  1. Fahrenheit is around that time (maybe a bit shorter) and also didn't have a finished ending... DX:IW has around that time, and look what became of it... Sometimes (meaning often) a longer game (DX) will make more people buy another game (IW) than that shorter game will... Edited in quote...this topic goes fast Looks at Oblivion sales. Sees how LONG some people already played that even if the release is still so close... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> More bunk. A game like Deus Ex didn't make people buy IW because it was a long game. It made people buy IW because it was an excellent game, with fantastic story, excellent characters, etc. etc.
  2. Dunno about that. If that is so why do so many game have great starts and turn crappy in the end? Think Fahrenheit, Deus Ex, Kotor2, Planescape:Torment etc. etc. etc. I don't think a Kotor2-type ending will really stimulate further sales, while somebody who only played till Dantooine will most likely feel like buying the next game... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This makes no sense whatsoever. If a player couldn't have even been bothered to continue playing past Dantooine in the current game, why in the world would they think that the new game would be worthy purchase based on the previous game? "Oh yeah, Obsidian....they made that game that I couldn't even bother finishing for whatever reason, I'm totally getting this game."
  3. The only way you can interpret that is that the are aiming for a game that takes the average player 20hours to complete. Which means people like us will do it over the weekend. But it sounds dodgy, why would OE care if a player finishes the game or not when hes already bought it? What possible reason is there for shortening a game so that the maximum amount of players finish it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because people get enjoyment out of games that they complete. If the gamer loses interest because they feel things are going on too long, they'll have negative (or at least a less favourable) image of the game. Furthermore, keeping length shorter helps keep costs down. Just curious, do they teach any of this production stuff at your school?
  4. When it turns into his word against yours, its more proof than you have given so far.
  5. That would be a good thing. Give it to a kid who would put it to use. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He can do that whenever. By holding on to it, it means that if good games do come out for it, he won't need to go buy one.
  6. Oh, U8 was also still Richard Garriott's baby. It'd have been made in a similar style without EA. The best one had RT combat though. EGADS!
  7. If you've played the old ultima games, then how come you keep saying that FPS is not an acceptable perspective for a "true" RPG game? I'm surprised you could handle some of the newer (and better) ones, what with the lack of custom character creation and all. WC6? I quit after 3 because Prophecy was stupid and they were destroying all that I loved in 1, 2, and 3.
  8. I'm not saying forget the past, I'm saying stop living in the past. Besides, I'm not sure what you'd see in either Origin or Westwood.
  9. Stop living in the past.
  10. So in other words, the conservative government is exactly on par with every other government we've had in the past few decades.
  11. I hope this game absolutely rocks.
  12. If the game is good, I'll buy it. It's the only way to ensure more good games get made.
  13. Because it was given to him.
  14. Maybe they feel like they needed more commercial airliners??
  15. NHL

Absolutely. The other players on the team do nothing.
  16. Pfft, I often double post, so don't worry about it
  17. NHL

Oilers need to relax. Had a tough time handling the puck all night. If Roloson can keep up his play (same with the defense in terms of pouncing on loose pucks and cutting off drives to the net), Oilers should still be optimistic. But yeesh...stop with the unforced turnovers.
  18. For your information Pakistan's and India's strongest A-bombs are 50KT yield uranium bombs, neither of them have thermonuclear warheads.... PS - when India says they have a 60KT thermonuclear device then know they are full of sh*t as usual. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh, I figured you were around when they announced that they were able to make a fusion bomb. Add "India and Pakistan create Hydrogen Bombs" just prior to my earlier statement.
  19. Never heard anyone knock a game for being creative enough that death wasn't endgame, and actually could contribute to the story even. Furthermore, if a particular playing styles does make the game unnecessarily difficult, then that probably IS poor design. There should be conditions in place to ensure that character builds remain viable. Otherwise, they should have changed the character creation system. If creating a character with one set of major skills makes the game significantly more difficult than another build, then it's a design flaw. For instance, designers should not assume that players will adhere to the convention that most RPGs are heavy in combat. If a game is combat heavy, and character creation lets you pick your own skills, at the very least the character creation should at least warn the character not picking any combat skills will result in a much more difficult experience. Same goes for games like Arcanum, where failure to specialize (i.e. becoming a jack of all trades) makes the game significantly more difficult. If you want free character creation, you better design the game appropriately to support it. Besides, to me it doesn't even look like that's what Gromnir is complaining about. I certainly don't see how his playstyle was in any way playing it like one would play Diablo.
  20. I haven't played many alternate history games that were any good. Lionheart. Mortyr. SS is a good game thankfully, the altnerate history stuff just didn't intrigue me.
  21. Thermonuclear war has started in Pakistan/India.
  22. Though it seems "out of courtesy" is absent from your list.
  23. Which pretty much reinforces my previous statement that you have never actually played it.
  24. Excellent job. Going into a diatribe about people that reserve their swears as hiding something. The only hyperbole I see is the comment about the soccer moms. Even then, if it is just hyperbole, then you still believe it, even to a lesser extent.
