It's so obviously "OP" that there must be significant game mechanisms to counteract it---aside from just requiring a lot of wounds. The devs can overlook things but they're not completely incompetent. Lol, you really belive that? I guess you don't remember pillars of eternity barbarian retaliation build at all :D. That was as broken as that, you could one-shot bosses if there were enemies around it. Also Adra Dragon standard tactic with Shock Touch? Devs always miss a lot of most broken builds/combos in game simply because they have no time to test every possible combo/mechanic. Especiall Obsidian which is quite small team compare to huge developers, who also oversight a lot of stuff like that. I could tell you a lot of examples from various RPGs that have broken stuff like that till today and every new RPG have things like that. Belive me there is not mechanic counter to this. It's just another super broken combo found in game. Will be patched sooner or later. Better have fun with it now

So can anyone explain the OP build and how he achieves that? Inner death has +500% damage (not OP at all) on crit and fairly high base dmg. Empower increases the base damage further. With the passive for +100 acc and pen it always crits and always achieves overpen for 1.3 multiplier. Finally, turning wheel adds 5% multiplicative fire lash per wound and dance generates wounds for free. And yeah, it's probably a hellwalker for +1 might per wound on top. The obvious nerfs are reducing the +500% crit damage to something reasonable and nerfing the crap out of +100 acc/pen on empowered abilities cause that's just silly. Ok... I try to follow, so he empowered Inner Death or his base attacks? What gives that passive +100 acc and pen? Is it also achievable with Shattered Pillar?

Why auto-resurrect if you can one shot anything? This is the damage of one monk, if u rolled 5, u can do 10000 damage, and what boss has such amount of hp?I mean that auto-resurrect abilities are so common even before endgame that the bosses are probably going to auto-resurrect like crazy. With lots of hp on resurrection. Probably resurrect even stronger.Man you try really hard Well Druid/Priest/Chanter all have resurrects that add inspirations, Paladin/Fighter/Druid have auto-resurrect, many late-game spells are primarily useful for Destroy, and plenty of games have endgame bosses that resurrect repeatedly. So it does seem overwhelmingly likely. Not a stretch at all. Can you console-summon some likely endgame bosses to test? findgamedata Eothas? Nah I have no urge to discuss with you at all. This is not game breaking. Edit: one last point, if u assume a boss has unlimited resurrect, then you cannot beat the boss without destroy, which is a bad design because u cannot guarantee your team has destroy. If u argue the resurrect is limited, then it doesn’t counter the point that this ability is game breaking. So there must be items, probably including scrolls, that Destroy. Not terrible game design. (Or endgame boss resurrect could be limited to 10+ times.) Some of the Destroy abilities only work on Near Death enemies, or when you kill them with a spell, so doing so much damage you kill outright might actually be detrimental to landing destroy. Instead, the boss keeps popping back stronger. Rope-a-dope beats death touch. Whole game starts with Eothas self-resurrecting.... What? No way game would be desiged like that. Maybe some boss have some self ress mechanic once in game, but mechanic like that would be stupidest thing I have ever seen in RPG.

Phantom Foes is foe-only, so you'd need to be Confused to use it on allies. (For example, Berserker-Cipher... unfortunately Serafen is limited to vanilla Barbarian.) However, the Blunderbuss "Powder Burns" modal applies "Flanked" to the user. On Berserker-Storm form: it's not good because the attacks are ranged and the bounces hit your own allies. Um what? You want your enemies to be flanked unless descrption of Streetfighter is wrong. Read "-50% Recovery time +50% Damage against Flanked, Mind Afflicted or Body Afflicted targets". Against Flanked targets. So you get that 50% dmg bonus AGAINST flanked targets. Hence- Phantom Foes. Why would I want to flank my own allies?
-
Streethfighter/Begulier or Soul Blade seems nice for solo damage spike. Spamming Phatom Foes (to get enemies "Flanked") and Mind Afflicted powers will allow you to get full advatage of crazy damage bonuses that Streetfighter has: "Bonus: -50% Recovery time +50% Damage against Flanked, Mind Afflicted or Body Afflicted targets, when the street fighter is Flanked or Bloodied. +100% Weapon Crit damage when the Streetfighter is both Flanked and Bloodied" So you can get crazy -50% Recovery, 50% Damage and 100% Weapon Crit damage. StreetFighter/Berserker also seems great on paper. Huge damage bonuses when outnumbered (so pretty much always on solo) + Carnage and it can be good too.

Didn't play yet but on paper I think Skald would work wonders with Berserker or Devoted. It would also fit nicely form role-playing perspective if you care about that . It's just difficult to choose a weapon without ever playing the game. What weapon would you choose? 2H? Also, doesn't berserker hurt your team? How do you avoid that? I really appreciate your input! Also, what do you think of Shifter/ Berserker? From what I heard from others dual wielding gives the most DPS and > 2h weapons. As for Shifter - dunno. But wouldn't Fury/Berserker work maybe in his Storm form? Or with Devoted and 2h picked as his pref weapon since Storm Form have 2h attacks?
-
That's the plan. Hence why I am looking for advice. What is mob stance? Bleakwalker/Assassin sounds fun- sort of a Black Guard from DnD. But wouldn't it lack penetration and self-sustain? Also AOE-multi enemy damage. Devoted/Soul Blade looks great with that stance though. I wonder how well Devoted/Streetfighter would work in solo

Elaborate please? Because he can shatter pillars Just kidding, Monk is pretty strong in the beta because they have best autoattacks, better when u pick Nature Godlike. Also once u upgrade Torment Reach it does aoe Stun, as a Shattered Pillar u generate wound by damaging enemy, so u can spam aoe Stun which is pretty cheesy. His ultimate is pretty strong too, Whipser of the Wind = 6 full attack against 6 enemy and as a Shattered Pillar u can also spam these. Monk also has nice modal and passive, but sine u usually spam all your wounds, it won't do much. A Nalpazca is pretty strong too because with high alchemy drug last very long. U can generate wound per 3 sec with drugs on. Pretty sweet when combine with 10 Int, 50% fire damage bonus from modal, u can also stack another 30% lightning lash from Lightning strike. Or pick Swift Flurry + Passive to stack 25+33% chance to do extra hit when crit. Overall Monk has good abilities from early game to late game. Thanks. Was thinking about combining Shattered Pillar with (or Nalpazca it seems) with Berserker, Streetfighter (for solo play for all those nice bonuses from being flanked etc), Cipher or Skald. What do you think? All sounds solid to me, but I would single class it to get these sweet high level ability earlier. Honestly it's hard for me to go single class with that great new multi system in PoE2 :D. But I know some single will always be power houses, same like Sorcerer was always strongest in the end in BG2 though some multis were super strong too.
-
Shattered Pillar is bad for solo. A solo monk will walways get hit enough to build wounds, but shattered has a max wound threshold of 5 instead of 9(10?). I'm personally torn between Soul Blade and Ascendant for cipher/monk, seems like Soul Blade is much stronger early game and the late game shouldn't be a problem either way, but still Ascendant sounds so nteresting in theory. So I should change Pillar to Hellwalker or Nalp then? No problem. I am not that fixed around Pillar. I like monks in general. Though Berserker multis in PoE2 also seems nice. I don't like casters in PoE so what multi would recommend for solo powerbuild?

Looking for strong solo powerbuilds. I don't like micro party and prefer to play solo first time (those are not IRON solo builds!). Theorycrafting I was thinking about those (many include Streetfighter as I think playing solo you will benefit most from his bonuses + escape): Streetfighter/Beguiler - using Phatom Foes and being flanked all the time (since you solo) will give you massive bonuses to damage and focus against targets. Berserker or Devoted/Skald - obviously for offensive pharases and crits. Berserker/Soul Blade - for damage. Streetfighter/Berserker - can work too, but berserker self damage might be too problematic. Streetfighter/Skald - hm, could be nice with paralyze phrase. Streethfighter/Shattered Pillar or Devoted - for classic melee high damage. Shattered Pillar/Soul Blade - seems there is synergy here for good damage. Ascendant/Berserker or Devoted or Shattered Pillar - I see great synergy here when you reach ascendant, especially with Berserker Carnage/Monk Reach or Devoted crit bonuses. More clicking and micro but I don't mind. I didn't include Shattered/Berserker combo as their actives (attack speed) sadly don't stack. Maybe mods will make it work. What do you think about those?

Just a tip from people who like to enjoy a lot of broken stuff in single player RPGs that usually come with vanilla release. Since for whatever reason Obsidian likes to patch/nerf/fix broken builds/combos in single player game I recommend disabling updates so you can enjoy them till DLCs drop. That's what I did in PoE 1 . Just a tip. Have a nice play.
-
That is why I disable updates on RPG games when they come out So nobody will nerf my fav builds. As a old-date gamer I am still amazed that anyone would like to nerf something in single player RPG game, but I just play on 1.0 builds mostly :D. Unless there are some game-breaking bugs and I can't finish game.

Hah nice! See OP- Paladin not only one. Wizard not only tanked as good, but killed Adra faster. I bet someone will do it with Fighter. Good work both of you! Shame that heavy scroll usage is required.

That is awesome! My only concern with rogue is survivability. In the start of the game at level 2, I try to kill three xaurips with the rogue in valewood, but the rogue ends up missing too much even with the weapon focus adventurer using a pollaxe and gets owned by the Xaurips. If a rogue has that much trouble vs three xaurips at level 2, how is he going to handle a critical moment at higher level if he gets a few enemies targetting him? for POTD, TOI, is a rogue worth it? As a ranger you get the bear companion which is an extra meat shield to form a defensive wall. I am half way with my Sniper Rogue so I can tell you that yes he is worth: He can crit on 90-120 on DR 22+ targets with Deathblows, even higher if you debuff target. Accuracy is not an issue with Marksman and Weapon Focus. Besides rogue and ranger have same accuracy, Ranger can boost it with Vicous Aim +10 (at price of attack speed) or with pet, but here is the thing: Why the hell I would need pet or watch it die super fast against Shades/Vithraks/Spiders/Ogres and many other things? When I start fight I send Egar to front with Durance and maybe other tank or not, depending on areas I am going too (open- two tanks, closed/bottlenecks- one tank). And Having me, Wizard, Cipher behind. You just throw AOE conditions on enemies and start sniping them and they die super fast. Throw some Cipher Blunderbus shot in between and Wizard FireBall and you have fun . Make sure you make your Cipher for Blunderbuss build so he can generate focus enough to sustain AOE conditions like Mind Binding, Flank, Blind and other in fight. And bear is just meat shield. Edar is Iron Shield and custom made tank is TITANIUM Shield. Pet dies super fast (evn bear- he has only 14 DR, up to 16 with talent?) and need to be baby sit by Durance all the time. Edar or Paladin girl can just sit there and take everything, so why need a pet? Durance can spend this time throwing buffs at party. Better even, if I had a pet, it wouldn't even be there in front, since you want Edar on front to block/tank. Now all you need to do is Switch between your 2 or 3 or 4 Arquebuses as rogue (depends or Race and build), kill biggest threat target super fast and after that just reload and watching BIG numbers poping out On level 5 rogue in Roderin on PotD I scored 110 critical hit on Archer or Roderic Guard (with lash enchant fire this time, since I enchanted it finally ). And it was from Sneak Attack only! Later in game when you have Deathblows and Cipher you have this awesome Cipher spell- Fractured Volition http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Fractured_Volition - which leaves target Hobbled and Weakened. So on boss with Deathblows it is boss. On goup of enemies: Chill Fog from Wizard and http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Phantom_Foes or Mind Binding gives you constant AOE Deathblows. Priest can boost your Accuracy with buffs no problem if you feel you miss it (I didn't). And you have 20% Hit Convert to Critc. Throw to it this priest bless that gives you another 15% Hits convert to Crit- nice stuff around :D. And yes at the beginning it is not as easy as Ranger since you don't have pet. But as soon (and this is super soon) as I get Egar, Aloth and plate armor for Egar- why would I need pet? :D Try Sniper Rogue- really, really powerfull and lot of fun watching stuff being OHK or 2OHK in PotD I hit 110 crit with Rogue on leve 5 with Fine Arquebus with Fire Lash on Roderic Archer or Roderic Guard (can't remember). No Penetrating Shot even, since I didn't unlock it yet. 110!! I tought my previous 81 crit (no lash enchant) was nice, but this 110 was my record in Roderic on level 5! It all depend on rolls but Sneak Attack helps a ton and later Deathblows pop more insane numbers :D. And no, I don't have backstab talent- I keep my sniper far away so it would be useless for him .

Disagree, my monk super tank build could get higher Deflection with gear but I want to get hit in solo to get Wounds for TR. However I can assure you- you can put him in front and he will dish out more DPS than your DPS fighter with Torments Reach. Never underestimate Torments Reach. And he will still tank as good as tank paladin. Not as good as Fighter but he will at least dish super AOE (cone) DPS every second unarmed! Don't understand what your monk has to do with the discussion and where I'm talking about my fighter? And a monk tanking like a paladin? It's a joke, yes? No. That was to you saying "how you build your tank they will always do very low damage compared to casters". All I wanted to say that you can build monk for a tank and he will do great DPS. Thats all. And yes, my monk can tank as good as your paladin, becasue he will actually kill stuff 4x faster while doing so and being very capable against any CC in game. Tested in solo 2x runs, so in party that would be tank in the park.
