  1. Sykora has lost a step or three. It will be interesting to see how he pans out with the Devils. His time in Edmonton wasn't much to write home about.

He looked solid in the pre-season. Had a pair of goals, skated well. I always forget that he's only (lol) 34. Which is old, but not ancient. I think he has a 20 goal season in him if he plays with one of Elias, Kovy, or Parise. We'll see though. I don't think he's in the opening night line up.

  2. Good riddance, I say. Not only the team, the entire league is better without that fool.

This. Also, for what it's worth VolokinzTM, Erik Christensen was the guy who claimed a spot over Avery apparently.

Oh, and Parise was named captain of the Devils. Good news is that almost definitely means he'll be signing a long term contract. Would have liked to see Elias get one more shot as captain but Parise is a great choice too, Kovy and Elias get the A's and Petr Sykora got a contract!

I think if Marty can have a slightly above average season (and by that I mean average for any goalie, not for Marty) we'll make a deep playoff run.

  3. It is now 0947 in the morning on a BEAUTIFUL cool autumn day. I just finished trimming the trees off my fence (my chainsaw and I declared a truce and decided to work together today). After a quick breakfast of iced tea and a strawberry & peanut butter sandwich I'm going to plant carrots and onions and hope we can hold off the frost long enough for them to come in. After that I'm taking my XM radio, the dogs, & a 12 pack of Rolling Rock down to Cold Creek and I'm going fishing. Whatever we catch goes in the pan tonight.

    that...sounds glorious.

  4. I've nothing against your hatred of the English. But I do deplore your condoning of such spectacularly selfish and asinine behaviour. This is the reason people are up in arms. No-one gives a toss about Man City. It's a loyalty thing. And loyalty is a universal theme.

Loyalty in football ? Good joke.

  5. I know I'm still not even a fraction asw sick as the real men on the forum. But you'll have to forgive me for feeling as bad I have felt in years. I haven't had any proper sleep in days.

take a lot of cough syrup. you'll pass the hell out and if you don't at least you'll be mildly high.

  6. "I just had a brief twinge of concern that Volourn hasn't been posting in awhile. Weird."

I don't need your fake concern spammed in the hockey thread. Let's talk hockey. Volourn is off topic in thisn thread. If you concerned about some punk you don't even know make a thread about it and leave the hockey thread about hcokey or at least sports related tangents. Thank you very much.

    lmfao

  7. I'm up to game 42 of my NHL season in NHL11. At this point, I think I'm going to hold off on NHL12 until either a price drop or until I'm done a couple of full seasons of NHL11. Whichever comes first.

New one is awesome. But get your money's worth of '11, it's a great game too.

  8. @ Krookie did he make use of any resources or did he have his own system?

He's been in the game long enough to know the right people I suppose, but really I saw him spending 8 hours a day sending out resumes, making calls, sending e-mails, ect.

  9. @gfted

    Ya o:)

=[ sorry bok. you aren't the only one tho...Dad got laid off about a year and a half ago. He's found work since and we're doing alright now. Just stay vigilant and don't fall into the "i'm never gonna get another job" mentality. my dad turned finding work into a full time job (LOL PUNS) and it paid off. good luck

  10. I guess I'm not knocking fraternities necessarily, but I AM knocking jock attitudes (and yes, the silly rituals and pecking order that go with them). They are unthoughtful, cater to the lowest common denominator, and hold people back.

I have never experienced a fraternity, but I am imagining them to be just worse forms of the jock colleges and jock structures in high school and university here.

So I'm glad you found something worthwhile in your fraternity, Hurlshot, but the good parts of what you're describing sound like any typical dorm/college experience at uni, while it sounds like you're glossing over the bad parts because you take them for granted. The traditional and ritual rubbish associated with jocks (and hence frats, based on popular media representation of them) is NOT required for that positive experience to occur and for many people taints it.

college in the US isn't like it is in the movies lol. some frats have all jocks, some have none. it seems like you're pretty ignorant on the subject to be honest so I don't see why you're claiming them to hold people back. actually, frats are a great way to network for post-college careers (I know plenty of kids who got their first job through a father of someone else in the frat, or a friend of a friend, ect.)

  11. accepted a bid to a fraternity last night. pledging starts tonight. I'm sure I'll laugh about it all later.

Get your ass ready for the gayest time in your life  Good luck!

Luckily their hazing process has 3 rules:

    1. no gay stuff

    2. no physical hazing

    3. no forced drugs

SO I SHOULD BE FINE RIGHT GUYS?

  12. The last spoof movie I really enjoyed was Hot Shots 2. After that everything was almost painful to watch.

Scary Movie 3 has some nice bits, though. David Zucker directed it, and George Carlin and Charlie Sheen were in it. Some of the scenes spoofing Signs were funny.

    Dude. Austin Powers?
