  1. Why no delays? The reason why people introduce a delay is because it demonstrates the problem. You are destroying the molecules of the original person. Besides, it wouldn't be possible to do it without a delay. There's going to be an instant where both of you exist (when it verifies that the genetic code is correct). Nothing can be done instantaneously. And even if it was, your "teleportation" still isn't teleportation. It's simply copying and destroying the original.
  2. So what exactly would you (as in your consciousness, as in what you perceive, and all that jazz) if the original host wasn't destroyed? Because essentially all your teleporter does is clone you. Let's look at it this way. Say I clone you. You have a few minutes of recognizing that your clone is at whatever destination you wanted. I then said you had to be vapourized. Would you be content with this?
  3. My car's windshield was smashed! :D
  4. I think so. Look at it this way. If I cloned you, would you expect that you'd also have conscious control over your clone? EDIT: I guess this applies to mkreku as well.
  5. It has nothing to do with a soul. Imagine someone made a clone of you. Why would you expect to have conscious control over that clone? So when you die in the teleportation process, you yourself no longer exist, but rather your clone. Now your clone is a perfect replica of you, so to every other 3rd party observer, it looks and acts just like you. And it probably would. But the fact of the matter would still be that YOUR consciousness has been killed.
  6. I said no because, after thinking about it for a moment, it wouldn't really be "me." My transported self would like fine and would act like normal, but my myself, and my consciousness, has been vapourized. There's no reason why my consciousness should transport as well. The interesting conundrum is that, to a 3rd party, the technology looks impressive. Because to them, the product going in is essentially the exact same as the product coming out. So you could see 1000s of people all doing it, and it would all look rather fantastic and impressive. Because from your perspective, it looks flawless.
  7. I'm curious if the situation would actually improve if the USA just upped and left Iraq.
  8. It's gaming prime time. A few of the game I have been interested in have just gone gold as well.
  9. Wait a minute. I change my answer to no.
  10. Yes. EDIT: Yes to the teleportation question, not the soul question.

I haven't thought about it actually. Are they on sale? If you're interested in going and want someone to go with, let me know.

Oh, to clarify, by "new CBA," I meant the upcoming one. Because the current one won't allow it.
  13. I don't know. The 3 of us have a hard enough time squeezing in time for HOI2. THough a game like this probably doesn't require a 3-4 hour window to play.
  14. Because it's their gimmick. Just because you bought it hook, line, and sinker, doesn't make them alt accounts. I play multiplayer games with them. A "very valid view" of them? You're starting to sound like a broken record with this statement. Heh, whatever. I thought you liked threads evolving in their natural way. " For the record, boo alt accounts. Now I have to update my ignore list.
  15. Not at all. They aren't alts in any way shape or form, because they are completely different people. Posting asinine statements like "Close enough for government work" (which doesn't even really make sense in this case) is just pointless. However, the 6 Foot Invisible Rabbit is being posted by the same person as Judge Hades. (Coincidentally, it's also a way to, at least temporarily, by pass the ignore setting people may have put on your other account). For the record, I'm 100% against alternate accounts. I hated it when Ender used them, and I actually liked Ender. Not to mention a host of other absolutely bizarre stuff that happened because of an alternate account. They really don't serve any other purpose outside of possibly being deceitful. If someone wishes a new account for whatever reason, then there's no need for them to hold on to their previous one.

It's not "entirely" potential. Yes, you don't know necessarily how someone is going to perform in the NHL, and for the most part it is still potential. But it's not really a stretch that a player like Sidney Crosby is probably going to have a more successful career than Sven Butenschon. Then he's going to have to hope that the new CBA allows for contract renegotiations.

I'm curious about a contract like this. I mean, Magic Johnson signed a 25 year, $25 million contract when he first came into the NBA in 1980. Wayne Gretzky signed a 21 year contract as well. Clearly in both of these cases they weren't committed to the contract for those extreme lengths of time.
  18. Well, the weapons are essentially home made.

I heard it was in the works, but I didn't know the details. The newspaper commented that when both teams tendered their offers, there was only a $250,000 difference, so it seems like things are on the same page.
