alliance was better than XvT. Xwing vs tie fighter was just a series of missions that you could use that were designed for multiplayer, Alliance actually had mission objectives and new craft to toy around with. Also In alliance you get to fly the falcon down the Death star 2's throat.

the way you get each characters "extra" quest (bastilas mother, Carths son, missions brother, canderous' death match) is by having them in the team after a certain point a in convorsation and then just getting on and off of your ship and walking to the first zone transition (you may have to do this a few times) Jolee's wife is Alora. and Juhani on Korribon is... interesting when you try to get into the academy. just gointg to throw this out there but, You have to convince dustil that the sith are actually bad... Try to point it out to him and then tell him you'll go find proof. then theres a datapad that says that the person he joined up with was killed so that she wouldn't hold dustil back.
