Gotta say. Medal of Honor has NOT aged well. NO iron sights, the vehicles are just blocks, very limited stealth, and it's, well, limited in firefights (similar to FEAR's ai issues where they couldn't have more than 6-8 operating at a time or it'd overload the computer).

I seriously doubt that, the Protheans, with resources spanning the ENTIRE galaxy, can only make a pair of prototype mass relay, The Conduit. Only a pair! a prototype pair, even. The Salarians, the so-called nerds of the galaxy, has used the relays for thousand years, and they haven't figured how it works, or else we would be seeing their prototype in game. The Asari, Turians, and Salarians combined can't figure it out either. Humans can't possibly know how it works after only 26 years using it :D, that's just too Mary Sue-y. Oh wait, this is Mass Effect. I was thinking about it in more of a path of least resistance. If you were presented with a car, you'd probably be able to figure out how to make it do what you want it. But you probably couldn't discuss a catalytic converter or the intricacies of an automatic transmission. Humanity figured out what sequence of events are needed to cause the mass effect, but were not gonna try digging into the relay itself just yet (goose that laid the golden egg). For all we know, there may be a requirement that for an Alliance ship to jump into the next relay, there has to be a couple going at it in the port cargo hold. Because that's what happened the first time the effect was triggered.

If there's one thing that humans are good at, it's reverse engineering. Once they saw the Mass Relay they'd probably be pretty quick to figure out How it works. I mean, IIRC the Reapers created the Mass Relay system because intelligent species take the "path of least Resistance" and the Relays are VERY easy to sort out. Which means that when they show up, they can flick off the relay system, and nobody has any other source of FTL travel.

Hell March has a decade behind it. The medal of Honor franchise theme has 15(?) years behind it. Xenogears was cult I admit... Has nobody mentioned One Winged Angel? That's penetrated beyond Games.

I've got exactly 1 friend on my friend list (and achievements needs to die horribly, what a waste of developer resources). I do like the patching part though, as some of those Paradox games gets patches fairly frequently and it would be a hassle constantly checking their forums for when what game got what update. I think your dad is a little unreasonable on his expectations overall. And the Wine thing sounds less like an actual complaint after he responded with that story, and morel like he's hunting for excuses. Similarly the "host should think of that before!" bs, is also a bit of an insult to you because A) he was asked to go, and said yes and B) You're also technically the host for that too. Let him come to you, but don't let him play up your wifes fault and downplay his own failures (which he seems to TOTALLY be doing). As painful as it might be, he still should understand that at least some of his actions are not acceptable, particularly if he chooses to continue to be social with your family beyond 3 day visits for the grandkids.

Freezing cold in Iowa, not so bad in Cali. Just getting insanely depressed because due to (from my position anyway) beauracratic snafus I am being kicked out of school for a semester. I am fighting it, but things aren't looking to good. Got one grade put in wrong and it should be a full letter grade higher. And I think something happened to one of my other grades that is right now an f on my transcript. It feels like the universe doesn't want me to have a future that doesn't hurt me every day due to stress.

Re: Dishonored. I think the issue is that it feels like they wanted to do so much, but ended up with a lack of something do it was trimmed down to a shadow of its former self. All of the background info is supplied in text interludes, there is basically no characterization of anyone except the princess, and the game jus does not seem to want to let the player be what they want from the pr (a blade wielding Demi-for of murder. Basically, take 2 parts hit an, one pArt assassins creed and one part bioshock, throw em in a blender and you have Dishonored. While sitting in the airport I picked up the AC:3 book. Which made me all that much sadder that ac3 fell apart. There was so much that could have been done to the story to make the game much more amazing and draw to in. Especially with Haytham, who could have just out and out been the protagonists and been used to explore both sides of the conflict
