  1. I did not take any offense at all. So, your first claim about me creating the topic was wrong, and now your second claim is nothing but your interpretation, which is also wrong. This is not going well for you. Also: beside the point, so let's stop right here. Thanks.
  2. I can see why people might want to use that, but it's not a mod I'd go for. I'm only genuinely interested in the content Obsidian has created -- therefore, only XP gain restrictions for me. But thanks, anyway.
  3. Would you like me to link the topic you created about "ship combat being broken" bc you cant GTA boats or any other number of complaints that can easily be dismissed as unreasonable or dramatic? I did not create the topic. I wrote nothing dramatic. You may regard the topic as valid or not, either way is fine with me. Please get your facts straight, and you might also pay attention to the tone people write in.
  4. Monk is a strange class in Pillars: a better fighter than a fighter, an absolute beast of a damage-dealer. I would have to agree that a Pillars monk does not need either intellect or resolve. They need fighter attributes: mig, dex and con. It is a bit weird, yes.
  5. Boeroer's point was that if someone's emotional state is so affected by an issue in a computer game, they probably have difficulties with their life and should pay attention to it. It's a perfectly valid statement.
  6. So, I found the following rather old discussion (link below), and I wonder: does this stuff still work, and if my next game happens to be patched at some point, will it override any changes I may have made? Does anyone know? https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/98907-modtweak-xp-gain-modifier/
  7. It's a fair point, no question, but given that you're going to get far more experience points than you can ever possibly use (i.e. you're going to reach level cap quite early), I think there's also a positive side to this.
  8. That's the first time I hear anyone pointing out the accent. I don't mind it at all, but your comment made me curious. Where would you place the accent, if anywhere, geographically speaking? North America, obviously, but anywhere more specific than that?
  9. Fair enough, I stand corrected on the inexperience question. Then it's just lack of skill in that area. No complaints on the job she does with Ydwin.
  10. Ha! I've wondered about this. If you do that, there will be no game at all. Is that it?
  11. So, I'm knocking on level 20 now. I've done a bit of SSS. I haven't even visited the areas for BoW and FS. I also haven't been to Crookspur or Splintered Reef. Plenty of bounties still left. Quite a few quests not finished. No faction chosen. I'm reaching the level cap way too early, in my view, and knowing myself, I'm going to lose interest as a result. I think the best thing to do at this point is to start again with XP gain modded. So, for those who have done it, what kind of multipliers have you used, and what kind of results have you got? I would be extremely grateful for all input on this question.
  12. Indeed, if that makes the developer worth skipping, it might be difficult to find any enjoyable games anywhere, in any genre. Maybe chess?
  13. This argument is too easy. It is genuinely possible for a female actor to be just awful, and if that is the case, we shouldn't shirk around the issue. Otherwise we would have to conclude that the fact of being a female automatically makes you good, and that doesn't make any sense. However, it is also true that some saddos will have problems with females as such. But it is not a good idea to throw this around too much in a discussion. Personally, I find the narrator's performance quite average: good natural voice, decent diction, definite problems in most attempts at dramatic articulation, rather clear lack of experience in this kind of thing. Given the option, I would mute her, but having her around is not a game-breaker by any means.
  14. The OP definitely has a point, but he just might be going a bit overboard with it.
  15. Comments like this always make me think how Indiana Jones is a complete non-entity in Raiders of the Lost Ark: the story would have unfolded just the same without him. The nazis would have found the Ark and died just the same. Indy affects nothing. That's just lovely, priceless.
  16. what did you do to maerwald? i think the heads always mention something about "maybe your mercy" blah blah even if what you chose to do is not merciful. I'm scratching my memory - my most recent run was from a game where I absorbed maerwald for knowledge, and that's suppossed to be the meanest outcome, and i had to fight 3 maerwalds and a bunch of mirrors of my party. If I try to really hard remember, I think I had another run where I released his soul, which is supposed to be the nicest option, and I only fought 3 maerwalds, or maybe it was 1 maerwald and soul mirrors. (I might be misremembering though, memory is really suggestible after all.) I allowed Maerwald's soul to return to the Wheel, which seemed like the most merciful option at the time -- and, indeed, gave me a message to that effect (I recall it had something to do with gratitude from Maerwald's soul, or something to that effect). I had to fight 1 Maerwald and the soul mirrors, so your last recollection is correct. From what you describe, it seems that although you do get punished for having chosen a cruel option (i.e. you'll get three Maerwalds), you don't really get a reward for the mercy you have shown. Nothing wrong with that, but the mercy comment from the heads is misleading. And, again, nothing wrong with that: they can bull all they want, of course.
  17. What's your definition of "substantial?" in SSS one of the challenges significantly changes difficulty based on how you treated maerwald. is that what you're talking about? That's a fair question. Difficult to say exactly, but some items on your list would qualify, in my opinion. Thanks for the list, btw! As for the Maerwald incident: yep, I was told that my mercy might change things, but I'm not sure if they did. It was a damn hard fight, and Maerwald sure didn't say anything about me having been merciful towards him.
  18. What you say in the end doesn't sound true to me. I have no interest in Pallegina and didn't recruit her (unless it was for an instant -- can't be sure about this), but she did appear in my Deadfire. But the first point is interesting and, of course, well done from Obsidian.
  19. Absolutely. Do you mean that if Pallegina, Eder and Aloth are dead in your final save, they won't appear in Deadfire?
  20. As it says in the title. Can your PoE endgame save affect Deadfire in a way that actually has meaning? I'll give an example. In PoE, I treated Maerwald with kindness and mercy, to the extent that it was possible. In Deadfire, I was told at one point that it might change things a bit, but I'm not sure if it did, in the end: his attitude surely wasn't reciprocal. I had to do some serious battle. So, I was left with the impression that although I was told my previous choices would matter, they didn't. Somehow, precisely this is the impression I keep on getting. Therefore, I am curious.
  21. Hey, that's fair enough. But if you insist on these two points, then you must also subscribe to the ethos behind that. And that, simply put, is: don't complain. I also don't lower difficulty, I also don't skip fights. I also play with extra challenges enabled. No problems, which is to say, it's all eminently doable. It's OK to get frustrated (I still do in some areas (*cough* Bridge Ablaze *cough*) no matter how many times I've run PotD+upscaling+challenges), but yeah, like someone else said, this is starting to sound like "one of those posts." It's true. I don't think I've ever played any game where designers have been so extremely responsive to player concerns about difficulty tuning. There was a lot of collective grousing to increase the difficulty to where it is now (and it's to Obsidian's credit that they kept tweaking it up); the difficulty is now at a point that I feel like many players are adequately satisfied (and for the rest there's things like Deadly Deadfire). I think the difficulty works fine, for the most part. There's just one thing that I think is below optimal. In the beginning of the game (say, in the digsite), I feel I need to turn the difficulty down, and later on, I feel like turning it up. So the consistency is a little bit lacking. But this is not a major concern. However, I'd rather strongly argue that it's there.
  22. Hey, that's fair enough. But if you insist on these two points, then you must also subscribe to the ethos behind that. And that, simply put, is: don't complain.
  23. I like the two previous comments very much. This is also the approach I take: I have a character in mind, and then I role-play that character, basing my decisions upon what I think is right for that character, not upon what is mathematically most beneficial (i.e. deals the most damage). In PoE and Deadfire, for whatever reason, I am playing a female monk who avoids battle whenever possible. It's been great fun. Let's face it: you can absolutely succeed in the game with just about any combination of attributes and equipment choices -- you'd really have to go out of your way to create something that doesn't work. And when you simply concentrate on role-playing your character, there's never going to be a moment of frustration when you discover a new item and think, "Oh damn, I should have chosen abilities and proficiencies X, Y and Z, because that would have made me deal so much more damage with this new toy." And hey, no criticism intended in any of the above. The math-based approach absolutely works, too.
  24. How can I import this bug to Kingmaker? Moving like a legless offspring of geriatric glacier and arthritic sloth is very seriously getting on my nerves, and I'm still in Act 2. P.S.: please don't fix it please don't fix it please don't fix it Fair question. My experience with the game is quite limited, but I agree they have made some astonishing design choices, walking speed being one of them. Swarm enemies (some particular early-game spider swarms come to mind) being another. And of course, the dialogue trees are nothing but cliche, there isn't even any attempt at creativity. Which is fair enough: if you just want to put together a cavalcade of tropes, that's definitely one possible approach, it's basically what much of all genre work is built upon. I do wish the English was better, though: it's so obvious that (at least some) writers are either non-natives or very careless indeed. And from what I've played so far, the story appears more railroaded than an actual railroad. But maybe it opens up later on, I don't know.
