be sold at a cheaper price or it'd affect the retail sales. *A* step forward. The world is still not rid of publishers just yet at this point in time.

Well, actually, back in the day, people were wondering when, OH WHEN, would a sequel to Pool of Radiance finally be made? Eventually, POR2 was being made, after so many years. But 'better late than never', people said! The wait would be worth it! The moral of the story is, Merry Christmas. And pray you don't get POR2 as a present.
