  1. I would add that she is a reluctant role model as evidnced by this Video
  2. Yep. I've read a couple article on this already, and maybe I'm just not getting what this game is about, but I still have no clue what the context is. Also, these generalizations about the "Muslim community" make my head hurt. Here is a breif article regaqrding the context...."As SCEE vaguely put it, "one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game" is the cause of LittleBigPlanet's -- now worldwide -- delay. So which track is it? Well, the song is "Tapha Niang" from the 2006 album Boulevard de l'Independance by Grammy award-winning Malian kora player Toumani Diabat
  3. Ironically enough the soundtrack was written by a devout Muslim.
  4. LittleBig Planet Delay Story As pointed out in the article, Sony may still be a bit trigger shy from their recent run-in with the Church of England over Resitence. However, this seems to me to be a case of Sony being afraid of the reaction of the Muslim community. Whereas the C of E wrote a strongly worded letter to Sony and threatened to sue for having a battle take place in one of their houses of worship they're probably fearlful that their offices in Malaysia will be firebombed for a couple references to the Quran. Although I have no interest in playing this game I personally think Sony should let this game ship as is. I'm sick of the world living in fear of how Muslims will react to insignificant slights (if you can even call a reference to passages in the Quaran a slight). Actions susch as these only embolden them and legitmize their ridiculous behavior.

    skiing

I grew up in the New York not far from the Vermont border and have been skiing since I was seven. Although I love the mountains here (Stowe, Sugerbush, Smugglers Noch, Whiteface...) it's nothing to skiing out West. My best friend moved to Boulder our senior year in High School. Needless to say, for the next four years I proceeded to spend several weeks every winter visitng. Crested Butte, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge..they're all unbelievable. My one dissapointment so far is that I haven't made it out to Jackson Hole which everyone out there told me is the Mecca for skiers. On a side note I have to disagree with the statement that skiing is harder to learn and easier to master than snowboarding. Having done both I would say that skiing is far easier to learn and but much more difficult to master. Whereas with snowboarding it took me several days to get the basics but by the end of the season I felt qutie comfortable.
  6. We can't claim all the good guitar players. In fact, DuFour is Canadian.
  7. Yousha.... Sounds reallly good. Two guys I've listening to alot lately are Andy Mckee - He's gotten a lot of publicity through You Tube Antoine Dufour - But then agian no one will ever touch this guy in my eyes.....what a loss to music.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAxLgGVRV64
  8. Yushaa...It seems to me from reading several threads you've started, or participated in, in which you bring up the use of the A-Bomb is that you fail to recognize that the US was at war with the Japanese. A war that the Japanese brought to our doorstep. Should I bring out pictures of the thousands of dead sailors and soldiers at Pearl Harbor? Don't get me wrong, the events of August 1945 are in no way, shape, or form a high point in American history. Unforunately, the decision to use the bomb was one that was hoisted upon the US by the Japanese. Attempts were made to end the war without the kind of wholesale loss of life that was witnessed those two days. As was mentioned before, anyone who thinks that the Japanese were not prepared to fight to the bitter end need only look at the fact that it took TWO bombs and several days for them to finally surrender. Not to take this way off topic ......but based on your argument in other threads can't we look at the dropping of the bombs as the US and it's people lashing out and venting their hatred of the Japanese goverment's Foreign policy at the time. Let's look at their transgressions prior to August 45.....They invaded China and between 1937-45 killed over 10 million Chinese civilians....wtihout being provoked they attaceked the US at Pearl harbor killing 1500 sailors and soldiers. In the following years of the war, 106,000 sailors and soliders would be wounded, killed , or missing at the hands of the Japanese
  9. I heard in one report that they believe this may be the work of an organized pedophile ring. The reprot stated that earlier in the week a couple was seen taking pictures of children on the beach and ran awy when approached by security. However, you do bring up a lot of good points. Despite the proximity of the restaturaunt to the hotel room, I have hard time believing that parents would leave their three children alone. I can only imagine how distraught and guiltridden they must be.

  11. I just started seriously watching this show about 5 or 6 weeks ago and it's painfully obvious to me that they're all dead and the Islands are different levels of the after life ie. pergatory, hell, etc... I'm assuming this has been discussed at length but I just thought I throw that out there.
  12. The idea that the US, or any country, should surrender any parts of it's sovereignty to an interantional body is preposterous. In doing so we would open ourselves to a littany of problems. Attempts are already being made to impose international taxes on the US tax payers to pay for the problems of the world. I think GD summed it up best by saying that we need to re-visit the Monroe Doctirne and concentrate on issues here. Because isolationism has always worked SO well in the past? By this token would you say the Nuremberg trials were preposterous? Although it's impossible for the US to adpot an isolanist stance in the world, I do believe that that are pressing issues that must be addressed here at home. In addition, the scope and authority of the Nuremberg courts were agreed to by the three major powers and was created to address specific issues. However, establishing an international court whose boundries would continue to expand as more precedent is created is scary.

  14. I went to college with this guy..... http://www.myspace.com/the_lizardman He hadn't tattoed his face or had the brow implant yet but his tongue was forked and his teeth were filed. My roommate played rugby with him and said he used to scare the **** of their opponents in scrums by sticking his tongue out at them.
  15. Recently, I've been reading "How we are Hungry" whcih is a collection of shortstories by Dave Eggers. I just finished a book that I've been meaning to read for years "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking. I can't tell you how well this book was written. Hawking breaks down infiniately difficult ideas in ways taht allow the laymen to undertand the priciples benhind them. In addition I'm reading David Sedaris' "Holidays on Ice" which is funny as hell. Actually, I recommend anything by Sedaris.
