  1. The easiest way to understand a PnP rpg is to pick up a core book for a game that looks or sounds cool to you and read through it. That alone would answer far more questions than we could. PnP RPG's are typically based as much or more on personal interaction and "Role-Playing" your character than on leveling up. Don't get me wrong, in most PnP games leveling up your character is still a factor, it's just not as big a deal as in CRPG's. If you want to ease into something, I'd recommend something from Palladium Books. Such as the Palladium Fantasy RPG. Its a big system that's got a lot of (mostly optional) rules. It's fairly easy to understand, only requires the core book, and doesn't cost much (about $20 I think). I'd recommend D20 Star Wars as a second option as I beleive it also only requires the main book to play. It costs a little more though.
  2. Anyone know how many different endings there are? Just wondering about the number.
  3. SPOILERish.............not really, but kinda.......... I'll admit I died only occasionally (twice I think). But when you first get Mira, I didn't want to level her past 10 until I could convert her, I couldn't face even two of those enemies at once without going through my inventory like mad or running around in circles alot. lol
  4. Now THAT would be something I'd like to see in KOTOR 3. That would be cool. Especially if crits from boss level characters could remove a limb or two...
  5. ???? Well, I'd have loved it if my character was completly customizable, If I could have been piloting the Ebon Hawk all over the place like a fighter video game, If I could have chosen Eye and Hair color.... If every decision I made changed every dialogue tree in the game.... If I could have flipped the light switches on and off on everything.... If I could have completly blown off the story and made up one of my own... Are these all cool Ideas? I think so. Are they in the game? No. So get a grip... "In K2, I never feared death. Why not? Because I'm running around with half of my attributes in the mid 20s and the other half in the low 30s, absolutely crushing all in my path, with the setting on 'Difficult', with no party members in my group." Really? I thought the difficulty wasn't too bad. I had to watch what I did until I hit level 25-30. And at that point, I think I should have been devistating everyone (and I still had to be careful from time to time).
  6. I absolutly love this game. I've made 4 characters, had 2 seperate xboxes die on me in the last two weeks (I have a new one now -- unrelated to this game) I've lost 20+ hours of gameplay due to those failures, and I'm still loving this game. I've encountered many of the bugs people have mantioned, skipping, slow framerates, etc. But as a programmer myself, I feel the need to make a few points. Obsidian didn't create this game. They took a pre existing game engine and pushed it to its limits. Not to trivialize the job Obsidian has done, because they did a great job, but they didn't develope the core of this game. They recycled it. Obisidian Pushed the power of that engine alot to get KOTOR2. I heard one of the devs say that they nearly maxed out the available memory for the characters so that we could have robes and such. I own KOTOR 1 for Xbox. Has anyone actually looked at that game? It had framerate issues, it had the loading lockups. But it was still an awesome game. In my openion, the major bugs everyone keeps yelling about are the result of a heavily coded (I don't want to say badly coded, because it wasn't) game engine being pushed to its limits. KOTOR1 had most if not all the same bugs as KOTOR2, They simply weren't as noticible. I think the bugs are fundamental flaws in the game engine that have become more noticible due to the increase in what that engine has to process. This isn't anyone's fault, Bioware likely wasn't considering the game engine's reuseability this close to the launch of Xbox 2. Has anyone noticed the discalmer on the loading screens? "Save Frequently and in Different Slots". None of the bugs will devour your game if you follow that disclaimer above. This disclaimer tells me all I need to know. That the devs knew about many of the problems and were unable to fix them. Re-writing the game enging is likely the only way to eliminate many of those bugs as finding and fixing them in the old code would probably take even longer and been more difficult. How long did Obsidian have to get this game up and running. A year? I don't know for sure what their timetable was, but I can tell you that thats not as much time as it sounds. I love this game and think Obsidian and Bioware both did great jobs! I just felt that they needed a cheering section around here somewhere....
  7. That's cool. I wonder if you can get that high in game. I'm only about level 25 and just completed the 4th planet... How do you make those saves work? Do you have to have a modded Xbox?
  8. I've come to beleive in karma due to my unusual luck. an example: I once narrowly missed out on a car wreck only to damage my own vehicle. When I got home that day, I found a check in the mail I had been waiting months for. lol, well... One of the issues I had was that when I asked about prices a month or two ago, trading in an old Xbox for a refurbished one was only supposed to be $80. That's why I originally went with that option... Apprently, the prices go up the closer to Christmas we get... This type of thing happens to me so often, I can't help but laugh about it. The best was the day I lost $500, (I think it was stolen - no proof though), My car broke down, I broke my favorite chair when I sat in it, then I burnt up the vacume. --- All within about 3 hours... (w00t) Ever see the movie 'Pure Luck.' I think it was based on me. lol
  9. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! fgdhsjagvb k fdsa reuf;a3 *E#@Y ER!!!! To understand my frustration, let me start at the beginning... Tuesday. KOTOR2 comes out. I go to EB and pick up my pre ordered copy. I go home eagerly awaiting the new story... I pop it in my Xbox and proceed to spend the next 6 hours getting through the first 1/2 hour of the game. My CD-Rom had been dying off for awhile in the Xbox, and it decided that no matter what I did, it was not going to play KOTOR2 correctyl for me. So I decided to take the last of my petty cash and go trade in mine for a refurbished Xbox. I get to EB, and I find out that the prices have increased.... So I shell out $111 for a refurb job with warranty after trading in 8 games and my broken Xbox... Then I get home and pop KOTOR2 into the new(refurbished) Xbox... I start playing. I'm lovin this game... having a blast for two days... 20+ hours into it... and what happens? it eats the game... IT EATS THE FREAKIN GAME!!!!!!! At this point I'm considering hairy carey...... I take the Xbox (with KOTOR2 still inside ) back to EB... Luckily, I had them both under warrenty... Unluckily, they didn't have any more refurbished Xbox's... So I had to shell out another $15 after using the two games that come with the new Xbox as trade in's and including the extra $5 for updating the warranty for a new system... So... Now, $126 later... 20+ hours of gameplay lost.... I'm hoping I can finally get through this flippin game...... If you think you're having a bad week, stick with me... This type of think isn't real uncommon for me.... I knew it was too good to be true when the PA treasury had my name listed as one of the people that has money comming to them... Karma is a fickle creature...
  10. I read IGN's review and have been sporadically keeping up with the dev's statements on these boards and such, and while I very likely could be wrong, I'm almost positive I read one of the dev's saying the level cap was 40. As I said, I may be wrong, or this may have changed, but I'm positive I read that in one of the conversations with one of the dev's. If anyone's gotten past level 40, please let me know.
  11. I've been browsing the forum, and it seems as if the Thompson HD is a big factor in most people's problems. More research seems to be needed on this issue by the devs or someone.... I recently traded my 2-yr old xbox in on a referbished one, and the game runs fine. My problem was a bad CD Drive -- which is unrelated to these bugs.
  12. Guys, guys, guys, Don't forget about the context of what your seeing. This is the End All Be All of the Jedi Knights. Ths Sith are taking over. I don't care how Wise you are, how Manipulative you are, This is the time when the uber-powerful fellas come out of their philosophical shells to lay some good ol fashioned smackdown onto each other. The Jedi will be fighting for their existience. The time for wisdom and peacful solutions has passed...
  13. The biggist issue with Fable not living up to its hype, was that the game everyone kept hearing about and anticipating was not quite the same game that shipped. Fable is a good game, but all the hype over the last couple of years by its developers had everyone expecting a game that would redefine the genere. And while Fable is a good game, it's not really redefining much, if anything. What really killed Fable is all the hype surrounding it and all the additional content that apparently was unable to be finished in the necessary time (i.e. 4 years). I bought Fable and I've already got KOTOR2 on preorder. KOTOR2 and Fable are going to be completly different animals. IMO KOTOR2 would be hard for Obsidian to screw up (unless they have a Really bad story lol) due to them not really changing much. Most of what Obsidian is doing to the KOTOR engine is tweeks. To my knoweledge, there not rewriting the stuff that worked the first time around, just trying to make it better. And I for one haven't heard anyone from Obsidian saying that KOTOR2 will be the Greatest RPG of all time.... To take a comparasion from the Cosby show I heard once: We got a big honkin sandwich with all the trimmings, it looked great, looked as if we never taste anything better. Then it was served to us on a flipped over garbage can lid. --This was Fable There is almost no way Obsidian could let its fans down as bad as we were with Fable. There are many people who feel ripped off and suckered, and in all reality we were. Fable is a good game, but if it wasn't for all the (false) hype, the game would never have made 18 million in its first week. Even after the Fable fiasco, I still beleive that KOTOR2 is a good competitor to Halo2 for Game of the year. (lol, Halo2 will likely knock it out of the water, but I like KOTOR style game more than those like Halo) lol, Wow, this really turned out to be a much larger post than I'd intended, I guess I needed to rant a bit about Fable. Haven't done that before now. Anyways, that's my $0.02.
  14. What's the criteria needed for a game to go gold? And I assume that it needs to be a completed game before it goes gold if it can be shipped that quickly?
  15. Actually, you can get a second ( and third I think) lightsaber from the Mandaloreans on Dantoeen (-sp). And I'd also like to find out how you get your lightsaber, but alas, Fear I, that wait for the game's release, we must....
  16. Have I missed something? I asked the guy at the local EB the other day and he checked to computer and he said Kotor 2 was set for December 10th. Is he wrong? Or what?
  17. lol, I'm gonna have to check this out. :D A dead Killer Whale? lol
  18. Dude, that looks awesome! *Two Sabers Up*
  19. I thought the coolest conversation I had in KoToR was in the cantena on Tatooine. Walk up to Zerka Rep and his buddy... Ask a question... He gets smart... I force choke him.... He and his buddy never speak to me again.... lol
  20. Well, it appears all three of us voters are currently in agreement..... lol
  21. That did tend to happen alot diddn't it..........
