I didn't say it couldn't change. Right now, however, it's just the way it is and it's been steadily getting worse over the last ten years. It's going to take a major paradigm shift to change that and I don't see that happening any time soon. Certainly not within the next ten years.

Bumpity bump sat on a stump I heard through the grapevine that a modding forum might be popping up pretty soon if nothing bad happens. But with the launch of White March, it's a little busy and a lot of threads may end up sliding past the age cutoff. If there are threads that you guys consider essential to the new board, it'd be really helpful in speeding up the process if you could post links to them here.

I know, right? GG tracks down a perpetrator for people who hate their guts, because it's the right thing to do. Note how nobody on the other side even said anything about the bomb threats against the GamerGate meeting in New York or the SPJ Airplay panel were even bad. It's true. I'm just tired that the so called conversation around harassment is empty bs that has nothing to do with reality. The sad truth is that anonymous harassment is a truth of the digital world and all attempts to stop it have been mostly pointless. The only way to combat it is to remove anonymity but then you'll still have non-anonymous cyber-bullying which will prevent everyone who has something to come to terms with such as closeted homosexuality or mental illness (not a comparison, mind you) to seek anonymous help online, which is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. I'm not willing to trade away a safe place for all those people to get rid of people's anonymous ****posting.

No, I'm not saying they were effective. I'm just saying they're the only ones who did anything.

^ Pretending that even a single person who complained about GamerGate actually got off their butts and "fought" harassment. At least GamerGate took action and organized boycotts and such, so yeah, apparently that issue IS more important. Social media was crying over harassment and the only people who actually took action? GamerGate harassment patrol! That should be their slogan: GamerGate, combating harassment because you're too lazy!

I am a figment of your imagination. I'm reading Story Engineering by Larry Brooks. Informative and interesting, not as wishy washy as books on writing generally are. Certainly a step up from Stephen King's "On Writing" where his advice boils down to "a good story will come to you while you write, also don't use adverbs".

I feel that the correct point to give up on these discussions is when they start discussing the person rather than the topic at hand (not that I consistently follow said guideline myself, as I'm not innocent of ad hominem). That guy started out not discussing the technical advantages or disadvantages of PC that the topic was about, but directly started about "PC users that write long threads" (i.e. a turnaround way to say you). At that point he's already proven to be conversational garbage and should not be bothered with.

Welcome to another round of the thread that is all about you(r activities this day)! I'm taking a sick day because my stomach is being a jerk to me. That's pretty much it for today.

Continued from here: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/80513-journalism-and-bias-in-the-gaming-industry/page-29 Same ol' stock description starting every thread here: For the uninitiated: The 'Gamergate' controversy was sparked in early 2013, as the release of Zoe Quinn's "Depression Quest" was criticized from gamers who believed that the game had received a suspicious amount of attention in relation to it's quality and scope. Eron Gjoni (Zoe's ex boyfriend) wrote a blogpost accusing Quinn of having had an affair with Kotaku journalist Grayson, prompting the critics to conclude that the attention and success of "Depression Quest" was due in part to unfair bias and nepotism in the industry. Several articles from both sides of the issue has highlighted inconsistencies in the stories of both Grayson, Quinn and Eron as well as the many other examples that have followed. Gamergate is wideley seen in the public, as a culture war over the diversification of gaming, artistic recognition and social criticism of video games and the gamer social identity. For the posters in this thread: Many bloggers and populists have tried to steer the discussion into areas they feel are the underlying issue - ranging from simple bias, to widespread misogny or misandry. I would however prefer that we keep this discussion as objective and clean as possible and so I will be keeping an a extra close eye on this thread. This certainly does not mean that you may not discuss any issue you feel, but rather that you should be thoughtful of how you discuss it with those you disagree with. Especially in regards to these three guidelines: Discrimination: Obsidian has a zero-tolerance policy with regard to racial, ethnic, gender, religious, disablement, and/or sexually discriminating remarks. Harassment: We ask that the users of this board treat one another with respect, even when opinions differ. Personal attacks that are intended to cause unwanted attention, embarrassment, or harm will not be tolerated. In addition, Obsidian does not tolerate disrespectful and/or slanderous posts about its competitors, developers and publishers. Such posts will be subject to editing or deleting, with its posters censured or banned. Objectionable Content: The use of abusive, vulgar or profane language, even if hidden through the use of symbols or other characters is not tolerated. Intentionally posting workarounds to our language filters are prohibited. Posts may be edited or deleted at any time by the moderation team, and depending on the severity and frequency of said posts, the poster may be censured or banned. Any posts in violation of the Forum Guidelines will either be removed or modified and authors of such posts will receive warnings and/or have their content placed under moderated review. AS BEFORE, PLEASE CHECK YOUR IMAGES FOR PROFANITY. IF THE IMAGE CONTAINS UNCENSORED PROFANITY THAT THE BOARD WOULD NORMALLY CENSOR, WE WILL REMOVE YOUR ENTIRE POST.

I thought Dawn of Justice WAS Man of Steel 2. Up until now it's always been described as a follow-up.

Then again Bruce, how many people could you feed with the money you spend on your internet bill? -
While I have little sympathy for cheaters there's a bit of victim blaming in attacking them for being stupid when it's the website that told them it was discrete who didn't have enough security to stop hackers from accessing and releasing all their data.

I use Steam because I always used Steam and I have access to my entire library on it. If GOG had come first and I had my entire library on that it would be the place to go for me. Honestly I don't have problems with Steam? People keep telling me Steam is buggy and stuff, but I have never run into an issue.

Agreed. Considering all the "Support@Game-Company.com" in there, I'm sure people just signed up using other people's info to troll.

There are a lot of people. Looking purely objectively, more people need to die and less rhinos. It's of course a horrible thing to say and emotionally I don't want people to die, but it's the fact. Rhinos are going extinct and our descendants might never even be lucky enough to see them. That's also a very specific problem rather than "whoa, a lot of people live in poverty".

I actually DON'T like filtering my posts down. It's like I feel as though I can get my thought process across better if I write it as I want to write it. Filtering down is only something I might do if it's crystal clear I've blatantly repeated myself. I get it from both sides, it's just annoying latley cause like I'll be randomly roaming the internet, I'll discover fans of show X and fans of show Z debating about if show Z is ****, I'll comment and provide just a bit of input from how things look from my outsider perspective, and then someone's like "LOL OMG U WROTE SO MUCH, UR OBVIOUSLY BUTTHURT AND A HUGE SHOW Z FANBOY" and it's like well **** me how do I respond to that when clearly the person has just turned my post size into their personal shield so that they don't even have to engage in a discussion with me. Lame, understandable, but frustrating lately. I get it, I don't like it either but most people won't bother to read it and not writing walls of text saves a lot of time.

Dog Soldiers sure went out of its way to set up jokes. "There is no Spoon!"

Next time, just eat and smell a bunch of hot sauce. Wasabi works best. Your nose will run like a maniac for a couple of minutes and then clear up.
