I tried this a little while ago and still had to use the Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 fix to stop the Dantooine problem...it didn't help a bit, nevermind what it did to other games.

I don't think the imagery is really a separate selling point. It's just another one of the exaggerations video games have for everything - more dangerous, more violent, more dramatic, and hyper-sexualized. For some reason the censors only get worked up when you get to the end of that list, though.

Does Revan's fate make any sense?
Cathryn replied to Nur Ab Sal's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The "off fighting the true Sith" (instead of a final confrontation with the Exile) loophole sure feels more like a LA-driven idea than Obsidian's. I don't see why they felt that they couldn't resolve Revan one way or another - maybe it put too many restrictions on the K3 setting? That's the precedent set when they let you pick from the K1 LS/DS endings at the beginning of K2. But they had to do something with him, and the other two options end up with him as a major character - or dead. I personally wouldn't have wanted to hear about that after the fact. It seems like they picked the fastest/easiest way out - which would be consistent with the rush of the story ending. Still, I personally adore Revan's character and harassed Kriea endlessly until I got enough influence from her to hear more. For me, not mentioning him at all would have been worse than the botched job of the future storyline. Maybe that is the mindset they were playing to, even if what I see posted on the boards generally says that's just me. -
I can't stand G4 so I don't know anything specifically about that show, but I think that Wal-Mart won't carry video games with strong sexual content and that has a lot to do with how far games take sexual themes. I read that companies are trying now to corner the 'elusive' female gamer market, and given what the men making video games seem think women want to see, this may be bad (The Sims...ugh). The only thing I personally find offensive is the idea that I'm supposed to be offended by a certain type of content. Slap a warning sticker on it and let me choose whether or not I want to see it, thanks. That article about avatars was amusing. I laugh when people talk about how over-sexualized female avatars in every video game are...the male ones are just as overdone!

I like that idea. Death/knockout should be more than a short nap. Someone is probably going to suggest not being able to save at any given point being necessary then, though This has probably been mentioned (no way I'm going to make it 27 pages back) but I want to see teamwork with other 2 party members in combat more critical on a higher difficulty setting. I understand some people just want to get to the story, but if you set the game on difficult, I want to have to figure out a strategy More enemies having immunity to different powers/feats, more having to use stun/stasis instead of AE attacks, enemies who have to be slowed and have their friendly powers removed before you have any chance of hitting them - that was in the current engine to a limited extent so I can't imagine it would be so hard to do. It just doesn't force you to use it, I wish it did.

When I dig up one of the KOTOR CDs from the pile on my desk, I'm usually thinking that whatever brand-new game I just bought and burned through in 5 hours was a huge rip-off. Except with a lot more cursing, which I'm too polite to post Between modding the game and having a horrible memory, I usually find something I think is new, or at least a little different. The save game editor is fun, too.

60 Hours of Hopeless Romancing
Cathryn replied to subnubilus's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yikes, that sounds frustrating. There's a lot of story there and it's easy to miss a piece even when you're looking for it. It's bad for someone who has (unlike me) something better to do than replay and try random stuff out - unless you're sitting there with a step-by-step influence guide, and that's not much fun. Turning Mira into a Jedi is not quite as random as what you're describing, but still hard for some people to figure out. I don't think it's intended to be difficult because it's so damn easy with others. Either way, it's critical to the storyline and influence is tricky enough as is. I thought the dialogue in K2 was more interesting (though a lot of times in the 'what the hell, how is that supposed to happen' way) but K1 was so much funnier and there's a lot of merit to that -
There's a game issue with getting force sight for your own character, if that's what you meant. http://www.team-gizka.org/downloads.html fixes it (it's about halfway down the page there).

Yep. It was so gratuitous, I almost wish they just hadn't bothered.

I saw the 'visions' as the ramblings of the Exile's guilty conscience, nothing more. Not a literal recollection of the past, but points at which the Exile made decisions she later felt guilty about and wondered if she could have possibly changed. Same for when she finds Kriea and 'sees' the present/future - just a waking nightmare, more of the Exile questioning herself (with Kriea around, who wouldn't).

Revan & the Exile's gender/alignment
Cathryn replied to GhostofAnakin's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
What people think never bothers me per se, but I only see Revan as male. Canon aside I prefer the DS ending at the K1 point in time. I think of Revan as having more of his own motivations than a set alignment after the beginning, but that wasn't the question Exile is LS female to me. Not to sound sexist, but her actions are often emotionally based. -
I could have sworn Kriea said something about it having to do with Malachor itself as well as the other reasons given in the thread...forget the specifics though. More likely I am wrong

Ahhh - meant that K1 was a little less cliche than K2 as far as the love stories go. K2's competition for your character's affections seemed silly to me. Same old 'who will win the hero's heart' thing that shows up in so many movies and games. It's cute, but takes more character depth to pull it off. As you pointed out, there wasn't really time to have that in place. Awww, sorry I agree on that, given 9 people, there's a pretty good chance you're going to end up disliking at least 1. And it's plenty fun to pick on the characters you don't like, in both 1/2. Maybe that is back on topic, too...heh.

I am not a huge fan of the romance storylines either. I guess they can be a challenge to your alignment if you're going for LS, or the LS members of your party if virtue isn't a concern (Bastila talks about how Jedi do not do such things, and the Handmaiden seems very concerned about how it could affect you/her). Still, Jolee's thoughts on love were more meaningful - and less cliche. The Handmaiden just made me want to file stalking charges - everything about her was irritating to me, so I guess it was part of her character At least you could persuade her to put her clothing back on.

Whenever I talk to someone who is playing the game for the first time, I tell them to play LS, then DS...because DS is so rewarding after playing through as an unpaid errand girl You never know, might actually be fun - put it on max difficulty though. I think someone made a balancing mod for the DS powers, I need to try that.

The quested party storylines bothered me a little in K1. It didn't make much sense for my DS character to do things which light-aligned party members found horrifying, then turn around and carry on a deeply personal conversation. The storyline redeemed itself later on (kill Mission/Zal, Carth runs away) but it felt like this happened a bit too late - especially if you travel early on to some of the places which present more opportunity to cause trouble That being said, the K1 characters as a group were a lot more fun. The chances of catching something amusing are like the influence system in K2, (right place, right time) but K1 had more interaction between the characters and the world around you. As a group, though, it seemed like the K1 characters mostly had a common chip on their shoulders, while the K2 characters had more original stories. Granted K1 is trying to establish an overall setting, tragedy inflicted from outside (Carth's son, Mission's family, Juhani's homeworld, etc) but the K2 characters seemed to have more of a hand in shaping their past, and I like that. But after an embarassing number of playthroughs on K2, some things still don't add up (even with cut content assumed). K1 may have been more homogenized, but the K1 characters' stories made a lot more sense. Hopefully there will be some balance struck there if there's a future K3. I'd like to see the party form more internal alignments themselves. Kriea did this to some degree in K2, but it was purposely forced. It would be interesting if the party members who oppose you take you on as a large part of the storyline.
