Mad Max: Fury Road: 99% Fresh with 190 Critic Reviews
Blarghagh replied to ktchong's topic in Way Off-Topic
Any of you ever try any XD theatres? I think it was developed by Cinemark originally. I had all of those problems (tired eyes, headaches, blurry vision, image darkening) until I discovered a theatre two towns over using XD format and it's removed every single one. Took my brother there who usually suffers from motion sickness from 3D movies and he had no issues either. Don't know if it'll help for you guys, but it worked for me. -
Other than the fact of this being common knowledge for a multitutde of years? Consider Jeff Gerstmann. Fired from his editorial position at Gamespot in late 2007 because he gave a low rating to Kane & Lynch: Dead Men while Eidos, publisher of said game, was heavily advertising said game on Gamespot. This was solely rumor for many years because Gerstmann was legally banned from speaking about it due to a non-disparagement agreement but that was nullified in 2012, when Gerstmann came out and confirmed that this was indeed the reason he was fired. There's many more examples, but that is the most egregious one I can think of right now. However, the fact that game review websites and even magazines when they were still relevant would give favorable scores to publishers paying for advertisement has been common knowledge for well over two decades and is the reason why games journalism was regarded as a joke since far before #GamerGate. You can even tell historically simply from looking at these threads, the most often used argument against #GamerGate so far has been "games journalism was always worthless, why do you care now?"

Some of them are a bit... hyperbolic. One review I read said that the theatres showing the movie should install seatbelts for this movie. -

Keep in mind that the Rotten Tomatoes system is not a grade rather a reflection of how many critics were positive about the movie. If all of them say "it was stupid but it was super fun" it's going to get a 100% score. For reference, the Paddington bear movie got 98% last month. -
What's on the idiot box Part 4 (or something)
Blarghagh replied to LadyCrimson's topic in Way Off-Topic
So they do want us to actually watch this show, right? Considering I've seen about an entire season after watching that. -
1) It is unreasonable for a game the size and scope of GTA. 2) Why? Judge your own actions. Why do you need the author to tell you right from wrong? Why do you need the virtual world to be policed? I am loving GTAV but they should just remove hookers completely from the game, it will have a negligible impact on the overall game play but reduce the controversy Yes, because this very corner of the internet didn't just explode for a few days simply because of the removal of a poem from a niche game.

Well, since Winter Soldier it's been a pretty low budget operation. -

They're not scared of it? They've had it for decades, it hasn't done anything and it was thought to be secure. Only Mack was described as being afraid of it, by nature of him being afraid of alien artifacts by default. -
If I remember correctly, Mad Max usually landed straight in other peoples problems and then circumstances forced him to be the hero, correct? The two sequels, anyway. I honestly cannot recall much about the first.
-
I don't know about that, but if he is it seems to have worked out for the better judging by the 98% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Mad Max was always the most boring thing about Mad Max.

Actually, how awesome would it be if GTA implanted something reactive, like the Shadows of Mordor nemesis system? You kill mob boss, mob puts out reward and you get a bunch of bounty hunters on your tail. You kill random woman, her badass commando son comes to take it out on you.

I think I liked this finale better than I liked Age of Ultron. -
The problem isn't that they're yummie, the problem is that they're cheap. Look at where we live. A healthy sandwich will be upwards of 4 euros compared to 1.50 for a giant bag of fries.

So what about a game like Hatred ? Where the developers say they created it because they are tired of everyone being politically correct but in fact the game is just about gratuitous violence and certain people will buy the game just because large sectors of society are appalled by it and criticize it? Are you guys fine with this type of game ? Yes, if that is the kind of game they want to make. This is how freedom of expression works. They're perfectly fine to express their frustration and we're all completely free to ignore it, hate it, or ridicule it. I've seen films that are far worse and somehow that's fine?
-
I don't even have a problem with her doing that. I have a problem with media and game developers seemingly ignoring that to promote the message and prevent backlash.
-
How could you impose that disadvantage upon all the other children like that, you monster?
-
I'm fine with games being designed to do that as long as it is the creator who wants to make that game. Free speech goes both ways, which is something that goes forgotten in a lot of these discussions.

KOTOR3? Possible? Likely! (Thoughts and Opinions)
Blarghagh replied to TheExile's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The KotOR franchise (even The Old Republic, which is still active) is now considered "Star Wars Legends", which means it's not official canon. Disney said they would only make official canon projects from now on. The last thing from the entire KoTOR continuity that still exists is The Old Republic, and that ends when it ends. It's pretty surely not going to happen. Even if it was, though, it wouldn't be what we wanted because The Old Republic messed up the KotOR story. What I am hoping instead is that Obsidian gets to make a new Star Wars game. -
To be fair, it's not like criticism of Anita Sarkeesian started with #GamerGate. She didn't start being controversial then, she was always a controversial figure and was repeatedly accused of being a con artist even before her Tropes vs Video Games video series kickstarter. She just wasn't on the radar of the gaming community before that, which blew her into the mainstream (interesting by itself, she was a fringe figure before video games made her mainstream). People dismissing her won't go away. I try to dismiss based on the things she says rather than herself, because she's made the occassional good point. The other half of Feminist Frequency, on the other hand, has written so much nonsense that I've developed an automatic knee-jerk reaction. If McIntosh would post that murder is bad, I'm sure my brain is already instinctively trained to disagree. He has that effect on people - I'm sure he changes more minds against him than for him.

Wow, this got derailed fast. Locked. -
Oh man, best YouTube show ever. I'm STILL quoting Nappa all the time. It's only worth watching for Dragonball fans, but boy is it added value.

My favorite subtitle text description ever is still [crying in spanish]. You only get that patronising bull when you put on american closed captions though. At least, I've never seen a dutch subtitle set translate anything that way.
-
As someone who grew up with subtitles I don't understand when native English speakers get so upset with them. They don't even register for me anymore. I read them on a subconscious level. In fact, I think the fact that everything is being dubbed in dutch these days is the reason all the kids in the next generation can't speak English for beans - I certainly learned it from english language cartoons.

Jack Nicholson plays the same character so often you kinda forget he's actually really good. Rewatched Chinatown last week, so good.
