  1. The reason I say to roll back to a previous driver is that people there have been problems noted with the more recent drivers especially for ATI cards. From having searched the threads it appers that 4.11 and 5.4 seem to be the best fro KOTOR 2. Hope it helps.
  2. I had a similar issue with the config file reading my card incorrectly as an Nvidia card when I have an ATI. I believe it may have to do with the Catalysy 5.12 drivers you have installed. Have you tried rolling them back ? I have 5.4 installed and the game runs well with them. Also when I installed 5.4 in correctly read my config. It's worth a shot if you haven't tried it.
  3. There is an excellent book by Thomas Barnett, "The Pentagon's New Map" that spends a great deal of time discussing the problems that currently plague many African nations. His work is insightful and provoking although he comes off a little arrogant at times. Barnett's theory essentially states that those areas that fall into the "non-integrated gap" (ie Middle East, Africa, and parts of South America) face simialr issues with regard to disenfranchisment and political and religious extremeism. I don't remember if he spoke in particular about Nigeria, but it could provide an interesting platform for your studies. I've included a link to an article in Esquire magazine, which eventually evolved into the book, it should give you a good idea if it's what you're looking for. By the way, what about the Nigerian conflict interests you? http://www.esquire.com/features/articles/2..._barnett_1.html
  4. I just read your response in the "truce possible" Thread and it sounded as if we're looking at these events in much the same way. Unless of course that's a faint smell of sarcasm I'm picking up.
  5. Chirac is concerned because he has a large, angry, and disenfranchised Muslim population in his country. Many of whom were behind the riots that plagued the country several months ago. I think by issuing a warning to Iran he's really talking to people within his own country... His message being if you participate in terrorism in this country Muslims abroad will suffer for it. Much the same way people feel that although most of Bin Laden's message was directed toward the West the sub-text was aimed at the people of Afganistan and the Middle East and saying, "I'm in charge and making decisions for Al Qaida despite you what you may have heard"
  6. To say that this war is only about oil is unrealistic and a gross over-simplification of the issues that lead to the war. There are myriad reasons the US is there, not all of which I agree with. Come to think of it, I personally don't think the US should be there at all. We should have spent the time destroying Al Qaida's network and suring up our borders and National Secuirty. AndContrary to what you may think I'm not blinded by patriotism and willing to sacrifice my self for my benevolent and altuistic governent(Sarcasm incase you didn't pick it up). If you read Barrett's book it describes our reasons for wanting to move closer to those area's he refers to as the 'GAP'(middle East, Africa, parts of South America) . The reasons he gives are not altruistic but realistic. The US and it's allies are better served by stablilizing and integrating these areas into the global economy. The more people in the economy the more consumers you have to sell your goods to you. It's the bedrock of capitalism. In addition, areas that are integrated are more productive, see longer life-spans for their inhabitants, their governments are more stable. You should also read Tom Friedman's "The World is Flat" which essential asserts the same thing, but concentrates more on the globalization aspects.
  7. If anyone is interested this is a link to my friends website. He has alot of great stuff in under "concepts" Here is the link http://www.paulvomero.com

  9. That last statement is so true. The world has turned a collective 'Blind Eye' to Africa. The problems Africa currently face makes the Middle East look like a playground. Part of the reason that the US invaded Iraq is to establish a foot hold in the Middle East and hopefully stablilize the region. This way they can use it as a launching point for the inevitable terrorist issues that will eventually spring forth from Africa. Notice that old american bases in Germany, France, and the the US are being closed so that those assets can be moved to REgions where they will eventually be needed. There is an excellent book called "The Penatgon's New Map" by Thomas Barnett which discusses all this.
  10. Stupid Question but did you use the "uninstall" feature when you removed KOTOR 2 from your system? If you didn't there may be entries left in your registry that are causing you problems.
  11. Currently there are over 200 hundred games that are bc for the 360. Typically you have to download a patch from xbox live in order to play on your 360. Here is a link to the xbox site. On the left hand side is links to the software you'll need and how to make it BC. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/s/starwarskotorsithlords/
  12. Unfortunately, that is a decision you're going to have to make. However, you should keep a couple of things in mind before you do anything. 1. Are you upgrading just for this game or for your overall system performance? My feeling is if you want to upgrade just to play KOTOR 2 than go out and get an XBOX and the console version of the game. It will probably cost you the same amount. 2. If you do decide to upgrade research prices and options thoroughly. 3. And lastly, upgrading your computer isn't rocket science (infact adding more RAM is pretty simple), but if you don't know what your doing you can really screw things up. From what I've read you don't sound as if you know alot about computers. If you feel that computers and computer gaming is something that interests you, there are numerous sites and FAQ's around the web devoted to upgrading your computer. I would seriously take the time to research them and make sure you're comfortable before you pop the top on your computer and dive in. So, I'm sorry I can't tell you what to do....In the end do some research and make the best decision for you and what you will eventually use your computer for. If your computer works fine for surfing the web and writing the occasional paper and that's all you're going to use it for than I would seriously consider the XBOX route. They're going to drop in price again shortly. But, should you decide you want to game take the time to research. You'll be surprised how much you learn about computers by gaming with them. Good Luck! Let me know what you decide.
  13. No....But it should be backwards compatiable with an Xbox version
  14. What it's saying is that you have two slots for RAM and currently you have one open. I would say get the video card, but that's up to you. If you get the graphics card it will free up the RAM that is currently being used by the integrated video card on your motherboard. In addition the 9600 se has 128mb of built in RAM, which decrease it's reliance on your system RAM. I still think your going to eventually need more RAM if you want to Game with this computer. Moreover additional RAM would help you overall system performance.
  15. That explains why you have such a wierd amount of RAM. YOU actually have 512 but part of that is allocated to the video card. For 63.99 you could add another 512 mb. This way you would have over 800 mb of RAM. If you wanted you could go crazy and drop two gig sticks in and have 2gb of RAM. Also that Radeon 9600 is a good card for 77.99.
  16. Go to Crucial Homepage and along the right hand side of the screen there is a button that says "Scan my system" At the next screen press continue then "accept" their license agreement. It will take a couple moments than a screen will appear that has their recomendations. The left side of the screen has your current set up and how much memory you can take. There is also a button that says "your Graphics Card" That will take you to their Graphics card recommendations.
  17. That's why I added the caveat "at the least the way they were intended." God knows I don't have enough money to buy a new Ge Force 7800 or whatever graphics card is the new flavor of the month. I'm playing KOTOR 2 with an ATI 9200 SE with 768 mb Ram on 2.4 p4 and it runs smooth but it doesn't look nearly as good as it could if I had a new Alienware ALX (I drool just thinking about it!) Unfortunately, today software is out in front of hardware and in order to keep up you have to upgrade. That's why console gaming is so popular. You drop 250 bucks and that's it. Granted you don't get everything you can with PC gaming but at least it's consistent. Also Newbert go to Crucial.com and have them scan your computer. It will tell you how many slots you have and how much RAM your computer can take. You could probably drop 512mb stick in there for about 60 bucks. The scan will also tell you what graphics cards are compatiable with your computer. This will give you some idea of how much iti would cost to upgrade.
  18. PC gaming is expensive. In order to play most of todays PC games, at least the way they were intended, you need to have a decent graphics card ($250.00), sound card ($100.00) and at the very least 1 gb of RAM. That's not even including the specs of the main system. Needlesss to say KOTOR 2 was fun on XBOX plus there's a lot of other great games on that system.
  19. Like Knight Hawk said in the other thread your best bet would be to get yourself some more RAM. Go to www.Crucial.com and they can scan your computer and telly you how much RAM your computer can take and how much it will cost. 1 GB of RAM will probably set you back 150.00. But in the end you'lll want it not just for games but your whole system will run better. If you have windows XP you should have at least 512mb.
  20. I read the KOTOR 2 trouble shooting guide and it includes this section attched below about intergrated Video cards. I think the combination of your integrated Video card with the fact that you have barely enough RAM is why your game is not working at all....Sorry Integrated Video Chipsets When your computer has an onboard video chip on the motherboard and the system only meets the minimum requirement for RAM, you may experience various problems that occur because the video chipset may use system memory for its video memory. You may experience the following issues:
  21. I don't mean to bump my own reply but does anyone know if I can get rid of the other ATIOGLXX.DLL files on my computer. Thanks
  22. I did a thorough search o f the forums and couldn't find anyone with this issue. I reached the part on Onderon where I have to flee Iziz. I get to the shuttle I see the movie of the shuttle flying to Dxun and then the game crahes saying it's encounterd and error with the SWKOTOR2.exe file. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, started from a previous save, but nothing works. I've also tried with the patch and without. Does anyone have a fix and if you don't does anyone know how to use the warp cheat and what module dxun is on? Also will that allow my game to progress? Any help you can give will be appreciated....Thanks
  23. I have a quick question I hope someone can help me with....I intalled 4.11 and the game looks great...however I've had several crashes with the ATIOGLXX.dll error. I searched my computer and found four ATIOGLXX.dll files in my computer. Is it OK if I delete the old ones and keep the one associated with the 4.11 driver. I have a feeling this is what is causing the problem. The computer looks for the Open gl driver and and uses the wrong one.
  24. What I don't get is the game played great last night (with the exception of crashing beween loasdnig screens) but now I install new drivers and I fail to meet the minimum requirements for video? When I try to play the game all sorts of things are happening...it plays in black and white, it's blocky and doesn't have near the texture quality. I have ATI 9200 se and it shoudl at least look like it did last night. And let me tell you what a joke Lucas Artsa "Techincal" suppport is....
  25. I have the same issue. I recently bought KOTOR 2 and loaded it to my PC the hardware scan gave me a green light on all requirements. While on Peragus it started to crash in between loading sreens. I would receive the "Windows has encountered and error and must shut down" message. I decided to uninstall KOTOR2 and update my drivers. I know have the ATI Catalyst 5.12 video driver loaded and it tells me I don't meet the minimum video requirement. Has anyone encountered this?
